I know very little about 4G tbh. What are the advantages?

    Thanks again.

    Advantage: Faster internet speeds
Disadvantages: Uses more battery, phone will be more expensive.

That's about it. It's up to you what's more important. You can probably force the phone to just use 3g if your battery is low, but I have no idea.

Looks like there is some differences too:
    http://www.toptechblog.org/difference-between-i9300-i9305/

    1gb v 2gb ram
    No Fm radio in i9305
some people say the i9300 runs the dual core Snapdragon but that might be just in America and the info is old...

Ah you are quite right, my apologies. And you are right, the European S3 has an Exynos processor.

Thanks for your help. Might go with the 4G version. Waiting for a response from Vodafone to confirm they stock the i9305.

Kinda wanted the FM radio :/

If you can find a good deal with a lot of data use something like Tunein Radio, it will have all the usual Irish stations too.

Ah cool. Don't most buses and trains have wifi these days anyway. Can always stream that way.

Just bumping this thread again to ask about CASES for the S3. Anyone know where to get good quality ones?

    Amazon list these:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00830SBWI/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=electronics
but some seem pretty dodgy according to the 1-star reviews and the customer images.

I was shopping round for a case like that last week. What I found was that the cover didn't close properly over the front of the phone, and it tended to pop open a little bit. The guy in the shop said it would settle down after a while, and that when its in your pocket it will stay closed. I wasn't happy with that.

So I got one of these, in a nice green colour:
    http://www.fonez.ie/samsung-galaxy-s3-leather-cover.html

The front closes nicely over the phone and its a very slim fit. It adds a few mm overall to the width of the phone, so if you're using a universal mount in your car you will be fine. If you have an S3 specific mount, it might not fit.

Nice. Do you have an image of your green cover? Kinda want something with a bit of colour myself.

Its kind of a turquoise green, can't upload a pic right now. I bought it in a shop in Galway, they had a good range of colours. Haven't seen anything other than black online.

    Just got my S3.

Is there any plan to follow when doing my first charge? I left it off and charged it fully after taking it out of the box. Should I then use it till it shuts off and recharge fully again? Lotsa contradictory stuff on the net about discharging fully or not.

It makes a very minor difference with modern packs, the memory effect isnt a big deal any more. Best practice is to go 80-20-80-20... but realistically thats not going to last you so I go 100-20-100....

Don't be without FM, it is amazing how often you will find it useful....

get Spirit FM, free from XDA, latest:

App download link, from XDA, not dodgy....

    http://bit.ly/14P9VqP

    It should be compatible.....

    ****EDIT...

sorry, checked that, it appears not compatible with GT-I9305...no FM hardware...

looks like the I9300 is the last of the line with FM support....

    sorry :(

So, getting rather frustrated with my GS3. In the last month the user experience has started to dive bomb. Responsiveness is poor, flipboard is barely useable, screenshots get stuck saving, GPS locks are slow and inaccurate. WTF happened. Also, Im having huge problems with 3G. The phone will have perfect coverage, an app will need some content but it wont pull it, no matter how much I refresh. Sometimes opening the browser gets things going again but then others it requires a reboot. Like the YT wheel is spinning but the UP/DOWN arrows are off, in a place I know has great coverage. It doesnt seem like an ISP issue, but I cant rule that out.

So I'm wondering what the hell caused this. Was it that FW update, or the lack of TRIM support right now allowing NAND to clog. Watchdog not really spotting any rogue apps? Going to have a scrounge around on XDA but I dont have a huge amount of time for Android tricking right now with work and prep for college. Really need her to just run right for now. Any suggestions?

    SDS issue?

Send it back under warranty repair.

Q - I've the ankel 4400 extended battery; anyone recommend a car holder for the gs3 that will hold the bigger size?

I am having issues with making calls on my S3. It doesn't happen all the time. I call someone and they can't hear me. I hand up and the call hangs for a while. If person tries to call me back, the phone goes straight to voice mail. I try calling again and nothing happens, usually takes another attempt to get through. Can happen a few times in one day, and then not again for a couple of days.

    Anyone else experience this issue?

Does anyone know somewhere in dublin/Wicklow that's decent where I can get my screen repaired? Managed to crack it a while ago.

€130 through work, don't think it's much more than that for going direct

Are you running a custom ROM or stock?

I flashed a rom and now can't connect to my network which is 3...

I was reading online my modem might be wrong...?

Was that a rom for the S3?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,679 ✭✭✭hidinginthebush

Did you wipe the /system before flashing? I've had iffy problems before that cleared up after that. AFAIK the factory reset doesn't do this.

Fwiw I use sentinel ROM. Its 4.3, great battery life and no bugs that I've found. Works fine for an s3 on 3.

Make sure your ROM manager is up to date and can flash 4.3 first!! The latest update of clockwork mod can handle it.

It seems to say yours is an s4 ROM?

Yeah I wiped the system before installing the new rom. the rom I installed is for the S3 it just adds a few features and makes the menus etc look like the S4. I might just go back to stock and try it again. Custom roms are such a pain in the arse. Something always ends up not working etc...

Did you do a backup before flashing? Hopefully you did and its easy enough to get it working again. I'd say give the sentinelrom a whirl. Very nice to use. Not Samsung based tho if that's what you're looking for.

Cyanogen based ROMs are usually pretty rock solid.

Anybody have issues with charging? I have my phone 4months and its starting to act up, no matter how many different chargers I use its so slow to charge. Last night it went from 1% to 35% this morning. Any suggestions before I bring it back to 3?

You could try re calibrate the battery. That might help.

Are you using a USB cable for charging? If so change it.
