Being a Galway fan is very different from being a Mayo fan.

The majority of Mayo fans would just want to see them win at this stage. Just win. If a weaker Donegal makes for better chances of winning then all the better.

We've come up against enough of the best teams/players over the years and it'd be great if there was an All-Ireland to show for it. But there isn't. So at this stage, any win will do.

You haven't been watching the hurling so.

Ah, indeed. I forgot about that.

I stand by what I said though, that I'd rather the team play against a weakened opposition than a full strength opposition.

And I'm not taking pleasure in the fact that Donegal players are injured either. If they don't have their best players at full fitness, I'll take that. Just as how they'd take the fact that Moran was out of the final last year.

I don't think anyone is that much of a di*k to enjoy injuries to the opposition. That's a step too far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,736 ✭✭✭Fowler87

What is that supposed to mean ?
What if they are incapable of playing as is the case with a few Donegal and Mayo players ?

Sorry badly worded but obvious if they are injured they can't play but would prefer Mayo best available 15 to play Donegal best available 15 like in any game Mayo play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,413 ✭✭✭naughto

why would any one want the opposition to be at full strength that makes no sence.i do not care if we play sh1te on sunday as long as we win.Id be more than happy to see the donegal team come out on crutches if it ment we where to win on sunday.
do u think donegal gave a flying f1uck that we where missing andy moran in the all ireland i bet they where delighted it makes there job easier,as ors will be with out some of there key players.

    .

I'm a Mayo fan, and I love to see my team doing well, but will support them in both bad and good times. Yet, the statement above is a step too far. In no way does this reflect a true GAA fan. Quite frankly, it's a disgusting opinion to have, and one which in no way reflects the majority of Mayo/GAA supporters.

a jesus will you relax i am sure every body on here knew what i ment.mayo do not care if donegal are 100% fit and and donegal do care if mayo are 100%
i bet both sides will be glad if the other has injurys so there not at there best

He's the worst ref in the country IMO.

Yeah McHugh is Donegal's MVP by a distance for me as well.

McFadden for me. Don't let him play and you stop donegal.

Its by no means a disgusting opinion to have. I hope there are more injuries and arguments galore in the donegal camp between now and sunday. Anything that facilitates a Green and red win pleases me, any supporter that says otherwise is lying or being too nobel for the sake of it.

+1. We need our tightest defender on that guy, and we need him to play well.

Hoping that we will start with:

    1. Hennelly
    2. Cunniffe
    3. Cafferkey
    4. Higgins
    5. Keegan
    6. Vaughan
    7. Boyle

I'd like to see Cafferkey on Murphy, Higgins on McFadden and Cunniffe on McBrearty

I would say it will lineout:
    Cunniffe - McFadden
    Cafferkey - Murphy
    Higgins - McBrearty
Lee Keegan is good in the air and is probably more suited to McBrearty. McBrearty has made some great fetches so far in championship.
If Donegal get some early success off route one ball that will be a major psychological boost for them and a hammer blow to our backs confidence.

Will Murphy be wearing that steel plated armour he's wrapped around his mid section in that picture :)

Anyone got an opinion of how this one may pan out ?

Donegal have not had the same flair as they had last year, they are playing more like 2011 than 2012.
This could be due to a number of factors.
    1. Laceys absence
    2. The fact that teams like Down, Monaghan and Laois play a very defensive style and thus thwart Donegal
    3. Lack of intensity after an All Ireland win, wish is common and understandable.

It's probably a mix of all three

On the other hand Mayo have played as most expected them to, winning Connaught without much fuss.

Donegal are coming into the game missing two of their big play makers Lacey (if he does play he will not be up to his 2011 level) and McHugh, that's obviously a plus for Mayo
But Mayo do not play the same blanket defence as Down, Monaghan and Laois
Rather than putting bodies behind the ball they seem to hunt in smaller packs and harass the ball carriers forcing turnovers.

How will Donegal setup defensively, Mayo have a problem breaking down tough defences, as seen in league games v Down and Kildare.

I really think that this game will be close, but I still believe what I have been saying for months, that is that Donegal will struggle to bring the same intensity as they did last year (this has been seen already) and that coupled with their injuries and the fact that Mayo are coming into this game fresher will mean that Mayo will shade it.

I tend to agree with Inchicore too in that Id prefer Mayo to face a full strength Donegal (but still have no problems if they're missing couple big players!) as I know this Mayo team is capable either way of beating this Donegal side. Plus the fact at this stage of the competition, the best players for each county need to play

I'd prefer a full strength Mayo team if we had to play a Full Donegal team. As it stands, we are far from full strength.
I see no reason right now for people to be getting upset because the playing field is a little more level in terms of injuries, so to see that a few of Donegal's key players may not be fully fit is fine by me.

In case we need reminding, the following are the list of current players not available through injury
    Clarke
    O'Malley
    Michael Conroy

The following are arguably not at their peak through injury, or in a position to start or play a full game:
    Andy Moran
    Alan Dillon
    Cillian O'Connor
    Donal Vaughan
    Barry Moran
    Cathal Freeman
    Jason Doherty
    Chris Barret

    Probably more.

So yeah, I wouldn't be feeling a whole lot of sympathy for Donegal and their injury list, we have enough problems of our own going into this game.

Here's a new Mayo supporter's song to warm you up for the weekend. Two Mayo bands (Flat Out and Gorilla Radio) give their all in support of the 2013 campaign for Sam.

I am a Galway fan hoping Mayo do it this year. I think they will do it too!
