Yes, I can take a while with pictures. :p

I took her for a test drive but nothing else. As said, won't have it 'till Friday when I bring down the money. Ad withdrawn and all, so it's as good as sold.

An it's true what they say, they are tail happy little things. :pac:

It needs a few jobs done but it's unreal for a 23 year old car, the paint looks brand new and the roof (original) is a little freyed but solid, no leaks or rips, no discouloration. Sweet little things. :D

Probably wont put it on th road 'till October. Get everything the way I want it and get my 1 year NCB and it'll be ready to go.

    I also want a holiday, so that's first. :p

Well it's got about 30bhp on the Almera and it's lighter too. To me, it feels quick. :D
I do intend on whacking a turbo on but that's way down the line.

Also no power steering, I'll have to get use to that.

Staying clear of View Point for a while. :pac:
Yeah, I think they used a 1.8 on MCM but it's the same idea, TD04 it and have fun. :D
Saying that though, there's not much difference between early the 1.6 and later 1.8.
I'll need a 1.8 diff before I turbo it though... And brakes, exhaust, cool overs, wheels. Quite a bit to do. :p

Security is taken care of with a Clifford alarm, needs a bit of attention though so I'll have that sorted fairly quickly and I'll save for a hard top too. Kill switch is a good shout, I'll get onto that too!

Lots to do, long term project. :)

I know a lot of people are into modifying cars but I think it would be a shame to modify an MX5 that has stayed so standard for so long. A bit like the Levin it's nearly impossible to fine an original example and by keeping it original it'll be much more unique than a modified one. I love to see cars kept in their factory condition faults and all. And AFAIK they are a superb car in standard form anyway.
    Just my POV

+2 on all this, I've mods on my car, I've mentioned them to people and the reply is always " I wouldn't have seen that only you said it" one even said "modding, you're doing it right"

Also as a famous architect once said "less is more" ;)

If I had a euro for every time I heard that quote in mine, I'd be able to afford a moderately new car

As others have said well wear cian.

I'd agree with everyone's sentiment, keep it standard as much as possible.

But that's me, it's your car so go as mental as you like.
Glad you found a decent one anyway.
    Enjoy!!

Was speaking to Mondello there a short time ago- no training days for August planned as of yet. They said to give them a shout back near the end of the month and they might have something.

I have to be honest, lads. Staying standard is not the plan.
It's not like a Glanza or Levin where standard ones are hard to find, every second hairdresser has a standard MX5. :p

It will be low and wide, probably look at a front lip for it (DC2 lips fit nicely!), I want a roll bar in it seeing as it will more than likely see a track and right now, all that's stopping my head from hitting the ground is a soft top!
There's a rip in the passenger seat so new sears are a thought. Standard leather or maybe something from Recaro.
Nothing is out of the question yet. :pac:

    Now the real spending starts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,729 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

    Not for a while, really.
I've promised herself we'd go away for a week in October so after that it's all systems go!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

So you did buy! Excellent

For me, it depends on the vehicle what style I'd do it up. However my E34 is staying as standard as possible, it was very well kept and most of he bits with it. Only visual difference is the numberplate backing, reflector. Quite rare to find ;)

On another note, I'm starting to lose faith in a lot of things recently. I must get my head examined again..... :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,729 ✭✭✭✭CianRyan

I agree about the E34, that's just not a car to modify, most BM's shouldn't have more than engine work and wheels etc. done IMO. Just doesn't suit them.

Testament to this is lurking around my area, he has vents, holes, bits of rubbish stuck onto it and it looks horrific. It's an E46 and I have yet to see it stationery so I can get a pic.
