You've caught the race track bug OSI.

Yep, seriously considering that as an option instead. Thinking MX5 for some track fun. Or Fiesta for some race fun. Both would probably cost the same to get and prepare.

Just have to decide how much I can spare, and how often it's likely to be used.

Don't you need a dual axle trailer and consequently a 4x4 to tow a motor?

If the gross weight of the trailer can old it, no.

    Something like this.

And you don't actually need a 4x4 to draw a double axle trailer. It's an absolute myth. Once your GVW fits in with your licence class, your okay.

Speaking of towing. Came across this nut in Kilcock the other day. Previous to this the load had fallen off at the summerhill road roundabout so it wasn't exactly stable. Overtook him and he was on the phone too. Madness.

    Break out a CT177 to carry a decent load, 750kg on it's own :)
    ct177.jpg

And westwood charge through the nose for trailers ;)

They're good though! Should find a second hand one cheap enough if you look hard.

I can vouch for this, a bog standard transporter costs about 2000

Don't even get me started on the used ones

The Rolls Royce of car transporters :) I'd be weary on buying one private, they tend to go walkies if not secured properly  when we got the plant trailer here we didn't get a key for the hitch, I had it smashed off in about 10 seconds and was able to lock/unlock with a screwdriver

Didn't get it from Westwood either ;)

It's highly unlikely you'd get a car + transporter + drawing car under a normal B license though. You'd need a trailer license.

That's why I said once the GVW fits your licence class. Yes, most probably need a car licence unless you can get away with a light trailer and the train weight comes under 3.5t.

    Hey guys, how's it going?

Haven't been here properly in ages, busy with a new job. But alas, I still have to sell the GTI.

I will take a very low price for a quick sale. So if anyone's interested or knows anybody looking for a mk5 GTI with dsg, let me know in pm.

    Cheers :)

Replacing the oil on the 156 at the moment.

Trying to get the sump plug back in and it's only going in by hand 3 or 4 threads. It came out pretty smoothly although it was torqued reasonably hard.

These came out of the sump..

I'm not sure if these are stripped from the sump or if someone previously used a helicoil or something. Should I just try to screw it up with the wrench and hope for the best?

Presume it's an alu sump in the 156? Can you visibly get under it to check the sump threads?

Until you figure what's what, try not to torque anything up! If it is stripped a helicoil will do the job to fix it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

Yes I believe it's an alu sump and a steel bolt. I stuck my finger up and there is definitely a chunk of thread missing. Like I rub around the threads inside and there is a gap that extends almost the length of the threads but there is thread the rest of the way around. I guess I wouldn't do any further harm to just try and torque it up? Then try and get a helicoil if that fails?

Edit: I managed to get it up. There was another bit of broken thread stuck in the bolt and it went up okay after I removed that. It's not tightening 100% though (still a bit loose) so I'll just hope for the best.

Throw some PTFE tape on it. Might help it hold until you can get it properly fixed.

Quick questions lad. Have my old car parked in a visitors spot in my apartment block. Selling it soon but the tax is up since end of june. Could the annoying neighbours report it to the guards for being parked in public with no tax?

They could but once it's private AGS can do little to nothing about it. Your management co might clamp it though. ;)

I never realised how sh!t my tyres were until this evening. Pulled out on to a busy main road accelerating reasonably hard but not full throttle either. And the tyres just kept spinning until I eased off. The road was bone dry proper main road no real loose chippings. Its a 90bhp focus I wouldn't have thought putting down the little power would be a problem of course traction control would help if it had it. I wIll never touch winda tyres again absolute joke although I wouldn't of bought them in the first place. When I bought the car the guy should me the receipt for 350 euro from two days previous for four of these tyres he was seriously robbed paying that for them. With everything thats happened I never got a minute to change them too busy spending money on everything else.

I just need to decide whether to get hankook ventus prime or Bridgestone turanzas had both on the astra and both were good although the turanzas were better. Ill have to see what they cost probably around 85 a corner.
