celtic tiger days meant more and more people were buying them, mostly low spec though.

these cars are then sold and resold and so on until they are over 15 years old and selling for a few hundred and in bits and anyone is driving them

BMWs are nice just too many rustbuckets and low spec ones on the roads here

    Well that explains it!

I think bmws are nice cars I find them a bit plain inside when they don't have the Idrive my aunty has a 08 318d and its a lovely car. My mother loves them and I'd say her next car will be some sort of a 3 series. My parents did attempt to buy a new 5 series 520d in 07 but they were rediculous money. We went to our local BMW garage the salesman was so stuck up. He offered us 7k less for our vectra than every other garage. As he said it was only an Opel.

Then my dad trying to stay calm said what would you do for a straight cash deal. Can't remember the exact figure but the car was around 50,450 euro the salesman said he would take no less than 50k my dad completly lost it. And the idiot salesman lost the sale of a car as they would have bought it If he had done any kind of a reasonable deal. I can't understand this stuck up mantality BMW car salesmen have (not all just some) ultimately they are a car salesmen which I don't have a problem with but they don't need to be all high and mighty about it.

The new gen Mercedes with the big aggressive face do look well.

The right spec'd bmw can look savage too.
It is a pity that there has to be more 3 series and 5 series then mondeos out there. Very few with the correct wheels and more importantly engine.

But lately I've seen the same with jag xf's spec'd paddy style tiny wheels.

Although there is something about the over the top styling of the new xj's.

Well that's just plainly wrong. Sure, the paddy spec 316d/520d is not always the most innovative on steel wheels etc. But I do think that, even the most anti-bmw people can't deny the e39 is a timelessly beautiful car. The e60 in the right spec is not too far behind. In terms of sheer aggressive lines the e60 m5 and the f10 m5 are two of my all time favorite car designs. I dont think they will ever replicate the e39 but I think in terms of the bland mass produced cars out there these days the bmws are in the top three for sheer beauty in style and design.

Seriously - I can usually see both sides of an argument but I really can't see how they are behind in styling. I am dumbfounded.

I would but I aint subscribing hehe. Plus it would need to incorporate turbo diesel in there somewhere :P

IMO the E39 is a fine looking car, but certainly not a timeless beauty :P

Now I'm afraid to tell you that I don;t like the E60, I think it is just too fussy, there is too many lines and shapes. It has no elegance about it.

And the F10 looks like this

A neighbour that I done a good few favors for offered to sell me a e39 520i m sport with just over 200k miles on it for €200 about a year ago car was in bad nick of the road a few months. It's still parked up now.

The E60 in my opinion is one of the worst looking BMW's from the front and rear any how those lights .

controversially i like the look of the E60's once they are spec'd up a little. most of the irish yokes on 15's/16's in silver look ****e. nice dark colour and a decent size wheel and they are a real looker. not mega exclusive but much more handsome than the e-class merc.

I'd take there hand and all.

Bumpers alone will make €200 each if you break it.

Actually if you can get me pics I'd be interested? ;)

I need to rant, some gobsheen in a corsa for the 2nd time in 4 days parked right up against my drivers door and has scratched my mirror this time. I dont know how they got out of their car as they had parked between 2 cars but not in an actual space its just lines between the spaces. I was so close to writing them a nice letter and telling them to go to specsavers as they obviously cant see that they didnt park in a space. I've taken the reg of the car and if i find them parked beside me ever again i'm seriously gonna lose the plot.

Corsa you say? I'm on the hunt for a cheap one, pm the location and I'll make a chancy offer. Then I'll gift you a pickaxe for the day and the car. :)

I am not a fan of BMW styling and like others felt they all looked the same, but with age an appreciation for some has formed. The E34 and the 840ci look great for sure. But since I was a little kid for what ever reason, the front grill always looked far too old fashioned and reminded me of this kind of look.

It was a joint idea..... The fun one can have smashing a miserable sh*tbag of a corsa to pieces is unreal, listening to it's weedy screechbag of an engine fight seizure, reshaping the front of it with a tractor, dismembering it to pieces with a saw, smashing the interior with all sorts of pikey tools, quite therapeutic :D

I'm well aware it'll probably be the least liked car to ever be posted in here, but I love my Rav4:

    C90C96AC46A847BBA84913623C520333-0000333410-0003311756-01015L-953BC0A560AB480499509228A0B56943.jpg

Regarding BMWs: as a person with little knowledge or interest in cars, I did always think BMW were a more elitist/rarer type of car, but over the last couple of years I've noticed them becoming more and more common.

That said, it could be geographic (I'm in Drogheda): but a lot of them are older cars that look a little worn at this stage (ie; I wouldn't be impressed by them, which is what I think anyone who buys a BMW is generally attempting to do?).

Mercedes seem to be the new 'high end' brand of car (not that they ever weren't, but BMW seems much more accessible at the moment). Probably doesn't help much that a lot of BMWs look very similar. I know what an Avensis and a Corolla look like, and a Mondeo and a Focus, but I don't know the different types of BMW saloon cars for the most part. Could be just me not having enough interest, though. :o

I've pictured you doing this, in a field, with classical music playing in the background :pac:

    That does sound relaxing!

I got asked to "clean" a friends mothers jeep (who is in very high places ;) ) on the 8th of next month for something in the rds, so hopefully I do a good enough job! I'll have all kinds of fancy cars in my drive and not one of them mine :(

I am definitely a BMW fan, but I don't like what driving these machines does to some people. Turns them into assholes.

The e39 as a package between the driving experience and the looks is a timeless classic. Again, that's IMO. Opinions are like assholes, we all have different ones

Which leads me nicely to the e60. I love them. I think the styling ( for m sport models only) is beautiful. But they always were a polarizing car.,

    BMW fanboi represent :p

E60 MSport aged much nicer than the E39 IMO. Not too gone on the F10 just yet, maybe in time...

    Got to be representin' dawg!

Interesting, I prefer the e39 in m trim to the e60 in m trim.

I usually hate them for the first year odd of production then love them. That was how it was for the e60 and also for the f10. I think the boggo spec f10 isnt so pretty but I saw a 535d f10 the other day in m trim and she was gorgeous. The m5 I have only seen in photos but it looks stunning too.
    Imo of course

Athlone to Dublin to Athlone to Galway to Dublin to Galway, to the burren to Cork, to Galway to Dublin to Galway to Athlone sure does mount up the number of dead on my front bumper.

    IMAG0448.jpg

Super cleaning session planned tomorrow if I can find some shade to do it in.

Sweeping statements from someone with no interest in cars much?
Just maybe, they make good cars at a good price and your attempts at projecting snobishness on them is simply something you do?
, but I don't know the different types of BMW saloon cars for the most part. Could be just me not having enough interest, though. :o
It couldnt be easier as they start with the largest and filter whatever is the "current look" downwards. You can tell them apart by size:

    7 Series = biggest
    5 series = middle
    3 series = smallest

The 3 and 5 come in estates and "GT" forms and the 7 doesnt. All BMW X cars (X1/3/5/6) are SUVs. The hatchback is the 1 series (also a tiny coupe version).

Its a clinically simply lineup structure, much like Audi, Merc and Lexus.

Ah that's nothing compared to how mine was before I washed it last week. I had that many flies on my driver side wing mirror :pac:

On a side note... you must only be out the road from me in Athlone. Where abouts?
