I got my One from Carphone Warehouse on meteor prepay. They told me it was locked to meteor but I figured it wouldn't be. No phone I've ever bought from Carphone Warehouse has ever been locked. So I put a 3 SIM into it and low and behold it worked fine.

Just programmed a remote manually on the tv app which got me wondering if it is possible to use the infra red as a receiver? I have photos on an old sagem that I would love to be able to get off

I was wondering the same thing about using infared to unlock cars...

    Cars don't use infrared.

No, sim locking is not related to the htc__001 or whatever id that the updates roll out to.

It's out for the y13 cid and a couple more non carrier cids. The 001 one is reportedly the last one due. See the thread on xda.

For general browsing it should not be getting that hot!

However, if you are streaming HD porn it can turn into a substitute hot water bottle.

Have the GE editions shipped? Can we expect an official as you can get ROM?

They used to! Late 80's to mid-90's many did.

Nowadays, the remote keyless entry uses radio, not infra-red, but you're right, up until relatively recently, it was infra-red.

Would anyone be able to tell me what the best/cheapest way of getting a HTC One is? Open to signing on to a new contract etc.

    Thanks!

I've no idea myself, but I've seen the one advertised for free, so I guess that's the cheapest.
As you can see, providing more information on your usage requirements will have more bearing on the actual cost.

Yeah sorry, I'd like to spend in and around €30/month as an average for 18 months. Then the lower the upfront price the better.

Most manufacturers made the switch around 2000-2001. I don't know how old you are but to me that is relatively recently.

My '96 Volvo has a radio remote. I know Volvo are pretty pioneering on the safety front, but electronics? Not really.

My dad always fitted aftermarket alarms to his cars, because hardly any manufacturers fitted them back then. If any of them were IR, we're going right back to the eighties.

Who was fitting IR alarms in the nineties, Proton? ;-)

    Exactly!

nonsense, there was no one fitting IR alarms in 1998 let alone 2001

Maybe I am getting old but Im no longer interested in arguing over minor things on the internet with people who want to be right.

Your car had radio keyless entry in 1996 and therefore all cars had it in 1999?. Your logic is undeniable, I concede the point.

Now lets get back to talking about the HTC One.

No, you're incapable of discussing a topic on the Internet because you can't recognise that you're talking to two different people, and you cherry pick elements from their posts for rebuttal.

But yeah, you're wrong and we're right, let's move on.

I'm just shocked I agree with listermint about something.

Hmmmm....so now I'm 15 months into an 18 month contract with Vodafone, I'm entitled to an upgrade. Figured I'd just go the same again, get the One, and give it to the Mrs for brownie points (I already purchased the One for myself a few months ago).

Turns out Vodafone are now forcing me to go on a 2 year contract....no thanks. Looking around, I'm seriously underwhelmed by any of the offers that are out there. I'm happy to pay €50 a month or so, and would be a heavy internet user, but there doesn't seem to be many 18 month contracts out there where the phone isn't an astronomical price.

    The search continues....

Look for the 12 month contract from Meteor.

Has anyone else noticed some discoloring on the sides of the phone?

I've had the phone about a month now and the sides of the phone have gotten quite a bit darker, almost like the coating is wearing off? Its occurring in places where I don't even hold the phone too.

Also the Beats logo has basically worn off the back already

My Beats logo was gone in a week.

    No other discolouration.

Was browsing in bed this morning, and it got nuclear hot. AndroSensor reported it as being 42.1C!
