Emmett has said it already but everything in bold is processed, nutrient free and full of sugar. You don't have a good diet that's probably why you feel crap.

Stop buying microwave ready meals, they are possibly the worst thing for you, as are the "healthy biscuits" like go ahead etc.
You are a perfect example of an advertisers dream. You only eat the stuff they tell you is good for you with no application of logic. Stop listening to the adverts, they really do not care if you are healthy only that you buy their products not something actually good for you .

Eat real food. limit your spuds.
the basic rule of thumb is the more healthy it says it is on the packet, the faster you should walk past it in the isle.

Here is what you need to do. (go to a doctor/or dietician)

Go to a butcher, buy your meat there. chicken, turkey, beef pork etc, only the meat, no sauces, not pre stuffed just the meat.
go to a grocer and fill a bag with veg, 2 bags if you can.
Buy bright colored veg and leafy greens.
    get some eggs too.

For breakfast eat eggs and meat and veg.

for dinner, eat meat and 3 types of veg,
for tea, eat meat and 3 types of veg
for a snack, eat an egg, some meat or some veg or all 3

Do that for a month and if you still feel tired ill eat my hat. (provided your DR says there is nothing else wrong with you.

I thought theses days the adverts had to be true. Also with what they put on the packets has to be true? Is that not correct?

I do go to a butcher every week and but fresh plain meat.

Uncle bens rice doesnt seem that unhealthy?? Its boiled rice with a sugary sauce. From a fat point of view its a great alternative to pot noodles or a cheesy wrap i thought? True or not?
    most definitely not
You are answering your own questions.

What do you mean from a fat point of view? low fat does not mean good for you. infact it means the opposite.

Your body needs fat, or you will not function correctly. You are proof of that.

Seriously, you need to learn about what good food is. read the stickies.

adverts have to be true, but they dont have to be honest.

    for example.
My cereal, we'll call it everybran.

    Everybran contains whole wheat: true.
Every bran contains no addittives: true
    Everybran contains preservatives: true.
Everybran can help you feel full:true
every bran can help slimming as part of a calorie controlled diet: true
Everybran should be part of a healthy breakfast:True

    Now read between the lines:

Everybran contains whole wheat: so what? how much wholewheat? Do i even need wholewheat?.
Every bran contains no addittives: and? it also contains no dragon liver
    Everybran contains preservatives: ditto
Everybran can help you feel full: so can 1 kg of rocks.
every bran can help slimming as part of a calorie controlled diet: also true for 1kg of rocks.
Everybran should be part of a healthy breakfast: of course they want everybran part of a healthy breakfast.

Its advertising, as long as they don't make black and white statements like everybran will cure your insomnia they can say pretty much what ever they like.

And I forgot about the Turkey Twizzlers. Tell me, what bit of the turkey is its twizzler??7

Edit: Sorry I thought these were mentioned in your diet, they were just used to make a point, ignore :)

I will do. I'm thinking now its to do with fat. I've been avoiding it so much with the benecol and low fat junk.

The point youre missing is that your replacements for junk are still really not good. If you check out the nutritional values they are sometimes worse than what they replace. Crisps are overprocessed no value food regardless of what it says on the packet.

You feel better temporarily because you have fed your sugar addiction.

Not looking for a lecture on healthy eating. ive done that, it didnt make a difference.
Have you really? For how long? Your knowledge of what constitutes good food seems patchy, so maybe what you considered healthy eating actually wasnt.

You keep mentioning illnesses and intolerances, when a) you should see a doctor if you think something is really wrong and b) you should try the months healty eating as recommended by thegreatiam, and THEN see if you still want to try a restricted diet of some kind.

You are what you eat. Right now you are eating too much packet food, and your body is suffering for it.

Also, scrambled eggs or a stirfry are as quick to cook as a microwave meal. You are not lacking time, you are lacking knowledge of how to cook easy stuff fast. Get that knowledge and your diet will improve vastly.

You don't eat a fruit slice, you eat a Fruit Slice(TM) . If you had a real slice of fruit that would be healthy. The Fruit Slice is no better than a chocolate bar.

Not looking for a lecture on healthy eating. ive done that, it didnt make a difference.

You've done your perception of healthy eating. Its not the same.

Its steamed carrot and parsnip or potatoes and u just ding it in the microwave for 2 mins and its supposed to be a healthy lunch.

My father always says, you never ask a barber whether you need a haircut. According to Mash Direct's marketeers, its a healthy lunch. Just looked online, according to the nutritional information one serving is 100grammes and is only 38 calories. Calorie wise thats half a boiled egg. You have that as your lunch?
Uncle bens rice doesnt seem that unhealthy?? Its boiled rice with a sugary sauce. From a fat point of view its a great alternative to pot noodles or a cheesy wrap i thought? True or not?

Fat. You seem fixated on fat. You don't get fat from eating fat. In eastern europe it is common to spread pork fat on bread the way we do with butter. Its actually very tasty and
great for keeping energy up during the cold winter(that reminds me, I must make some). The rice thing is not a great alternative to a pot noodle. It is a pot noodle only with rice instead of noodle. Just because Uncle Bens friendly face is on the front does not make it healthy.

I used to get terrible 4pm slump. Couldn't keep my eyelids open until going home time. I figured out the high carb lunch i was having was the problem, sucking all my energy. Now I have a leafy green salad, a boiled egg, and full fat mayo, and I've not had a slump in months. In fact the last time I did it was because I went out for lunch and had the carvery roast which involved a lot of roast potatoes and mash.

Was common here (and uk) and I assume US too until a few years ago.
Probably stopped being common place around the time margarine manufacturers started advertising. Weird.

Could it be something as simple as not getting enough water on board throughout the day? (had a quick search through the thread but didnt notice you saying how much you drink other than some juice and fizzy water.)

    Hi Johnny,

I drink a lot of fizzy water. Does anyone know if this is any way detrimental to health? I read that they used to think it took calcuim out of your system but i think this was rebuffed some years ago.

I would normally keep an eye on my hydration levels when im goin to the toilet and adjust. Except for when im busy in work and i can go all day without drinking any water.

Would vitamin suppliments make up for some of the healthy food i dont eat?

The sleepy thing is when i eat lunch, ten minutes later my eyes close. Once i fell asleep on a chair while talking in my parents house after having tea and biscuits.

High carbs and low fat intake may be the answer.

Also is there anything non-healthy about a plain chicken subway with all the veg they have??

supplements are there to supplement your diet.
If you have a bad diet then youll be supplementing a bad diet.
fix the diet first. then worry about supplements.

maybe youre parents are borning. Maybe its because you have small kids and dont get much sleep.

you need fat. end of. start eating more fat.
    Sensor wrote: »

yes. First, its usually processed meat.
chicken in slices like this is re constituted. basically they take a load of chicken carcasses blast them with a hose to get the remains of the meat of, squish all that meat up and call it chicken breast, slice it and serve.
There is no veg in a subway sandwich. it's all salad.

No there isnt anything really wrong with salad, but you need veg.

Plus the bread is pretty bad for you. eating wheat can cause your symptoms.

Stop trying to look for shortcuts, there aren't any. eat real meat, eat real veg, eat real dairy. there is nothing simpler than that.

You could take a vitamin supplement, but its more fun to have varied tasty food.
The sleepy thing is when i eat lunch, ten minutes later my eyes close. Once i fell asleep on a chair while talking in my parents house after having tea and biscuits.

I reckon thats because you are eating 100g of mashed potato and parsnip which despite its density is only 38 calories.

Subway get some stick but there is worse you could be having. In your case though where you get sleepy after lunch, I'd suggest a salad instead. A subway sub has a lot of bread in it to process which can lead to the drowsy symptoms. A basic chicken sub is a thin piece of chicken, lettuce and then a big chunk of bread. Its like the mashed potato, its filler. You need more protein, and more healthy fats.

Ok so today i ditched a low fat bachelors noodle chicken pot thing and went to a sandwich shop and got a fresh chicken wrap with salad and a little cajun sauce. I ate my go ahead yoghurt slices because it was either that or a bar of choc form the sandwich place.

For the past 20 mins ive felt "gittery". My hands are sort of shakey like ive had a lot of caffeine but im not feeling tired - yet. I know from experience from this point on i just get more and more tired and this is just some sort of sugar high.

Is this normal I ask you? I work mostly at a desk but im always running back and forth across a yard every 10- 15 mins to get my orders!

I will try the months healthy eating but as far as eating good food, compared to other people i know, live and work with, i get a totally different reaction to the same foods. For example my partner, we eat the same for dinner. Sometimes she skips lunch altogether and other times she has a salty cuppa soup. She doesnt feel like i do at all.

I will try more stirfrys and scrambled eggs but i used to do all that and then gave up because i still felt the same so whats the point!

You are not the same as your husband. Just because he doesn't get a reaction doesn't mean anything.

No two people are the same.

Go to a dietitian. You have a warped idea of what healthy food is and although you are trying, you probably are one of these people that just need things planned out for them. There's nothing wrong with this but I suggest you do this for your own benefit.

Has anyone beeen to a dietician? How much do they usually charge?? and is it all, eat more greens and some fish?

I know my diets crap but im trying. I hate the taste of all fish, veg isnt my strong point either but i try. Thats why i take the vitamins and omega 3 oils.

i was in a rush so i went to the local petrol station today and bought a fresh salad bowl. I had chicken, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, peppers, grated cheese and a boiled egg. a small spoonful of full fat mayo and one slice of brown wheaten bread. it was lovely and filled me right up. If id; still been hungry I'd have had a apple or an orange but I was grand.

breakfast today was granola with strawberries, blue berries, natural yoghurt and a little honey. yum!

Fresh fruit and carrotts dont fill me like the go ahead does.
I used to buy the chopped carrott ina bag and take that to work but again it didnt seem to help so i stopped doing it.

sounds mad to me. i know the go ahead bars, just dont understand why the choice was one of those or a choc bar. the go ahead bars are like cardboard. yuck. and empty calories - id be hungry 10 minutes after eating them.

fruit or veg however, have complex carbs which release energy slowly and fill you up longer. i think you need to do a lot of research on nutrition.

Maybe its a refined sugar craving but fruit and carrotts dont do it for me. They just dont fill me up and id feel sick before i felt full up, if i ate a lot of em.

i had mayo because i like it. a small amount of full fat mayo is no harm and actually better for you than the light nonsense. a full jar of it wouldnt be good for you obviously. i had it as well as an egg. it wasnt a substitute for anything.

this thread (no offense) is really frustrating. you really need to read up on basic nutrition.

on sunday I roasted 4 chickens (tesco €8 for 2)
Take the whole chicken, cover in butter, (get it under the skin)
sprinkle with rosemary, salt and pepper.
oven @180 cook for 1-1.5 hours.
take out of oven, wrap in foil to cool down.

when its cold rip the meat off with your bear hands. pull it from the bones

(dont discard the bones or the juices that come from the chicken)

Put the meat in a lunch box with mustard and rocket, 2 hand fulls of your favorite veggies (chopped carrots work, beetroot, onions, anything you like)
and a chunk of grated cheddar.

Put the bones and any juices that game from the chicken in a large heavy pot, or slow cooker. Cover with 3 litres of water and put on a low heat. Let it cook like this for a few hours. Then drain off the liquid and bin the bones.
This liquid stock can make a soup in about 5 minutes or freeze it and use it later.

Thats lunches for me and the missus for a whole week, and snacks when im peckish. and a lovely soup or curry for 2 evenings.
With the veggies it all cost less than €20 and took less than 20 minutes to make.
While it was cooking in the oven I boiled 18 eggs so I always have breakfast and made some peanut butter cookies for treats.
