    Folks,

many of you have probably received your first bill. Make sure you examine it with a fine tooth comb etc. they overcharged me by a fair chunk of cash after failing to bring over a number of my concessions. This despite me talking on the phone to a number of agents and all of them reasuring me everything was in place and all the concessions were brought over. It's not a major thing as they're sorting it and crediting my account. Nonetheless when paying by DD it was a huge chunk out of my account and could've used the spare money at the time.

Just received my bill, and it's undecipherable without a degree in accounting. Still have no real idea how much my 'regular' bill will be once credits are out of the way.

The bill includes charges for 2 months of TV and broadband, and 1 month of phone, with big credits for the disconnected services, and last month's bill being brought through as a balance (it's a direct debit, so it would/should have been paid, if charged).

The total amount is about 30 euros less than pre-Horizon, rather than 90 (I don't know if/when that's credited), plus I was downgraded from 120Mbps to 100Mbps so it should be a tad cheaper.

I'm thinking some of the dvd on demand at so old they should be only 1 € to rent and the hd dvd should be 3 dvd for 3 night for the price of two dvd hd like xtravision some kind deals with them more people would watch more dvd

You're being charged in adance apparently - 1.5 months

That would be a good idea. DVD bundles or something to attract more people to watch the movie service. I have a 12 euro credit to do so and might just use it. But after that maybe not.

Got my horizon box deconsolidated and went with Thompson router instead. Headache over. Gone from 0.06mbs in bedroom to 40+mbs.

I recommend doing the same until widespread issues are taken care of as channels don't seem to help at all.

Had 2 technicians look at it incase you are wondering.

    Pp

Does getting the box de-consolidated and having the internet though a router affect your price at all? Been thinking about getting the EPC2425 router reactivated but I can't help but think they'll want to charge me extra for both the horizon box AND a router.

EPC2425 max download speed is 30mb
If you get Horizon box de-consolidated you wont have 50mb
You will need the newer router they are providing Technicolor tc7200 or the Thompson TWG870
both of them not much better than the Horizon Router
If you want to keep using the EPC2425 you will only have 30MB Speed

Another Option and much better option is to leave The Horizon alone as it is and connect the Horizon to A Wireless Router Like Belkin or Netgear
and put the Belkin or Netgear in wireless access mode will give you better Wireless performance and also use either router as Gigabyte switch
Also you should get UPC to check your cabling as there might be poor quality problems there
Are you getting full speed in a wired connection 50mb eg if on 50mb package
Wireless is always less and will be better if you use above option to avoid wireless dropouts
If your wired speed is not 50mb get upc to check your cable to house and cable to horizon there could be a short and how old is your existing cables

Called up UPC today about my Wifi issues, fixed in 5 mins. Very surprised it was that easy!

It could be the DHCP lease time. I had a similar problem (on the previous router) where it was set to 30 or 60 minutes by default, thus causing regular disconnects. Change it to the largest value possible (9999 or 99999 etc.)

Is that 'Key Interval'? My key interval is set at 600 seconds. I cant find DHCP lease time on the Horizon wireless menu

    I had that happen
This happened to me when I did a factory reset and it got stuck to welcome to horizon
The 50% R Scanning will take over 2 hours to finish then shows 70% and then 50% R loading which also takes over 1 hour and then original setup screen happens so it might be back to normal in the morning
If after setup finish you don't get beyond than welcome to horizon screen
call UPC to reset the box
you will have to call UPC 1908
They will reset the box from there end just follow instructions they give you
It will be a full reset
ALL SETTINGS WILL BE BACK TO FACTORY ORIGINAL SETTING
Your wireless SSID will be returned to original so if you had changed that you will have to set up again to what you want

Note when they finish the reset they might tell you press ok after they finish at there end the reset
Noting happens press menu instead and channels are back working
Note also if you were changing any settings in router by using http://192.168.192.1/ all those setting will also be back to factory settings
If you changed admin password it will be back to admin and you will have to wait about 10-15 min before you can log in using http://192.168.192.1/

    What changes did they make?

IF YOUR USING ANY WIRELES G SET TO 20MHZ ONLY
WIFI change to 20mhz only not 20/40

Note if you have 100mb or 150mb package you will need to set to 20/40 setting as max rate on 20mhz is 144mb
    20/40 setting is 300mb max
But only if your wireless on pc or device is N WITH MAX RATE OF 300MB and your not using any wireless g devices
If your only using devices that are wireless n in settings use n only instead of mixed

If your using any wireless g make sure its set to mixed mode
I have noticed the signal does not drop as much but still does a bit
if you do the above and following below

Use program called insider to see performance on different channel
best channel to use are 1 or 6 or 11
All depends on who's also is on the channel if your next door neighbour is on same channel use a different one look for any strong signal near your router it will show up in green if strong and avoid that channel if possible depending on amount of other wireless networks close by if you have a lot of strong signal of other SSID near you and cant find a channel that won't cause interference there not much you can do except get another router and set up in wireless access mode or buy power-line extenders or wireless extenders
In ideal world you have a channel on 1/6/11 that's just you but as more of your neighbours have wireless broadband this will cause interference and avoid baby monitors even your next door neighbour if thy have one find out what channel its on and avoid that channel

If you have an Android device or some similar smart phone it should be easy enough to download a wifi analyzer app so that you can see what networks you are receiving in your home and what channels they're on. It may assist in finding a network channel that works for you.

    Thanks, I have insider.

Have 100M so will leave it at 20/40.

I'll check whether my wireless devices are g or n.

    Good info here.

I'll also add one point here - if you're on 2.4GHz (which everyone is, as 5GHz is disabled), then the Horizon box may auto-disable 40MHz channels (even though they're "On" in the interface) due to interference with your neighbours - even if you select a channel that no neighbour is using. You need to use one of the Wifi tools to find a channel where the neighbouring channels are free too (i.e. "a big gap" :) )

For me, I used the higher channels (13, I think) which fewer people seem to use, and 40MHz re-enabled.

40MHz channels are very useful, given they virtually double your N Wifi speeds.

    Hi folks,

Just letting you know that we would be happy to review any wireless issues customers are experiencing on the Horizon trial, if you PM UPC: Reps with your account details.

    Thanks

Sorry, at work so I can't confirm. If no one else answers first, I'll check when I get home.

Just an update in my R Scanning issue.

A tech call out has being ordered and a new box is on its way as UPC couldn't fix the issue.

When I signed up I perfumed the box was at UAT level, it appears its not I think I may just give it back and go with sky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,190 ✭✭✭quenching

My Horizon box is being returned tomorrow and I'm going back to the old, but still flawed, system of HD DVR and separate modem. The TV guide and channel browsing are so completely useless that I now have no idea whats on TV anymore, and little confidence that any scheduled recordings will happen as planned. At least with the old box I knew what was being missed!

I've tried the Horizon box for 2 months and its not for me, or anyone else that has seen it for that matter. If UPC release it without MAJOR changes to the user interface they would be stupid beyond belief.
