Well, given that they gave us 90+ euros in credit for being on the trial, it's not too crazy a notion that if you leave it early you have to give some back.

They should be given us all something back for the amount of crap we have put up with for the last while, the constant freezing, glitches, breakdowns, crap service.

Anyhow the €90 is not much credit when you think lots of ppl have bills of around 70-80ish for tv and broadband.

Would disagree as the basic functionality does not work. Wifi and hd channels are basic functions

If we were talking about the removal of channels from the app, twonky not working, on demand not working or ancillary items like the guide I would agree. If these were issues I wouldn't complain either just provide feedback

Are you ringing UPC? If you're having issues contact them and get them to send out engineers, replace the box etc.

I've had two engineers out and the box replaced. It's now working perfectly.

My main gripes with the box:-

Streaming from a NAS - Pausing (for 10-15 minutes) can freeze the UPC box. Also, when you come out of a program (to watch TV etc) and then go back in, it would be great if it remembered where you left off.

Remote control and/or menu navigation can be a bit laggy.

    Need a series deletion option.

    WiFi speeds should be better.

    500 GB.

If you're recording in HD, that's going to fill your box a lot faster than SD...

500 gig drive, 400 GB recording space and with Several SD channels playing the HD version you may not have the option of recording the SD version. I can see the drive filling up real fast!!!

How big is the existing box's HD?

Just going through my recordings and i see that any recent series set during last few days to be recorded from HD channel is being doubled - recorded from HD and SD as well. Well that somethin new...

Yep, I clicked on the link in the email but there they already have 100.

Email arrived at 17:09, clicked on the link at 17:16 and it was already full. Didn't have much of a chance.

Since the update last Friday , the wifi range is still quite bad.
Last night the on demand library locked up ...had to switch off box to rectify problem.
On very isolated occasion the sound drops for a second or two....

For the info of UPC techs..

Yes they are coming out to me. Hope it resolves it.

Could be a great piece of hardware if they sort the bugs out.

I've an engineer coming out this week too to try and resolve issues. The call centre folk can't connect to my box half the time so I'm guessing it's either a box issue or a cable signal issue.

it took me 3 calls to get my HD channels back, the first 2 times i was apparently being sent a signal, i think as far as Horizon is concerned its who you get rather than signals or cables

my box is telling me theres no recordings then closing the menu. When I reopen the recordings menu and scroll up my stuff is there but the box locks up after I go about 5 items up

Agreed, I was onto them last night and the person I was dealing with was adamant that UPC didn't carry Sky Arts 1 in HD. :-* I

Got my horizon box deconsolidated and went with Thompson router instead. Headache over. Gone from 0.06mbs in bedroom to 40+mbs.

I recommend doing the same until widespread issues are taken care of as channels don't seem to help at all.

Had 2 technicians look at it incase you are wondering.

    Pp

I had to do the same yesterday. The engineer was insistent that there must have been a baby monitor on somewhere in our apartment block that was interfering with Horizon! That was after trying all of the channels in order to improve range. But the Thompson router works perfectly. I don't think any of them have a clue about the Horizon box.

Some staff are way more knowledgeable than others in the support centre.

Was there any charge for deconsolidation?

UPC tech support quoted me 50 Euro to do it so I told them no way :-)

Here's a strange one - anyone noticed that when you record part of a programme, ie. the end, the Horizon box miraculously is able to record the whole programme!!
This happening me with 'Must Love Dogs' RTE1 the other night. Had the channel on pause, before we started to watch it, so maybe had something to do with it. Had to fast forward thro 50 minutes to get to way I recorded from.
Could this be the 1st miracle of the Horizon box! I'm getting on to the Vatican with my 400 mins of International calls add-on!:D

I assume it is like a Sky box. If you are watching a channel, not recording it, the box records it anyway, in case you want to pause or rewind later. If at any point you decide to record the show, the box records as much as possible, from when you selected that channel.

The horizon also has a feature, where it automatically tunes the channel number above and below, where you presently are, so if you go up one channel, there is less of a delay as the channel is already tuned. I doubt it records channels you are not watching in case you want to record it later, just the channel actually being watched on the TV

As long as you don't change channel when you are watching something if you press record it'll record all of it or from whenever you turned on to that channel.
Not so great when you are watching the athletics, have to leave for the last 20 minutes, record it and then come back to watch it and have to fast forward for 4 hours before you get back to where you were. Not a bad complaint though. :)

It should really ask you if you want to record from now or the beginning.

Yeah that would be a nice option and I'm sure they'll role it out eventually.

I'm taking part in the latest survey. They have requested me to series record 4 programs, they happen to be 4 programs that are recorded regularly in my house. Do they know what i watch :D

    Hi folks,

I would just like to clarify that there is definitely no charge if a customer requests to be removed from the Horizon trial. Apologies to anyone who was advised otherwise. We are passing on the feedback received here to ensure this is made clear to anyone enquiring about this in the future.

We would also invite anyone experiencing service issues on the trial, or who has any feedback they would like to discuss, to PM UPC: Reps with their account details, and we will put you in contact with a member of our Horizon Team.

Thanks to everyone providing feedback regarding the Horizon trial on this thread. We continue to pass on all such feedback to the Horizon Team.

    Hah... maybe.

I was like 'awh damn'. I missed participating in that by a few minutes.

    Hi there,

Is there a charge for de-consolidation? I still have my old cable modem here in the house, I wouldn't mind if the Internet was delegated back to this device.

    Thanks.

No charge. They sent an engineer out first to try fix Horizon as the phone support people weren't able to improve the range and speed. When the engineer couldn't fix it he just got the Thompson modem set up for me. He had one in his van.

I had the wireless security set at WPA2 and the WiiU was working perfectly wirelessly.

I then had to change from WPA2 to WPA to connect the xbox wirelessly.

Sometime afterwards the WiiU lost connection with the Wii servers after approx 30 minutes. I was able to connect the WiiU by USB to the horizon box but the WiiU wireless speed is much faster that USB.

Is there a refresh rate or something similar on Horizon that causes the WiiU to lose the wireless connection on a regular basis?

It could be the DHCP lease time. I had a similar problem (on the previous router) where it was set to 30 or 60 minutes by default, thus causing regular disconnects. Change it to the largest value possible (9999 or 99999 etc.)

To be honest, it's a trial so problems are to be expected (not wanting to sound like a smartass here). If there were only minor problems, it would be the old UPC box (BOOM! take that UPC! :P)

Apart from the initial couple of weeks, and problems for me with it not working well with HDMI switches, it's been pretty good and stable.

I do agree 90 euros doesn't amount to much, far less than my monthly bundle charge. Still, we did all volunteer for this trial, it wasn't pushed upon us.
