Had a Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale today, for the second time. Yep, still very nice.

The only Rogue beer I've tried, thought it was gorgeous

I've been drinking a few of these recently. I'm brutal at identifying flavours (malt, hops, etc), but there's something these beers have in common that I haven't tasted in anything else. They're both Belgian, so perhaps that's relevant. It's kinda fruity.... Is that from the malt or the hops or something else?

Liking them or not is the most important part :D

Belgian beers of all types have a fruit based undertone.

    Absolutely!

Most of the 'beer talk' goes way over my head. But it's slowly starting to win me over nonetheless. I was drinking with a couple of wine nerds at the weekend, and they were both waxing lyrical about whatever grape they were after blowing 30 quid on. And there was I, six bottles of Duvel, two brain cells, and one loose tongue, and I still hadn't an answer for them.

Check out this site for example of overstating stuff.

A hint of grass, melon, orange, floral, coconut and so on.

    Fcuk off.

I love it. And no two posters ever post the same stuff re flavours and tastes.
Does help in identifying great beers from good beers when im in drinkstore and im totally lost as to what extra stuff I want to buy

I love it too, for its comedic value :p.

Beer to me is simple. Good head, good price, would I drink it all night and drink it again.

Maybe I am unsophisticated, probably :P

    Irish translation:

Hint of grass = How much was that dirt?

Melon = You got that in Aldi.

    Coconut = Not too bad.

Floral = That's grand stuff. Is your sister coming out tonight?

Could be to do with the yeast used. As far as I know, Belgian strains impart a slighty fruity flavour as opposed to some of the more flavour-neutral yeasts used elsewhere.

If you're starting to like Belgian beer get yourself a blue Chimay, if you haven't already. Easy enough to find and one of the best beers going.

Definitely the yeasts, and I presume the use of candi sugar has something to do with their 'Belgian' flavour as well.

And yes. get blue Chimay. It is the nectar of the gods.

Tried a bottle of Sabotage by Trouble Brewing the other night. Very nice indeed. Quite similar to O'Hara's beers in that there was a real roastiness to it. It also had that twangy bitterness that you get from a lot of English Ales which was just about kept in check by the sugary malts. Probably expecting more hops though but I really liked it.

Also had a Mikkeller Tomahawk Single Hop IPA. Not sure about this one. The profile of the hops used in it had an almost medicinal/herbal aftertaste that I wasn't a huge fan. Interesting enough, but not one of their best.

The best beers are invariably ones you wouldnt drink all night.

Spent last night drinking free Heineken, the diacetyl was gag inducing. Had two pints of O'Haras Pale after, what a relief. Their pale is a cracker.

I didn't really like any of the single hop IPAs from Mikkeller or Brewdog from their IPA is dead series. I remember one of the formers tasting of wet grass, there is definitely an unpleasant herbal taste from them too. Don't think I am going to bother with any of this single hop malarkey in the future, have had 7/8 different bottles and none were worth buying again.

Had Mikkeller American Dream pale ale and Green+Gold. Not impressed with either, your standard decent IPA. Have also had 8 Wired Superconductor DIPA lately, was ok, think it may have been suffering from being a bit old. Absolutely hate when hoppy beers don't have a "brewed at" date on them.

Hop forward kiwi beers dont stand up to the time and distance involved in shipping them here. I taught the Mikkeller Nelson Sauvin was excellent myself.

I thought the Nelson Sauvin was nice. I still have the Brewdog series to get through, but I'm not holding out much hope for them as the reviews haven't been great.

Yeah, it's make ya wonder if they're worthwhile.

:( Picked a bottle of each recently, haven't tried them yet.

Hopefully makes it to the off licences too, not sure when I'll be in Kilkenny next

Is this a Bourbon barrel conditioned brew/?

Delirium Tremens for the first time. Really nice, but I can't get away from it seeming like a Hoegarden after a week in bootcamp. Hides the alcohol well though.

Forgot to mention this, but does everybody know where the name comes from? It was news to me. Obviously it's also where expression "Having the DTs" comes from.

I always assumed it was associated Detox. Learn something new everyday.

Same here. Never really gave it much thought tbh, but I just thought it had something to do with Detox.

Saw a 4 pack of O'Hara Pale ale and Stout.
Only 330ml bottles or 11oz I think they are.

    $11.99 for a 4 pack here.

Found a bottle of the 8 Degrees Winter's Ale in an offie in Limerick. Looking forward to sampling it tonight.

Having a Titanic IPA with dinner.
Unfortunately had a 5am Saint beforehand so either the IPA is a bit insipid in taste or I've killed my taste buds with the Saint!
    Probably the latter...
