I still have dreams of Pliney The Elder. Sweet sweet dreams.

I meant the bottle was just over a pint in total.

I had about half a pint, like, I filled up that porterhouse half pint glass and then the lads got about a 1/4 a pint each or something close to it.

What Im getting at is that beers of that caliber are cheaper than the endless procession of uninspiring pale ales, reds and stouts from Irelands craft brewers.

Had 2 gorgeous bottles of Paulaner at the weekend. Not an expert but I think it was a wheat beer. It was really cloudy and so smooth. It was a good thing for my Monday morning that I only had two bottles! My wife got it in Aldi or Lidl.

I used to live on Paulaner when I first discovered good beer. The Franziskaner in Lidl is good too and quite cheap.

On to Einstok Toasted Porter, one from Iceland, very nice indeed.

Wow found one of the nicest stouts in my opinion its called Bell's Kalamazoo Stout - Bell's Brewery, Inc.
Its a light stout, almost like a milk stout.
Lovely roasted malt rolls over the tongue with a slight coffee flavour.
A hint of chocolate and finishes of bitter from the hops.
Thought I tasted liquorice but cannot be 100% as if I hadn't read it on the bottle I would never have thought of it.

Really light on the carbonation too which helps.

I don't mind Samuel Adams. It's grand for a summer day. Remember those!

I'd be doing it the other way round, but each to their own.

Is O'Shea's Irish Pale Ale still being produced for Aldi? My local store hasn't had it for a few weeks, and the one in Rathmines didn't have any either when I checked. Loads of the stout and the red ale on sale in both.

Haven't seen it in the one in finglas in a while either.

Havent seen the Pale Ale around myself, hopefully thats a temporary thing.

The Kinnegar Devils Backbone Northern Amber Ale is much better than their pale I had last night.

I might be unlucky with the stores I've visited. It's a steal at the price.

    Shepherds Neame Double Stout.
I'm shocked, its actually a lovely stout!

I had almost completely wrote off this brewery, but they can actually make some nice beer. Not bad at all.

Their best beer by far. I know that's not saying much but it stands up really well on its own.

Sipping on this at the moment. Really nice it is too.
    http://www.drinkstore.ie/Innis-%26-Gunn-Rum-Cask-Finish-750ML-736040521303/

Only bought it cos it was on special, but cask aging gives it a really nice spiced rum flavor.

It's a nice brew, I'd recommend the Kindred Spirit stout as well. Just about to pop open a bottle of Tyskie, never tried this polish beer before. At 4 for €5 in Lidl it was a good bargain :)

Oak Aged Unearthly (Imperial India Pale Ale) - Southern Tier Brewing Company : pours and it looks like a burnt orange colour.
Smells quite sweet and and a dampness of hops.

Tastes like sugary/syrup water initially then the malt and oakiness creeps in.
Another mouthful and you get the hops but nothing crazy.

You can feel the 9.5% alcohol after 2 glasses.

    Certainly not a session beer.

Interesting beer all the same but not a regular one.

Oh, Delirium Nocturnum! Where have you been all my life?

Hop Henge Experimental IPA - Deschutes Brewery : OK that's 2 nights in a row that I have got beer that's amazed me.

Pours a perfect golden colour. Smells like orange zest with as little piney whiff.

Tastes amazing, a light caramel feel followed by hoppy bitterness. Nowhere near a hop bomb but just right.

The label says its a 10.5% as alcohol but doesn't taste it.

A 1 pint bottle cost me $10 but well worth it.

I actually think its up there with one of the best American IPA's I have ever had.

Friend just back from a conference in Seattle and she got me and the house mate some, think it's a bottle of Inversion and Black Butte each, if so, I'll be a happy bunny :)

That should be a banable offence! I wouldn't go near Asahi and Sam Adams is a grand beer. Not unbelieveably spectacular I agree but very drinkable and quite nice.

Anybody know if the Innis and Gunn pale ale is available anywhere apart from the drink store?

O'Brien's Wines at the Parkway in Limerick had it last week, so if they have an outlet near you they might be worth trying.

    Doppel Hirsch.

Nice Dopplebock - German dark malty extra strong larger. Plenty of nourishment in it.

    3.29 a bottle but 7.3%

Dunnes and Tesco's should stock it as well.

Love this, underrated beer IMO. Swingtop bottles a big plus.
