This looks interesting, to say the least.

    http://kotaku.com/steam-might-soon-let-you-share-your-games-with-your-fri-514219133

Not the first time junk code has ended up in a Steam build, but the timing (considering the Xbox One, etc.) is certainly interesting. I'd absolutely love to see this.

tl;dr - Friends sharing your games / visa versa.

Microsoft have done a complete 180 on their DRM and licence policy i.e. you can trade games in now etc.

    Didnt expect that tbh.

I don't understand why they didn't say games will cheaper and stop ****ty game-stop from getting a large piece of the pie. They will be happy for another generation of consoles tho charging stupid prices for 2nd hand games.

because that is bs and they will be called out on it. how many companies compete with steam sales, 4-5? how many can compete with xbone? none

    Welcome to the broadband masterrace!

I was a member for years. ;) It's just since moving back to my parents that I've been relegated to peasant 4Mb.

That's good news about the DRM on the xbox. I think it's better that it happened this way as it increased awareness of bad DRM policies and it mightn't have caused such ripples if they just sneaked it in gradually.
Plus I feel Microsoft need a wakeup call once in a while. I have no interest in buying the consoles, but the associated industries are interesting and I prefer to see DRM like that get shot down; I'm not even that fond of steam as it is.

I think that it would have really hurt Microsoft short and long term, handing over a lot of power to Sony. Their country restrictions were preposterous, even from a view where you want to protect the digital value of games. I hope their 'loan friends a game' sees some success as I thought it was a pretty good idea. Very interesting if it comes to steam as Serephucus linked earlier. I can't really see it working for many single player games (from a publisher's point of view). Sure you'd get most games finished in a week unless it's a long RPG. It could work with multiplayer - say if a friend played a few games of left 4 dead on your account and then they got into it, they might end up buying it as it's the kind of game that you're going to play with friends.

Im delighted that the DRM got **** on so much that EA distanced themselves from MS' stance. It's hopefully a turning point for all platforms and a sign to Manufacturers and publishers that this **** will not be tolerated

It bodes really badly that they turned around completely on such a huge design decision, though. I mean, sure, great, they're not implementing the DRM BS, but if they're willing to make such a huge design, it means they f*cked up bigtime. Bigtime. It makes you wonder where else they might have f*cked up , too...

Im reading the fanboy tears on the xbox one reddit

HOLY **** they're dumb they actually believe that the DRM would bring them steam sales. They dont seem to grasp the idea of a closed system and a monopoly

Seems the sharing thing on the xbox could be getting the bin for now. I'd say they could sneak half of their things back over the lifetime of the console, but at least there's more choice now.ap

The thing about steam is that it's actually really expensive to buy games from them. It astounds me that people will pay €50 because 1) they want to keep their games together and 2) the convenience of not bothering to get the retail versilon even when it is a steam activated game.

If there were no alternatives to steam, the prices would stay like that. Valve are very clever marketers and they know that their sales will drive people to them - heck they even have me buying quite a lot of stuff over the time and I don't even like them that much. The sales gain a lot of ground by being talked about so much internet-wide and it has pushed a lot of other sellers to follow in the example, so there's clearly a lot of sales made in this time. I remember seeing some statistics a few years back where they earned a good few million even from portal, a game that even been free for a period during that year!

Valve marketed Steam very well indeed. The overheads are nil compared to retail stores, it's a worldwide store. Even piracy of steam games is a bit tougher. This all adds up. This accessibility is amplified by the constant deals and stuff, which "allows" them to sell platinum games at 50 to 55 euro at release without being crucified.

I can never understand why anyone pays for new released games from steam when you can get them for 30-35 euro or even cheaper else where like http://www.g2play.net/store/home.php

Most of them redeem on Steam so it's the exact same as if you bought it there. I rarely buy anything from Steam anymore when sites like GMG and Amazon.com regularly have sales that beat Steam Sales.
