Kieron McQuaid has a pop at clubs like Tiernans and the Chain Gang Tralee.
Tiernans - race on the CI calendar, 15th of September, club has grown substantially in the last few years and in response felt that it would be both inappropriate not to host a race now that they once again have the man power to do so. Members from this club have also helped out other clubs over the past few years in other ways such as their prep for the Ras, helping run a club league in conjunction with other local clubs etc.

I should clarify that I myself have done little or nothing but am aiming to get more involved as time should permit more freedom in the near future.

Guys, I've got a cached version of the article here, where do I (the site) stand if I post it ?

He is family and will be raw and hurting following the vote. I think any comments he may have said need to be seen in that context.

I would love to read the article, however, I'm inclined to agree with RobFowl, that it's better to move on. And Sticky Bottle must have had good reasons to remove the article.

Sorry but you cannot post it Junior - Sherlock's SI on copyright means even if it was still up you could only quote a maximum of a paragrah based on Boards guidelines

there is nothing in it. he is a bit hurt as rob suggested and its understandable. Kieron is a very entertaining character who I met only once but enjoyed it immensely. we were watching the mens RR in the VIP tent at the worlds in Copenhagen. Lovely guy.

Once again I have to re-iterate I have the utmost respect for the McQuaid family it was never personal. I know they wont talk to me again but so be it. I would be distraught now had I gone along and abandoned my priniciples, principles that I have learned from great women and men some of whom voted Yes on Saturday.

Were we to lose from the sport those people who voted for the motion, there wouldn’t be a sport.
    Cock.

A good read. He does make some interesting points about other sports and doping, but they are irrelevant to this debate. It comes across as someone pining for the rare aul' times which have passed him by and will never come again...

As I can only quote one paragraph I'll quote this one.
Maybe we should have expected this to happen. We are, after all, known as a nation of begrudgers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,860 ✭✭✭TinyExplosions

There's also this one.. I would have thought there were quite a few people who know how to run cycling active on the social media!
These are the people the sport depends on to exist. The motion was defeated by people who know more about the ins and outs of social media and its influences than they do about running cycling; either in this country or internationally.

If everyone posts a paragraph each, then it's all fair usage/no one can complain can they... :)

He lost me as soon as he started attacking social media...
I don’t, and won’t, do either Facebook or Twitter. My opinion on those whose lives are run through these social media forums is best kept to myself.

I don't really care about his opinions of computer users, a cycling article certainly isn't the place to make that argument... on the other hand however, it may be a good place to belittle the opinions of those who don't share your views...

BTW, In this article Keiran McQuaid makes it clear that his brother does not represent me as a cyclist.
The “old guard” were all faces I recognised from my days racing and managing teams, from far and wide throughout the country; people steeped in cycle racing, which like it or not, is the mainstay of the sport.

Well he's lost my vote right there. I am not a cycle racer, I love cycling and am forced to join Cycling Ireland in order to be a member of a club. I have written to ask CI why, but have yet to receive a satisfactory response. Keiran McQuaid, speaking on his brothers behalf has more or less stated that me and others like me are lesser than other CI members. Well I have been pushed to pay them membership fee's and have received little back, so yes, I will vote against them and try to get others involved that do respect me and my membership fee.

I may only be a CI member for a few years & he may consider me a newbie, but I am entitled to value for my money and I am entitled to be represented. To be honest, the McQuaid's come off as some kind of kartel from this article and the "old guard" their cronies...

I have one request and that is that once Pat is re-installed as president, that we/you all move on from this semi-divide in Irish cycling.
I think about getting out on my bike during work all day and to be quite honest, Bobby Mugabe could be UCI president and I'd still want to get out on the bike and go as fast as I can.
Respect to both sides of the debate and here's hoping we move on asap.
    Slo

Personally I don't see any semi-divide (except from one or two individuals who may be wanting to make out there is one). Had a good natter about helmets with someone who voted in favour of Pat at the track last night. I've been in correspondence with the President about sorting out a few anomalies in CI's constitution that came to light during this process. I had a laugh with Gaybo after the EGM (when he tried to make it into an Ireland v GB debate and I pointed out on which side of that particular "divide" I belong). The guys who supported McQuaid may be a bit thin on the ground but I've never had any issues with them throughout this whole process - we have simply agreed to differ on this particular topic

What CramCyle said, with bells on.

Honestly think that was a low blow at Tiernan's. I've been in the club less than a year but to say we aren't involved in racing? G'way in s***e.

Does nobody from STCC show up to Open Races or support them year after year? Do we not have a voice because we didn't race the Ras?

Anyone from Tiernans and Orwell or the Dublin Clubs will know some of our members who have been the backbone of the Interclub League for years. They deserve medals, not to be dismissed offhand.

Small clubs, grassroots = ignored, dismissed and not allowed have an opinion.
