    Thursday 13th June

    8.08 miles in 66.08 avg pace 8.09

couldn't make the club session again tonight so I ran home from work instead. will have to run the route in reverse in the morning as I left the bike in work this evening.

    Friday 14th June

    8.26 miles in 69.22 avg pace 8.24

Run to work this morning, again I struggled with this run in. I find it very hard to run on an empty stomach. the run home last night felt a million times easier even though it's mostly uphill and there was quite a strong breeze.
Highest mileage week in a long time, I'm bit disappointed I didn't make either club session this week. Hopefully things settle at home with the baby and I can get 1 club session in next week.

    Sunday 16th June

    13.63 miles in 1.49.24 avg pace 8.01

Nice run in the park this morning with a few lads from the club. This run felt tough in places so was glad of the company as it made me dig in and stay with them. There was a lot of marathon talk this morning, im now really looking forward to getting this marathon training started..

    Monday 17th June

    4.79 miles in 40.19 avg pace 8.25

Super easy lunch time run around eastpoint and fairview. I think the plantar fasciitis that I had last year is starting to flare up again, have had a bit of pain in the left foot after my runs over the past few days. Have been icing it and doing the stretches so hopefully it doesnt come back again.

    Tuesday 18th June

    6.88 miles in 48.39 avg pace 7.04

Managed to get up to the club this evening for the tempo session.
Awful run for me tonight, felt very unfit and couldn't get going at all. I guess thats what happens when you don't get up to the club as often as you should.

Was half thinking of doing dunshaughlin on Saturday, but tonight has told me I'm not fit enough to race at the moment. Might still do it as a blow out before settling into a marathon plan.

    Wednesday 19 June

    5.01 miles in 35.17 avg pace 7.03

Lunchtime run today out in the sun, really enjoyed this one, felt so much better running today than I felt last night. I could have gone on for a couple more miles at that pace but was tight for time as its quite busy in work .
Probably not the best idea running 2 tempo(ish) pace runs in row but I felt I needed to do it to make myself feel a bit better after feeling so sh!te after last nights session.

Really enjoyable run home from work today as I couldn't get down to the club this evening..

    Friday 21st June

    8.23 miles in 66.58 avg pace 8.08

Run to work this morning, I must be getting used to the early starts as this run felt so much easier and enjoyable than the previous 2 runs to work.
Still undecided on dunshaughlin tomorrow evening.

Getting good mileage in! Missed nothing last night, it was a light taper session at 10k pace for the Dunshaughliners 1k@10k pace, 600@10k pace, 600@10k pace. Previous Thurs was 6 x 600. A doable session on your own not like some of the lung busters of May.

Dunshaughlin's a great nights race, there'll be 15/20 from the club doing it even if you decide to do it at tempo pace, which a lot are, there'll be lots to run with. Talk of a few pints after in Brady's I hear! The one weekend I'm away, ugh!

Talk on marathon plans for the year penciled in for next Thurs after training I think.

Yeah i've been trying to up the milage a little bit before I start into marathon training, also it makes me feel a little less guilty for not making it up to the club.
I'm afraid it will be either the race or beers or neither tomorrow night, it would be a bit cheeky to head off for the full night leaving the wife and baby at home.

About that marahton plan talk next week, did i hear Tony saying that the long run wont go over 16 miles?? I'm not sure I could follow a plan like that for my first marathon, I would need to have the confidence of at least a couple of 20+ milers in the bag.

Ah yer better off, getting to the stage where we've all to up the mileage.

Few in the same boat re the drinks after the race, probably chancing your arm enough getting out running 6 days a week!

Yeah - apparently so, google 'hanson method'. I'd take convincing too, psychologically having 5/6 20 milers is comforting, but there might be some merit to it, mileage is still about the same, sure we'll see.

    Sunday 23rd June

    13.73 miles in 1.46.07 avg pace 7.43

No Dunshaughlin 10k last night, circumstances meant i couldn't get out so Im glad I hadn't targeted this race.

Change of scenery for this mornings long run, ran along the canal from Clonsilla out past Leixlip, i think i was close enough to Carton House when I decided to turn around. Really enjoyed this run despite it being quite breezy, I didn't feel the time or miles ticking along. Will definitely head out along the canal again for some long runs as running in the park every week can get a bit boring..

    Tuesday 25th June

    6.05 miles in 41.43 avg pace 6.54

I want to try and make sure I get to the marathon plan talk in the club on Thursday so if i'm definitely going to the club on Thursday it meant that going tonight probably would be pushing my luck a bit with the baby at home still a bit unsettled.
Tuesday night is usually a tempo run so thats what I tried to do today, the plan was 1 mile easy, 4 miles @6.40 pace and then 1 easy for a total of 6 miles. I felt great so I didnt slow down for the easy mile at the end and did the 5miles at 6.40 pace. So i had no cool down today.
Thats the thing about running at lunch time, I only get an hour so I am kind of limited in the sense that 6 or maybe 7 miles is the max I can do.

    Wednesday 26th June

    6.22 miles in 50.22 avg pace 8.06

Easy run today out in the sun, legs felt a little heavy after the tempo effort yesterday but I was ok once I got going..
Another incident today with a silly b*tch and her little rat like dog on one of those ridiculous retractable leads up in Ringsend Park, I hate those leads.

    Hey man

So a little while down the line now - how are you finding life juggling the baby with work and training? Run-muting and lunch time runs seem to be the solution?

You running DCM? I'm curious as to how a baby effects ones motivation to get quality miles done...and weather you might need to downgrade "a pre baby" goal...

    Hey statts
You thinking of starting a family??
I'm actually running more miles a week now than ever before. Obviously some sacrifices have to be made and getting to club sessions twice a week just isn't do-able at the moment. So running to and from work and lunch time runs suit me just fine as it doesn't affect home life at all.
DCM is definitely on the cards, all going well I'm gonna train for 3.20 but I'll be more than happy with 3.30. I'm doing the national half in august so I will see where I am at then and revise my target if I need to.
I see you joined a club, its great to train with others isn't it. It will bring you on so much quicker than training on your own.

Yeah we are actively trying, hence the questions! Obviously the baby is the most important thing but it's reassuring to know your running hasn't been affected too badly.

Yeah the club has made all the difference, went from a 1:45 HM to 1:35 within 3 months of joining. Have the same goals as you for DCM - and also doing the National half - so it will be good to compare our training efforts over the next 18 weeks. You following a club made plan? I'm going with the attached plan for now.

Ha actively trying, thats a nice way of putting it. Family is number 1 alright and there will be times that running is impossible. If you can deal with that you will be grand.

I haven't picked a plan yet, it's something I'll have to do soon I suppose. Probably wont go with the club one, there is a talk tomorrow on their plan so I'll be interested in hearing about it.
Ive looked at so many plans over the last few weeks that I have no love for any of them. I kinda think that if you get out 6 days a week, with 1 tempo run, 1 lsr with some mp miles, 1 medium run and the rest relatively easy runs you will be fine if you gradually increase your mileage.

Good luck man trying for the baby.

    Thursday 27th June

    5.09 miles in 33.42 avg pace 6.37

    Club session was 800, 800, 600 X 2, did the 4 800s consistantly in 2.54 - 2.55 and the 600s in 2.04
Felt pretty strong but it was very humid last night so i was sweating buckets.

    Friday 28th June

    6.42 miles in 52.10 avg pace 8.04

Easy pace run today down to Sandymount and along the beach for a bit.

Marathon Plan talk in the club was last night, they are going with Hansons Marathon Method. It sounds like an interesting enough plan but I dont think its for me. The long run on this plan tops out at 16 miles with the highest weekely milage being 63 miles.
As this is my first marathon I think I would need the confidence of having a couple of 20+ milers in the bag before I toe the line in October. Also this plan doesnt allow you to race during the plan and I am planning to do the National Half, Frank Duffy 10 mile and Athlone 3/4 in the run up to the marathon.
The coach (not G'OH) seemed pretty sure in saying that anybody who follows this plan will get a PB.. While I do respect the coachs thoughts on the plan I dont understand how he could be so sure that it will work as he hasnt done it himself, neither has G'OH. I think that this plan might work for more experienced runners than myself that have a few marathons done already, or for people that have trained for specific times in the past but never hit them maybe this would be a way of trying something new.

hmmm interesting, we're having our own marathon talk in the club next Tuesday so I wonder what they'll suggest. I wouldn't feel confident either about not going over 16 miles.

Anyone who went to the marathon workshop the other night in DSD got emailed marathon plans today, out of interest their 3.30 plan has 2 x 18s, and 1 x 20.

    Sunday 30th June

    8.32 miles in 66.27 avg pace 7.58

Horrible run today, went out with the intention of doing 12-14 miles. Felt fine to about mile 5 when my legs started to feel quite heavy,
i had to stop at mile six to stretch out the quads and hammers, something I've never had to do before. Then when I got going again I started to feel light headed and dizzy so decided to cut my losses and head for home. Probably the right decision but I hated doing it. I guess sometimes we all get runs like this from time to time.

    Wednesday 03rd July 2013

    6.05 miles in 42.45 avg pace 7.04

Good tempo effort today. I felt really strong out there today, maybe cutting the long run on Sunday short has been a bit of a help in the long term.
The legs feel great, what i thought was the start of plantar fasciitis last week seems to be gone and the excess weight is coming off, things are starting to fall into place again.

    Thursday 04th July

    7.02 miles in 45.47 avg pace 6.31

Had to take an unexpected day off work today but managed to get an hour to myself for a run as I wont make it to the club tonight. So I headed up to the track by myself this afternoon.

Decided to do a session that was posted on the DCM 2012 training log by Menoscemo. The session was 10x800 @ 5k pace off 60 seconds recovery. My last 5k avg pace per mile was 6.16 so was looking to do the 800s in around 3.08. After a mile warm up the time splits went as follows:

    3.05
    3.03
    3.04
    3.04
    3.01
    3.04
    2.59
    3.03
    3.02
    3.01

Really enjoyed this session and I definitely had another couple of reps in me at the end which is unusual as I normally hate doing 800s and always feel fcuked after them. Did a mile cool down afterwards, feeling pretty happy with myself for getting trough that session.
