Jesus last week I was sitting on an ikea chair swigging a coors light. The Nazis sympathisers are everywhere ;)

So where is Brian with the odds on this one, - Will the full start list be posted here?

Its in the pipeline, just reading the training runs everyone has had. A full startlist would be handy but lets be honest most of you will be in the "all others" odds :D

Landing in Dublin Airport tomorrow at 6:30pm but the venue isnt kind, maybe next year :) Looking forward to the race reports and possible hidden camera footage :P

I see Blue Moon is coming in for stick here, but its still better than the Diageo p!ss beers we see in most pubs about the place.

Hahahah "All men are frauds, the only difference is that some admit it, I myself, deny it." (or something like that) HL Mencken

TBH the only issue I really have w/ Blue Moon comes from my much heavier drinking days (about 20 lbs ago) I have quite a few friends in the craft brewing industry in New England and was pretty shocked at some of the deception and strong arming Coors did to get its "craft" offering on at bars around the area....at the expense of many a good locally brewed offering

Is this event doubling as the national championships?

(Must remember to bring trophy tomorrow)

    Right guys here's my odds.

TRR - 7/2, still the fav no doubt, strongest runner in the field and has a full mile completed in training.
Timmaay - 9/2, another strong runner, drinking ability unknown.
Krusty 7/1- won't be far away.
Ecoli - 7/1 - is he still doing this? havent heard much on here about it?
Beepbeep - 8/1, seems to be a dark horse with a track pedigree.
Kiely U - 9/1, purely based on running ability. Was knocking them back in the cole hole after london.
Peckham - 10/1, wont be far away
Meno - 14/1, will be in the top 3 drinking wise but will need at least a 30m lead on the final lap.

25/1 bar. I've surely forgotten a few but those are the names that struck me as the contenders from reading the thread.

hhhmmm...good point re ecoli. Is he locked-up in some hot weather training centre somewhere?

Think kurt won't be to far off either going on some of his past drinking stories ( and he can run a bit too)

He has a 6.17 PB and has been on the piss in NYC for the week. He may be able to run but he will be well up for the skulking.

I'm flattered to be favourite but not a chance. It's all about the skulking and I am just above average at this. Ecoli followed by KC and beep beep for me. Kurt was my dark horse but he can't race due to stupid drink driving laws ;)

Shocked to be in the 25's bar category Brian ;)

Anyway, seeing as I've done little else all week I bought a 12 pack of Pabst and just knocked 2 back. First in 31 seconds, 60 second break (to simulate my 400m pb :D) and then the second in 31 seconds again. So, whilst I'm slow drinking them, I hope they'll be even 31's throughout!

CL has headed off to do a club session and is knocking back 2 when she gets back.... Must charge the battery on my phone for the stopwatch function :D

Edit - I think this stuff might give me some flatulence issues... Bring it on ;)

6:17 that's savage running / drinking didn't know the young lad was of legal age yet.

I could be slipping down the betting, bought 6 of these earlier (355ml; 5.2%):
    beer_528.jpg
and while I was there these jumped into my hand (never had it in a can before):
    img00313-20110210-1127_520.jpg
And just as I put the credit card away this mixed pack caught eye and said buy me:

Anyway went for a run and lashed straight into a Brooklyn, found it quite to get down (20 secs +), but I'm running with it, meets the criteria and it's not Coors or Canadian.

Alllllright. Well, this time tomorrow, I'll probably still be struggling through my third lap / beer! I'm going into this blind having done no training and having not drank beer in about ten years (plenty of alcohol - but just not in beer form! :P).

I'm wondering if there are any other people who are going into this with the it's the taking part that counts spirit, or if I should just prepare myself for abject humiliation tomorrow?

I know digger is anyway, sure the poor fella can hardly walk anymore, never mind drink.

haha, where did you get that? I just picked up a 6 pack of that in Oddbins in Clondalkin, thought no-one would have ever seen it before and was just about to put up a pic myself. At 5.2% and 355ml it certainly has all the criteria but I found it in the craft section and it seems a sin to neck it (just had one mind you to 'test' and it seems very fizz and quite rich in taste).
I think I might stick with the old Corona Extra for the race as it seems a shame to waste these on this event.

While I really want to believe you... (Not that I'm wishing digger incapacity or anything - but somebody incapacitated would be nice.)

Very excited about this event now. Will be going in eyes/ mouth wide open to this one, havent got any practice in. I did the Trinity mile (with no beer) yesterday evening in 5:18, so will put my ballons on the block and say 7:59 predicted time. No idea how the chugging element will go, still not entirely sure on which beer to use, but that's all part of the experience I suppose :p

20baveria just purchased for 13euro, or 65cent each! Bargain! Now to chug 16 of them for some training tonight :p

    Weather forecast not great...

    "
Bright in the east and northeast on Friday morning but spells of heavy rain developing elsewhere will move east by afternoon. A clearance to showers will follow from the west during the evening and the showers will become heavy near western coasts by nightfall. Strong and gusty, southerly winds will develop countrywide but will veer southwest to west later. Highest temperatures 13 to 16 degrees Celsius. Met.ie

Starting bright eyed and bushy tailed in various parts on Friday morning but spells of heavy nauseousness developing elsewhere will move east by early evening. A funny looking shower will head towards the east during the evening and the shower will become loud and obnoxious by nightfall. Strong and gusty, southerly winds will develop countrywide emanating from various orifices before the showers head back towards their source later on.

Seen as it's a Thursday night and I had a mental day in work I decided on a final* chugging session with no running. Went with corona as I only have the 4 moose head's left and I don't want to buy any more of that ****. Worryingly, and I say this from an athletic point of view I've improved my chugging times. I'm not going to divulge splits as I now think I may have a not so secret weapon but they were quite good. Watched the Josh Harris video the other day and was intrigued to see he holds the bottle at a near right angle so tried this.
Actually enjoyed the corona and am going to bring 4 of them as back up and see what the consensus is tomorrow night as I reckon I can down them quicker than the moose head stuff. I'm in it to win it ;)

Twas the night before Beer Mile, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except a guy sculling pints.
The bottles were placed in the fridge with care,
In hopes that they would not lead to despair...

Nearly squeaky bum time now people.

Jasis TRR did you not just get that Moosehead case last night...tearing through it!

Right, football was cancelled tonight, so I put on the gear and went the short distance to Porterstown Park - MSB have a 400m track marked out.

Brought the Car as I knew wifey would be picking it up later on her walk.

As I pulled into the car park, I knew that things were going to be going against me - parked right beside me was a Director from where I work - had a chat with him for a while, tried to get a feeling of how long he'd be staying :) - then used the dog as an excuse to get off running.

Jaysus - do people have nothing better to be doing at 9pm on a Thursday night - parked was packed.
Settled in and done 3 miles - on the 3rd mile, I knew this was totally going against me as the Parish Priest was running in the opposite direction to me. (yes - I did say that the Parish Priest was running) Thought this was apt given my choice of attire for the Beer Mile, luckily I wasn't doing a dress rehearsal.

After 3 miles the park had nearly emptied - still some people out walking, but they were old and would have bad eyesight........wouldn't see me drinking!
Went and got my bag from the car and went to the 400m 'track' - was going to do a lap 1st then beer x2 - set off.

    Lap 1: 1:27 - nice pace - aiming for 1:30 - wasn't out of breath.

Beer 1: Shoolboy error - the beer hadn't been chilled - froth everywhere.
between finishing the lap and finishing the beer it was 41 seconds. Theres a lot to be said for organisation of beer and opener. I was also keeping an eye around for people watching the mad man in shorts, with a dog, necking back beer on his own.

Lap 2: 1:32 - felt ok - a bit swirling around - but not too bad - maybe my 1st 2 laps should be quicker??

Beer 2 : Disaster - 50 seconds- people came from all directions - so I sat down to have it - crunched - frothed over again. Very gassy to drink.

Lap 3: 1:30 - Jeebus - 2 beers swirling around didn't feel good. 2 more would be puking time. hang on.........burp.......burp.......burp........actually, doesn't feel too bad now.

    Burping is the key. Fact.

Left it at that - as any more would have been a disaster. - Even the dog was looking at me funny.

Similar to TRR's view on holding the bottle at a certain angle - if you hold it at a slightly higher angle, with 3 fingers only - with the little pinky raised and the left foot perpendicular to your left shoulder with your bum sticking out - you will look daft. fact eile.

    Roll on Friday.
Best part will be in the pub afterwards - looking forward to seeing you all.

Last session done and I upped it last minute to a 3/4 mile.

Happy with it, beering has improved significantly. Had a false alarm with an almost spew on the third lap but held it together to finish. Will probably we revising my time down to low 9 min marker.

Awaiting the alcohol to kick in...

I don't think I had as much nervous excitement the night before Boston as I do right now.

Will be buying the beer in Dunnes en-route to the race and will be going with whatever takes my fancy at the time.
