This week I have been mostly drinking Tuatara APA, which is the fecking mutts nutts.

I also had a Tool Dangerously Close to Stupid, which is nice, but it's not special. Definitely not worth €9 for the bottle, I think their First Frontier is better.

Had a bottle of Nøgne Ø Two Captains last night. Really nice, but I find myself asking the same thing every time I have an expensive beer like this, "Is it worth the premium price?" Invariably the answer is no. This case was no different.

You're paying too much for the Dangerously Close. It's around the €5 I paid for it in Cork. Certainly worth that.

€5.50 in Drinkstore, but I'd imagine Seaneh was talking about bar price.

Mickey Dolenz, have you tried Watou's Witbier? I had it there on draught in this pub in Co. Cork the other day, and it's delicious. Like Hoegaarden, but with more of a kick, a more full-bodied Hoegaarden.

No, I usually avoid the white beer section as it's a bit sweet for my tastes, although it's been a while since I tried one. I had the Watou Triple last night and it was delish. Will give its white beer a shot. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Zwijntje 8.0% ABV.

    zwijntje.jpg

Nice colour, great head. doesn't really taste of anything and certainly not like an 8er. Bit gassy. Wouldn't refuse it if offered it but would not look for it.

    4/10

    Rochefort 8, 9.2 ABV

    rochefort8.jpg

    Dark coloured, good head.

Full of flavour, sweetness hidden behind subtle yeast. Not overly boozy tasting consider its vol.

Well worth a taste if you can get. Would try again. Think I have a Rochefort 10 in the fridge and look forward to tasting it now.

    8/10

Rochefort 8 the best of the bunch imo

I'm in Greece for holidays and have been drinking Alfa, Fix, Mythos and Yellow Donkey for the last few days.

    Rochefort 10, 11.3 ABV.

A lovely dark colour, like pouring caramel from the bottle. Loses it's head almost immediately.

Very smooth and creamy to the taste. No real hint of it's high vol. After reading other reviews of it, I would agree there is a Molasses taste to it, if ever so slight. A lovely beer indeed.

Bit on the high side vol wise for me to want to drink a lot of. Will buy it again but would probably drink more of the Rochefort 8 if I were out for the night.

    Try it when you can.

    8/10

    Karmeliet Triple, 8.4 ABV

    karmeliettriple.jpg

I love the colour, great big foamy head that lasts. Nice little bite on this beer and will be picking up more of it. It is a beer I could happily sip on all night. Kinda fruity, some say banana traces but I can't taste it.

    I like it.

    8/10.

    Agreed

I bounce between 6 and 8, but never tried a 10. I just feel it wouldn't match the 8, or be slighty too strong.

8 is so perfect, but I guess it'd do no harm to try.

Man, Buried At Sea is the best stout/Porter on the market at the moment, a couple of months ago I wouldn't drink the Galway Bay stuff, fair play to them they've really turned it around

Rocking the aldi O Shea Pale tonight, Is it wrong that I prefer this to O Haras

Mickey, Westvletern XII is better than all the Tripels put together. It's expensive but worth it.

On the Eight Degrees, started with the Howling Gale Ale, on the Porter now. Very impressed. Do they do it in bigger bottles? Going to wash them down with a Fullers IPA.

    brugse Zot, 6.0 ABV

    brugsezot.jpg

Nice head on pouring. A cloudy golden colour.

Fruity and tangy with a little bit of bitterness.
    Would drink again. Refreshing.

    7/10

    Westmalle Dubbel, 7.0 ABV

    westmalledubbel2.jpg

Dark colour, big head that fades quickly.

Tastes flat and a bit bitter. Bitter enough after taste. Didn't enjoy it at all. I have drink it before and thought it was ok. this time, not so much.

    5/10

    Ename triple, 8.5 ABV

    enametriple.jpg

Pours a lightly amber colour with a good head. Tastes sharp, mildly fruity, Not a bad after taste and not overly carbonated. Standard enough Triple.

I thought it was alright, would chance it again.

    6/10

Was very thirsty after a lovely day in Phoenix Park so stopped into Sweeney's on the way home.

Very thirsty so played it safe with a few O'Hara's Pale Ale & one Leann Follain which I'll keep for tomorrow I reckon

I finally tried 8 Degrees Kindred Spirit. Did not disappoint.

Was gonna go for Shepherd Neame, 2xIPA & 1xDouble Stout. 3 for €9.50

Left it for another night. Are they worth drinking?

Very plain IPA, but the Double Stout is fairly well celebrated on this thread, with good reason!

1 x IPA (to taste), 2 x Double Stout it is then good sir! Next time I'm in will probably be next Friday

    Cheers

That's quite a good price, too, I think I usually pay about 3.60 for a bottle on it's own.

Not sure what a "single" is but they're doing 3 for €9.50

Sweeney's prices are a little, ahem, pricey but their "3 for €X" offers are just about tolerable

Porterhouse Celebration Stout 7%. Very pleasant. Oats, slight chocolate, caramel, smooth, sweet. Lovely!

Had a Dungarvan Rye Pale ale on cask in Phil Grimes, really enjoyed it. Had a bottle previously and hadn't liked it at all.
