I have to say I am pretty unaware of American beers. There are just so many beers and so little time :p. Will be using this forum more, that is for sure :D

Yeh this forum is a great way to weed out a lot of the crap and get down to the good stuff the brekle brown is good, a little odd as its quite a heavy malty beer, lots of biscuit, caramel and a touch of coffee with a big citrusy bitterness kick, it works but it's different.

    Delirium Red. 8.0% Vol.

    deliriumred.jpg

Dark beer, almost smells like wine. No signification head upon pouring.

Very fruity taste but not over bearing like other fruit based beers. Slight after taste but certainly not unpleasant. Has a really nice balance.

Not a big fan of fruity beers but this is defo the best of what I have tasted. Most taste like marzipan.

    6/10.

Posted this else where but it may be of interest.

Palm beer, It is an amber beer, kinda mid way between blonde and brown. It is 5.4% and is a lovely transition beer to go up the colours. Check out their niffty website in the link.

I like this beer and have drank a fair bit of it. Cost about 75c for a 33cl can.

    Worth it and would recommend.

    Next up is N'ice Chouffe

. A lot of Belgian breweries bring out a Winter/Christmas beer and this is one of them. It is a strong dark beer, 10% and full of flavour. Unlike the other high alcohol content beers, it doesn't leave a strong after taste.

    beers062.jpg

In a bar it cost around €3 for a 33cl glass, it can only be got in draught and 750ml bottles.

N'ice Chouffe is a drink I would have before a session but I couldn't see myself drinking it all night. That said, it is a nice treat and is only available for a limited time per year, so that gives it extra points in my book. Think Cadbury's Creme egg, back in the day, when you'd eat as many as possible in the few weeks they were around tongue.png

    7/10

Next up is Hopus. It is a Blonde beer 8.3%. It is strong to the taste and very flavoured.Costs about €3.50 for a 33cl bottle in a bar. How ever about it's taste, it's all about how it is served.

We walk into a bar, wall to wall with fridges. My mate recommends I try it so I order it. We are told to sit and the bar lady drops them over, she cracks open the bottle with a loud pop and pours the beer with earnest, The very last few drops of the bottle is the yeast sediment.Which is then poured into a shot glass. You can knock it back, or normally you pour it into your glass to strengthen the beer.

I enjoyed the whole ritual of it.

Good taste, nice ceremony. Enjoyable package.

    9/10

I had one in the Porter House a couple of weeks ago. No feckin Hopus Glass and no shot glass and it cost an arm and a leg. I did voice my compliant and was basically told to GTFO :p. If you want to charge big money for a drink, at least pour it properly a la Guinness.

    I think I have become a beer snob :/

    Nice.

Have to try one more beer just to wash the fruit taste from my mouth. Thinking something dark.

    La Guillotine 8.5% Vol.

    laguillotine.jpg

Dark amber beer, good head. Smells subtle. Tastes lovely, has a sharp after taste. Kinda bitter but in a nice smooth way.

Would I drink it all night? Probably.

If you can get it, do. But don't pay big money for it.

Been living in Brussels the last year. Move on soon to wine country.

    I don't like wine :(

I mainly drink Leffe Blonde and Leffe Royal.

Where in the name of sweet baby Jesus, did you find Delirium Red?

    Edit: Ah Brussels!

It won't strengthen the beer. I think the whole Hopus ritual is a bit silly, like most beer pouring rituals. Not that there's anything wrong with a bit of silliness now and then.

Was thinking the same myself, unless of course in this case 'strength' refers to flavour, i.e. more yeasty

What's the general consensus about Delirium Tremens?

I remember trying it when I was 18 or 19 and hating it, but all I could drink at that stage was Bulmers anyway. :o

It's not a bad beer just an over rated beer selling on its iconic bottle rather than the quality of the beer. Many people love it, I find it a bit sugary.

If you find Duvel expensive maybe you should stay away from American craft brews!

Oakham Ales Citra. Starting to think these guys can do no wrong. Gorgeous beer.

Also had the Inferno last night. Solid enough beer, although probably not as nice as the others I've tried. I think it says on the bottle that it has a combination of 5 different Hops. That amount of different Hop varieties always tends to come out a bit muddled in my experience, which did seem to be the case in this instance.

Still got the JHB to go out of the 5 that I bought. It's a bitter, so not sure it'll live up to the rest (from a personal preference pov).

I really liked that too - so did Mrs Beer and she doesn't like too many beers.
    Lovely elder flowery summery quencher!
Not tried any other's though... yet.

They have a good selection. Makes me want to go out and buy more beers I haven't tried.

I may need to unsub to this thread during the day time :p

I find Duvel decent enough in price alright, €2.70 a bottle in Cork and it's 8.5%. Given the deliciousness, I find it reasonable :D

2 year old "reserve" cider by Tempted?

Very smooth, and you can't buy it in the shops!
