Steering wheel trim had a few scratches and scuffs on it so took it off and repainted it today. The scratches were so small they were nearly invisible but they were driving me mad, serious new car OCD kicking in.

Few coats of silver, few more of lacquer and back on the wheel this evening.

    After the first 2 coats

Well I am absolutely knackered. I spent the whole day today washing, detaring, claying, polishing and sealing my dads Porsche 928. It would have been a lot less work if he was into detailing but he only ever washes it...

Anyway, here it is when I started

    573C53FC6C1E48108241A5DC5B6948C8-0000363222-0003267232-01024L-41D1D5C4A1E34415AC59D7296A203E10.jpg

    94C0D4F78A4541EE97370FCF64EDBB18-0000363222-0003267231-01024L-F3249543BB3443FD94048AE1193EA578.jpg

The beading left a lot to be desired :pac:

    333847D2CCF54B419178993D991FBD42-0000363222-0003267229-01024L-9DEC7DDACFAC4BD38D52DB714590D3CF.jpg

I did the wash, detar and clay and then pulled it into the garage and started the polishing

    Before
    30B3F5D6F8774662A93446B6175E2DEB-0000363222-0003267228-01024L-16C1E816790D4CF2A6741E1C31753C16.jpg

    After
    02810E5700AB4E15AFBB6EFFE214AD54-0000363222-0003267227-01024L-B172233EAD634C259E056D27EB34A38C.jpg

The after is taken at a different angle but considering it was done by hand I think it looks well :)
I didn't pull it back out for after photos and I still have to do the wheels and interior. The plan is to get it looking well and sell it on to get a new toy :D. So if anyone is interested in buying....:pac::p

    Image678.jpg

    Image679.jpg

The eagle eyed might cop how new this clutch is.... ;)

Struts, rack disconnected. Almost ready to drop the frame
    Image680.jpg

    Then light beat me!

Shimming finished, all assembled and placed on the block :) 22 bolts!!!
    Image681.jpg

You know it's a serious piece of kit when it slices your finger on the edge

I'm changing to Bilstein B8's and the Eibach Pro-Kit. I didn't buy any other parts.

Should I also be changing the strut bearings and mounts or anything else?

A wheely generic update..... Sorry :o

Crappy tyres and scruffy wheels.... Driving me mad!

To get the jack to fit....
    Image684.jpg

    Mystery jizm
    Image685.jpg

All I can say is..... Wow
    Image686.jpg

Moving to the Kormoran on the right... The only way to change and balance tyres here for now is the pikey way :pac:
    Image688.jpg

    Avec la....
    Image689.jpg

    Halfway sanded
    Image690.jpg

Sprayed in some Peugeot colourless silver!
    Image691.jpg

Somewhat newish tyre fitted and pikey balanced :p
    Image692.jpg

A sort of before and after...
    Image693.jpg

    Fitted and tyre shine applied
    Image694.jpg

Tail pipe looks much better since it sobered up!
    Image695.jpg

So that's 2 much better tyres on somewhat fresh looking rims. Balance worked a treat. Just need to pikey track it and wahey! :D

Looks miles better  and the tyres couldn't be worse than what was on it:p

Can I ask how you balance them?

Went at the coolant focus leak today not really expecting too fix it. But I went through and the pipes and found that the coolant return pipe was leaking at the end connected to the top of radiator. Cut the end of the pipe luckily it had split near the end. Put the pipe back on it put a new clip on it. Then I went to halfords and got pink coolant which is what is in it. Topped it up it took about 1/2 a litre. And no more leak. At least I didn't have to take it to the mechanic this time.

In fairness, while it's causing you a fair bit of grief... you could easily sell it, buy another and end up right back at the start again... And I'd say that happens regularly enough with the way cars are kept in Ireland.

I'd say you've tackled all the common faults at this stage. Best of luck with her.

It's the truth. It's hard to know as a car may appear very well minded and still end up causing issues. And it's even harder to get clean car vans because 95% of them are treated like vans and just dogged. Tbh if the issues don't keep happening as often the cheapest option is to keep the focus for the 4 years I intended and at that stage I won't care less what its worth as it will have paid for itself at that stage in my eyes as ill have got 4 years out of it. Anyway if I do hold I onto it after 4 years ill know so much more about car mechanics :pac:

Not much, but I stripped out the worst wiring of a bluetooth set ive seen from my girlfriends mini (it was cutting in and out to her radio, and she was never gonna use it). Whoever installed it originally didnt use a splitter to wire it up, they just chopped up wires and twisted them together.

Im gonna use the microphone and display to complete my Parrot BT set (whoever owned my car before me cut the mic and display wires). Did the microphone this evening so I just need to either find a home for the display, or bury it somewhere and keep the dash clean.

Prepped the belt line plastics of the car for wrapping. Hoping for a delivery tomorrow. Chickened out of taking off the instrument cluster surround. A bit of googling just said to grow a pair and pull it off.

I drove the bejaysis out of mine today..... So much so that one of my tyres had enough and decided to try make a break for it, just a pity it happened at a high speed chicane! Think I've bent something in the suspension but nothing major

Took the dash out of my E36, almost have the black interior swapped in now - a very straightforward job to be honest. What won't be straightforward is sorting out the wiring mess I left in place from the 6 button OBC and heated seats install :D

Have the 18 button OBC ready to go in, as well as check control - will be taking my time with it, theres a significant amount of wiring to be done.

Very hard to say, I'm trying to work out pricing at the moment. There is a 928 S2 on DD for €10,000. Ours is a GTS which is the last addition of the 928 and by far the best, However the tax is killer and although it is the same on the S2 for now it'll get classic tax in 2 years and ours will not.
There are no other GTSs for sale in Ireland that I can find at the moment but in the UK similar cars with similar milage and history are advertised for between £13,000 and £19,000.

What car have you got? Mine was a '98 and all original stuff so that's why I put new top shock mounts on, bearings were fine.
