    Commons retires from International Football

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22620011

No transfer speculation on his future because he's anchored in Glasgow :D

Im delighted that his reason is he wants to focus on playing for Celtic & family. I think he can top this season, despite it easily being his best of his career, if he works as hard as he has been doing for the past year. I didnt think much of his transfer when he arrived at the club but he's definitely proved himself.

Someone employed by the club. Cup final will be his last game. Premiership bound. 3 clubs already enquired and 2 willing to meet club's valuation.

    Don't shoot the messenger.

I'll post the source later once the transfer news omes out but was told last night in London.

And you can joke huddleboard etc but this is someone from the club.

Did the someone employed by the club say what the club's valuation was? Did you have cod for dinner there in London last night?

Your not a journalist, you dont have to protect your sources

If its nailed on, whats the difference whether you post the the source now or later? If your source is leaking information, then you can be guaranteed that you are not the only person they told.

Firstly I don't think Wanyama will be leaving this summer. But if he does it won't be for anything less then the mid teens I would think.

If we get offered £8m he'll be off imo

Has to be over £10m given his age & current contract i think otherwise we can wait until 1 year left on his contract and still get alot of money for him if he wants to leave.

Wanyama fits the identikit of the modern day midfielder. Dynamic, athletic, good on the ball, can tackle, can hold the ball, score goals, proven at Champions League level. He has the potential to operate in the same space as players like Yaya Toure. Despite the fact that he has been playing in the SPL and the SPL isn't rated, his CL experience, youth and current contract status at Celtic makes him worth a hell of a lot more than 8 million. If he goes I'd say it will be minimum 12 million, possibly 15 million.

I wasnt saying what he was worth, just what i think we'll get for him if he goes now, i'm wrong hopefully.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is free to take his place in the dugout for this weekend's Scottish Cup final against Hibernian.

Lennon has been given a suspended one-match ban for entering the "playing zone" during April's defeat by Motherwell.

Under the terms of his previous ban, he was not permitted in the zone within 15 minutes of the final whistle.

Celtic are aiming to secure a league and cup double at Hampden on Sunday.

The Scottish FA said: "Mr Lennon was found in breach, with a one-match suspension applied. The tribunal suspended the sanction until the end of season 2013-14 and to take effect in the event that Mr Lennon is found in breach of rule 205 within that period."

How many suspended sanctions are hanging over him now?

I think this is it as his last suspension was him serving a 3 match suspended ban from the previous season.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that he tried to stop striker Kris Commons from retiring from international football.
"I tried to talk him out of it, obviously. I think he has a lot to offer still but I respect his decision.

"I mean, it is great for me and Celtic that we have a player who won't be travelling with his country and who will be fresh to play for his club but at 29 he still has plenty to offer."

Interesting that Lennon tried to talk him out of retiring from International Football.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22659361
"The last two games the team has looked powerful and in the mood. Great intensity and I hope they take that into Sunday,"

"Our previous two games have been fantastic, they've looked really hungry," he said. "But that was the same before the League Cup semi-final.

"They have to concentrate on the game and blank the crowd out, which is something we've worked on in Champions League matches."

"We've had some difficult games along the way, made seven semi-finals and four finals so our run in the cups has been consistent," he insisted.

"I played in plenty cup finals but to take my team out in another is very special."

"We've won the league and we've progressed spectacularly well in Europe," he said. "This game is a nice bonus for us at the end of the season.

"We've had a terrific season, and it would be a nice way to finish it off."

The Nothern Irishman described the absence of Hibernian defender James McPake through injury as a boost for his side.

"He's the captain and I think he's made a big difference to Hibs over the past two seasons," said Lennon.

"I'm sure it'll damage Hibs more than it'll damage us, he'll be a big loss to them I'm sure.

Lennon also insisted there was equal pressure on both sides, despite his team being favourites to lift the trophy.

"There's pressure on both teams, it's a cup final and there's a trophy to be won," he said.

"I suppose we're heavy favourites going into the game, but it's all on the day - as we've seen before."

Hope we hit the ground running but its Hampden, the air in there makes us drowsy!

Commons retirement is great news for us, he has become a very important player for us and is one of the few we have that can create chances when we're up against teams happy to pack the defence.
I doubt Lennon tried too hard to persuade him.

Really looking forward to Sundays game now, have a feeling it'll be a great game.

You are spot on about Commons I'm also very much looking forward to the 'Irish' cup final.

Make mine a double. Oh Hampden in the sun, great day out yesterday and a joy to see so many happy faces adding yet more silverware to the trophy room. I love supporting Celtic, they mean so much more to me than just being a fan. i don't care who you are, what religion or sexuality you are, where you're from or what you've done in the past. I take you as I find you and to me I can't really go wrong in that.

Come on The Hoops, hope the summer doesn't drag on too long, am looking forward to the new season already. I might even join the Achill Islam CSC

What a fantastic day yesterday was. I am still on a high from it all. Not as slick a performance as the last 2 league games but dominant nonethless with some very good performances throughout the team. A well deserved Man of the Match award for Stokes as well. A perfect end to what has been just a brilliant season.

I'm hearing we've signed Alexander Tonev from Posnan for £2million

I'm hearing we've signed Alexander Tonev from Posnan for £2million

This from the Record this morning:
    http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-set-clinch-deal-bulgarian-1917085
CELTIC are closing in on the capture of Aleksandar Tonev after agreeing a £2million deal with the player's Polish club, Lech Poznan.

The Bulgarian winger, who has 11 caps, is on Neil Lennon’s wanted list ahead of another crack at the Champions League.

The Celtic gaffer will this week hold crunch talks with chief executive Peter Lawwell and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.

Lennon will hope to thrash out a new deal for himself while the futures of players such as Gary Hooper will also feature prominently.

He’s also keen to add to his squad and Record Sport understands a deal for Tonev has been agreed with Lech.

Lazio, Fiorentina and Malaga are also interested in the 23-year-old but Tonev has spoken openly about his desire to move to Parkhead.

He said: “It’s important I consistently play Champions League football, Celtic is somewhere I could achieve that.”

Lennon’s only problem may come if the player’s head is turned by talk of a move to Germany.

In the last 48 hours interest from Werder Bremen has emerged and with the Bundesliga in strong shape at the moment, a firming up of their interest may tempt Tonev away.

Looking at youtube highlights of him (i know i know), looks like Kris Commons with abit more pace. Well worth £2m!

Seems a strange one to me if true given wide areas in midfield is one of the strengths of the team as it is now. We will see I guess if this is the usual MSM rubbish or there is actually truth to it.

I'm sure we were in for him before, maybe last year... the name is very familiar. Anyone remember if we were previously linked with him?

Your thinking of Maor Melikson of Wisla i reckon, we had a £1m bid rejected. We've been linked with Tonev since around December.

I'm not sure we are strong in wide areas, Forrest missed a lot of the season because of injury and wasn't great when he did play(due to the injuries), Commons imo is better through the middle and Sammy can do a job out wide especially in European games but isn't natural winger either.

I'd have a wide player as one of our priorities. I'd like to see some competition come in for Izzy too. After that we will be looking to replace any players that leave, Hooper, Wanyama etc

I'd agree that we lack width, especially a fast left footer. McCourt is gone, Forrest has glass hamstrings. Samaras has done well out wide left but another option is needed. Commons best position is behind the striker for me.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2331476/Florent-Malouda-Carlton-Cole-Vicente-Premier-League-Football-League-free-transfer-XI.html

Anyone there worth having? Florent Malouda could do a job for us. Berra is worth a look
