    Can I ask a question.....

If Tiger had been asked the same question and said we'll have him over every night and serve paella....would that be racist ?

I'm guessing no...Is fried chicken definitely racist and if so did Sergio definitely know that it was ? (I'm not asking here if his intent)

Tiger is a complete di*kwod..... poor me the victim..... lets not forget what this guy has really been like over the past 15 years.... failed to apologise after Players...marshalls wouldnt back up his story..... you have to admire his results and focus etc..he is "box office"..but seriously...

Sergio has done little wrong here...if Tiger didn't create the issue at Players or at least apologise the matter was closed but due to his lack of class he didn't.....

Sergio was stupid but these guys are answering 100s of questions and he was trying to be funny.... defo not a racist comment..some guys on here are just sergio bashing......

Tiger takes himself too seriously.... no class... win at all costs...yes he shud have withdrew once he broke the rules at Masters.....

get your facts right, marshalls DID back up his story.

True it was eventually backed up.
So Tiger didn't do a whole lot wrong except not be aware of what his playing was up to.
However this misunderstanding between tiger and the Marshall had a consequence ! And that was Garcia ended up in the trees because of it.
Certainly no blame can be placed on Garcias shoulders .
So the right thing to do is a simple apology and explanation to Garcia about the 'marshals 'mistake.
This fortnight of bickering and the media pushing Garcia for comments every minute , would then not have occurred !
If Tiger had been playing that same round with eg, His mate Rory, I guarantee he would have apologised there and then!!
And Garcia would have accepted the apology and moved on, csuse that's what you do when someone genuinely apologises for something - you accept it then move on! Not with the wounded tweet Tiger sent today!!!
He is loving seeing Garcia squirm and that from the world no1 is pathetic in my book.

You need to look at the facts in general...... above post from Alxmorgan is 100% right.......

Tiger's character and integrity has been shot to bits over the last 5 years...I hope he never catches jack's record....

    .

what a complete load of BS.

Garcia had SOOOOOO much time to re-prep himself. He hadn't even addressed the ball when the clapping and cheering started. That's fact

    gimme a break, honestly.

No love for Tiger but I think so posters on here need a reality check. Woods is the victim and doesn't need to play it. Certainly just because he's supposed to be a dick does not justify racial stereotypes being fired at him. It's not the first time it has occurred either.

Sergio has been yapping on for weeks about Tiger and IMO it was getting boring.
In any other sport, the governing bodies would be making an example of Sergio.

Sergio's remark was stupid, ill thought out and off the cuff. I don't believe for a second it was racist though.

Of course its racist. His mind went : Dinner - with Tiger - Tiger is black - Oh 'black', what else but fried chicken?
A racist stereotype. I am sure he is indeed sorry he said it - he didnt need the controversy. Probably even sorry he said it because he deliberately didnt mean to offend Tiger or blacks. But its racism nonetheless.

I give up - you really have got the Tiger Blinkers well and truly stuck fast!!
So - yeah he has by no means contributed to this situation and he is a shining light of righteousness for all to follow !!
Case closed im off to bed :0)

He's apologising because it could be construed as racist, that doesn't mean it actually was racist. Intent is a huge part of whether something is racist or not IMO.

Its still racist. That it was an off the cuff attempt at a quick quip, shows that unrehearsed, his instinct was a racial link when grasping for a line about Tiger.

Answer me one question, if you can.

Did Sergio have enough time to back off his shot, yes or no ?
If you don't respond, I'll know the answer.

Paella carries none of the racially derogatory overtones that fried chicken and black people does in the US.

Fcuk sake catch a grip would you; why would he apologise and be quoted as feeling completely sick at what he said?

Even if he had backed off his shot, the incident still caused him to do so and was off putting and deserved a short apology!!

You could say he's not Manuel so. ;)

Or is that racist, I'll apologies in a bit if there's a media storm.

Casual racism in Spain is a huge issue, especially among the middle classes - on a par with what you might hear in Irish clubhouses regarding travellers.

IMO Sergio let the mask slip and is getting off very lightly.

Yep, Lewis Hamilton was on the end of it and there has been many problems in La Liga. Then again according to some of the posters on here, they probably deserved it for being "dicks" and playing the victims.

Correct. They were on about it this morn on sky sports. It could have just been a complete accident, but the fact that Sergio spends so much time in the states, he'd be well aware of whole fried chicken racist slur.

Sergio this morn - he thought about pulling out but he feels "the tournament deserves to have me"

let's try to remain civil with each other here lads, don't want to start handing out infractions but will if the tone of some of these posts continues ...we are golfers , not footballers.

There is a difference between National stereotypes (Paella, Manuel etc.) and racism. However mentioning fried chicken, while almost certainly a racial reference, is about as mild as you can get on the racism scale. Sergio is an idiot and Tiger took advantage of the situation to have an extra dig at him while also attempting to be seen to take the high road "let's move on".

    Pair of tools.

This for me is where all of this gets blurry and a little grey.
Is it alright to make a crack about serving potatoes to Irish and paella to Spanish but not fried chicken ?
You can argue that Irish and Spanish are national whereas fried chicken is aimed at a specific group rather than a nation.

Is it ok to call someone a white pr**k but not ok to call them a black one ?
I'm never sure on this....as I say grey.

I'm not speaking about this incident specifically btw - enough said on that here - more of a general unease about what can and cannot be said.

What I will say is that Sergio may be a moaner but Woods should have done the correct thing originally when told he may have interfered with his shot - said I apologise if I in any way distracted him as that was not my intention. Rather than a cheap shot about moaning.

What grates here is that he number 1 golfer in the world and of our generation and seems to take little heed of the importance of that position in terms of setting a good example. He should look at his Ryder Cup captain if he wants an example of how to behave.

Honestly, life is short to be hung up on this stuff, none of us are either Tiger nor Sergio so pretty difficult to understand their intention/feelings regardless of "press" releases.

I doubt he meant to be racist obviously but we all know fried chicken is what is associated with what black people in the states eat.

    so what ? !

if he invited KJ Choi around for a curry would that be racist ?

    the world's gone mad
