What's his problem with Tiger ? Just listened to him again on Sky saying nobody likes Tiger and I'm the only one with balls to come out and say it ..... I used to like him but recently he's become a moaner , why can't he just concentrate on his own game . If he wanted to stick it up to Tiger he only had to par 17 and 18 in sawgrass , but he gulped.....

He just doesn't like him. He's honest about it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,890 ✭✭✭DuckSlice

It all started where they were in a one on one sponsors tournament and Sergio bet him and celebrated enthusiastically in front of tiger, tiger didn't like being made a show of! And Sergio has always been a moaner, he is a bottler aswell, I used to like him but not anymore!

Yeah I always had a soft spot for Sergio but once he came out and said he'd never win a major I knew his bottle was gone and that made me lose a lot of respect for him.
It comes across as though he's jealous of what Tiger has achieved and feels he should have had more of the spotlight.
He's never lived up to the potential he had when he burst onto the scene bar a few Ryder Cup rounds

I've no problem with him not liking him , he told the world that 2 weeks ago , but why is he coming out again today and saying its not just me that dosent like him there are lots that don't like him?

Think it's probably just that he thinks Tiger is a bit of knob. He was asked about it & answered the question honestly

Check the press conference - interesting quote:

"He called me a whiner. He's probably right," Garcia said Monday at Wentworth, England, at the start of the week of the BMW PGA Championship. "But that's also probably the first thing he's told you guys that's true in 15 years. I know what he's like. You guys are finding out."

    http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/sergio-garcia-says-he-not-afraid-tiger-woods

@extp - you used to like him but now you really don't like him because he's a bottler????? When did that change?

He has mental scar tissue since Harrington beat him at the Open (and USPGA). It's all Paddys fault!:pac:

He was asked about again and told the truth. Ya he is moaner but I'd prefer to play a round with him than Tiger. Never liked Tiger and never will.

Tiger and bubba are probably my favourite golfers! I think sergios problem is they both came on the scene at the same time both with massive potential, and tiger showed his potential and Sergio was in his shadow! He couldn't even win last weekend never mind a major!! Lovely swing tho!

Besides his golf Tiger not the best bloke in the world.

A bit sickening watching all the pros bow down to him. Now coming from Sergio a bit rich. Two of them in it.

If I had the choice of one round with either, it would have to be Sergio.

TW is the better golfer, but the lesser man.

Sergio is golfs biggest loser - hard to argue with that

    attention seeker too
    quite sad

Sergio apologises for what could be construed as a racist remark against tiger!!!!

When asked would he have tiger around for dinner sone night he replied "I'd have him around any night, we can make fried chicken"

I doubt he meant to be racist obviously but we all know fried chicken is what is associated with what black people in the states eat.

This is what happens when you talk too much Sergio. Eventually your mouth gets you in trouble!

It was probably a reference to the main course that Fuzzy Zoeller said Tiger would choose for his Champions Dinner at Augusta National.
**** storm ensued, followed by Zoeller apologising.

So this might be Sergio saying that Tiger can whine too !

Sergio has come out of the recent spat looking and sounding like a complete idiot.

You don't like the guy, we get it Sergio. How many times does he need to tell us?

i agree with you on sergio but not on Woods, the woods we see is focused on the job, nothing breaks his focus and thats why he comes across as a bo***cks and never smiling!.

Sergio has a nasty element to him> so does the other fella in my opinion. That's probably why they don't get on.

My only reference point for judging Garcia's personality is Harrington. He doesn't really like Padraig either and makes no secret of it. Now, Paddy is as quirky as a box of frogs but I can't imagine him being rude or obnoxious, so Sergio's dislike of Paddy (when he was winning majors) told me all I needed to know about Sergio.

If anything, his recent spat with Mr. Woods has redeemed him somewhat in my book :)

Weren't Sergio and Paddy friends though and at Carnoustie the story goes that Sergio said hello to him as they passed each other on a bridge over the burn and Paddy blanked him and Garcia, stupidly, got his knickers in a twist over that ?

Don't think he is just coming out and commenting on their relationship but it's the press lingering on the story trying to blow the whole thing out of proportion to sell newspapers .As Sergio said we just don't get on ,thats the way it is so lets move on.Don't think the press will though. They will keep trying to dig the heels in with this one.

Could be so. I dunno. I guess the point I was trying to make is that it seems to be easy enough to get on the wrong side of him. Being competitive doesn't excuse you from being a dick, so Paddy shouldn't have deliberately ignored a greeting.

While I wouldn't be a fan of either and I don't see them as great role models on or off the course
I'd have more admiration for tiger and his achievements in golf alone

On course they both have had their tantrums spitting etc but one is a proven winner on the big stage while the other was once top dog at Adidas and a potential challenger to tiger but has now become a bit of under achieving moaning self pitying biaatch

If they both stopped golfing tomorrow I'd imagine Sergio would be long forgotten before tiger

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,169 ✭✭✭rednik

Sergio was destined for majors at the start of his career by just about every pundit and the pressure on him over the years has been great. In my opinion he will never win one as his head is what will cost him in the end. Harrington won 3 because of his mental toughness which Sergio lacks.

Funny thing I remember on sky after Padraig won the US PGA, Tony Jacklin was asked would Sergio ever win a major and he replied, ' I can see him win 4 '. I thought this was a little dig at Padraig's 3 wins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 904 ✭✭✭realgolfgeek

I can see Sergio winning a Major to be honest.

Sergio and Tiger on the back 9 head to head next month would be good viewing !!

Not having a go at you, soundsham, but I think this quote nicely proves that Tiger's ad was right, winning takes care of everything - at least in some people's eyes.

Despite them both behaving like absolute twonks on the course at times, and you citing examples of their behaviour, you appear to have more admiration for Tiger, and seem to be giving him more credit cos he wins more?

A pair of children, I'll second the nomination to pair them together, they can be in the assh0le group at the US Open, USGA can add Vijay as a referee/bouncer. hopefully they can put eachother off:)

Of course its about winning. We dont care about them as people - they are remote sportsmen to us and we will never meet them or have a relationship with them (any of you cocktail waitresses out there might disagree of course).
We watch them for how they play the game - and its excellence that we marvel at. So we admire Tiger because he plays the game better than anyone else ever. Sergio is carcrash/reality TV sort of entertainment, but it is sad to see his frustration so openly on his own failure to achive what people expected him to.

For sure Tiger plays the game well, as for "better than anyone else ever" - meh, he's top 3 or 5.
Playing the game involves a lot more than mere scores. It would still be nice if they conducted themselves with a little bit of grace on occasion though, doesn't cost much to be polite.

I have always been a bit of a fan of Sergio, but I think he has shown himself to be a bit of a prat over this. That said, I think the journalists are hoping to create a scene and give them something to write about.....I think they should just write about the golf.

Do you think Sergio knew the expression was an emotive one in US.
He has spent years over there.

But I can't imagine he meant it in a racist way.
Spinning in media. Tiger adding to it with a tweet.

Tiger should not be pulling race card in a argument like that. Too serious for that.
They dont like each other. Get on with it.

I really can't see how anyone can have a pop at Woods or journalists over this 'spat'. To my mind its all about Sergio. He just can't keep his thoughts private and he should know better considering his experience.

Really disappointing from Sergio in my book. Tigers latest tweet and the way he's responded throughout has been dignified, whether you hate him or not.

In terms of admiring a golfer, to you it's only about winning?
Nothing about how they play the game and conduct themselves? Once there's a few excellent shots thrown in, anything else in terms of behaviour is ok?
Where do you draw the line, do you draw the line anywhere?
What's the worst trait you'd accept in a "winner"?

Tiger Woods -"The comment wasn't silly , it was wrong ,hurtful and clearly inappropriate"."The Players ended 2 weeks ago its time to move on"
If he genuinely felt this he would be the bigger person and not fan the flames further ,Garcia obviously didnt mean it in a racist manner he's just got a big mouth and spoke without thinking.

Woods is loving all this and if he could have just been a Gentleman (in the mould of other great golfers that have gone before him) and apologised for the misunderstanding that affected Garcia shot at the players in the first place,
rather than his "hes always moaning about something" comment this would have gone away weeks ago.

But no he's a big kid and now trying to come across all Judgemental and Righteous ,purely to twist the knife into Garcia -
Is Hugely rich coming from him and his track record and the way he conducts himself on the golf course!!

Great Golfer - Poor Human being imo.

p.s. Not Saying Garcia is a saint , just a bit daft with a big mouth.

Clearly there is a pair of them in it "hes always moaning about something" was a childish thing to say by Woods, if he truly had class he wouldnt have said that. You'd never get that from the true gents of the game.
