Different argument - an irish American in a colour context means someone who refuses to be called a ginger in the US. :p

Whenever I see the term Political Correctness being used in an online context......its usually a precursor to a bunch of racists, homophobes and misogynists giving vent to their discriminatory outlook.

Is that a multiple choice opinion or what?

Jesus if this day gets any worse...

I work in a fairly "rough" neighbourhood, and there was just myself and the cleaner here in the office, next thing there was a ferocious bang like a gun going off and I dived on the cleaner to get her down below the window.

She was already having a shít fit having thought a gun went off, but when I went to investigate, it turns out a gust of wind had just slammed the door shut!

    Scarlehhh :o :pac:

She could see I wasn't sure what she was referring to, so she continued-

"You're working in an all female environment, and you made reference to a certain part of the male anatomy when talking about the filing system we use here"...

Then it clicked! She was referring to the fact that at a meeting the previous day, the exact phrase I used was-

"I have a pain in my balls with all this paperwork!". I mean, yes, it really IS a pain in the balls, made worse yesterday then when she pointed out that I hadn't filled out a petty cash voucher for a pint of milk-

    ....

Should have said you had a pain in your hole :D

This thread is slowly descending into the 'how racist/sexist can I be and get away with it' thread. Whatever about some ridiculous PC terms, people just use it as an excuse to say whatever the hell they like without consequence.

I used to live with guy from the Caribbean who was pretty dark.

One day after a few drinks I asked him : so what are you then? Afro-Caribbean, African, African American? What's the correct terminology?

He looked at me kinda puzzled, went a bit quiet and said :

    No....dude....I'm black okay? Just black

    :D

Being an actual engineer, I hate this cheapening of the term. Places like Germnay and Italy have a protected status for using the title engineer in the same way as doctor.

    Also hate this exchange
    "I'm a mechanical engineer"
"Oh, so do you fix cars?"

Are you saying the mechanical engineer is really a mechanic or are you annoyed by the ignorance of the person thinking they are the same?

either way you are not a doctor.

I once worked for an American company where there was a story of two Cork lads on assignment in the US getting into hassle for a conversation that went something along the lines of "hows it going boy! What's the craic?".

HR folks of spectacularly low intelligence immediately assumed boy=racist southern term for a black man and craic = crack cocaine :(

The word brainstorm being banned from schools because its offensive to those with epilepsy.

The nursery rhyme being changed to "Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep", because saying black is racist.

Brown bag meeting? Brainstorming? Back when I was a lad we just had to put our thinking caps on.

The whole office lingo is annoying in general...touch base, in the loop, ball park...........w**kers language

blue sky scenario, going forward, nuances, once had the word "derogation" used in completely wrong context presumably because there was no fancy word in the sentence already.

Any commentary on maternity leave is competely un-pc. not against it but think it get fairly well abused

Apparently they're okay with kids taking acid, as long as they're not racist.

Actually there's one I'm only thinking of now- Do they still refer to it as a White Board in schools?

Just read the english on-line news here in Sweden, and some dude got a payout from a town council of just shy of 4K euro, because he refused to shake a womans hand, same dude was going for an internship for the towns intergration council.

Doubtful if the local pork producers will see much of the winnings.

Didnt some Midlands UK Council ban the use of the word Christmas?

Noddy no longer has a sidekick called Big Ears either as apparently it's bullying.

Surely the worst thing though is gender / racial quotas in employment. Imagine if you were the smartest black woman in the world yet everyone was smiling condesendingly at you assuming you were just their for compliance purposes.

ehh, yes...because it is a white board as opposed to a blackboard which is black.

I suspect a lot of schools etc use whiteboards now because of the dust that a blackboard creates, dust allergies and dust isn't great around computers.... plus you can use a whiteboard as a surface for a projector.

Nitty gritty is banned by some UK government departments because of its connections with slavery.
