    Thanks Folks !!

Anyone have a problem with the volume control off the remote?
Mine is connected, ie can change channel, but the volume +- has no effect. Neither does the mute even though it toggles on/off on screen.
Have sound via hdmi enabled and if I disable, the sound switches off altogether.

Have my Horizon box for 2 weeks now. Havent been upgraded to 50MB yet, rang twice last week and was told was in the middle of being switched over, but there is a problem with it. My UPC still showing old 25mb package. Anyone else having this issue?
Also the wifi reception is way worse than the old router, constantly dropping in the bedroom.

I seen somewhere on here that the Horizon box has no Volume / Mute function.
volume & mute is controlled throught your TV. I am asking here how to tune the Horizon remote to work the TV aswell. Sounds like this is what you will need to do aswell.

I got the new Horizon box last Wednesday and have had nothing but problems ever since!!!!!!! I tried installing it and got an error 1090. Rang UPC and was told to plug it out and plug it back in in 20 mins. I left it about an hour and I got the same error! Rang them back and was told that there was a bug with the box but the internet and phone were working and I could plug in my old HD box and they would switch that back on. The manager I was speaking to told me he would ring me back in 20 mins to make sure everything was alright. An hour later, no phone call, no tv and no internet. Rang back and was told that the tv was in the process of being switched back on. Left it overnight and checked when I came home from work the next day. Still no tv or internet!!! Rang again, they switched back on the tv but never gave me my Sky sports package or HD package and got the usual line of "switch the modem off for 20 mins" regarding my internet. left it an hour or so again, still nothing. Rang back yet again, was told the tech staff had gone home so internet couldnt be fixed. Didnt do anything the following day and then the following morning rang back, got my internet fixed and my sky sports back but still no HD!! Had I known it was going to be this much trouble I never would have signed up in the first place! Has anyone else had a similiar experience???? Anyone know what the error 1090 is or if it will be fixed?????

Go to the Talk To UPC Forum and asks one of the Reps to get someone to look into this issue for you.

Lads stop getting so annoyed that stuff isn't working. This is a limited trial of a beta box with beta software, you realise that we're all testing this for them and that there are bound to be bugs and things that don't work yes?

That's why you're being compensated €102 for your trouble.

I think the last poster is a bit miffed at the support he is getting and the promises that were not kept in relation to callbacks.
That's not a "beta product" issue, its a generally customer service issue.

As for bugs and beta software, this device has been in test for at least 12 months in Holland and Switzerland, from what I can tell, and the same issues that were flagged there are cropping up here as well..........

In fairness to some of the lads here, they can't even get the Horizon system up and running to take part in the trial !! the volume / mute / recording issues I will agree with you on, this is what a trial is all about, but the minimum you should expect is access to the trial you are taking part in, do you agree?

The user manual is here http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/content/dam/www-upc-cablecom-ch/Support/manuals/en/hrz/upc-horizon-user-manual.pdf

TV codes are from page 88 onwards.

Was getting pissed off with the box becomming unresponsive and freezing, recordings sometimes not available with all became worse on Friday and Sat, however someone on Sunday it was alot more fluid. Hope this isn't intermittent.

I don't have any problems with the new box that isnt working, these things happen when something new is on trial but when it takes 3 days to get my old services that I'm paying for back, that gets me miffed!

Got the box last week and am overall enjoying it. I'd be happy to be using it now even without the reward for taking part in the trial. Pros and Cons as I've experienced them are:

    Pros
Upgraded Internet (was on 30Mbps, now on 50).
More stations than I had - e.g. Eurosport, Nat Geo. These are two that I'm particularly happy with.
Very nice interface on the box - much slicker than the old one.
Twonky - for streaming content from my PC - is brilliant. I'd nearly consider this the killer app on my new setup.
I've had no WiFi problems (but haven't tested thoroughly around the house) so now I have probably one less device knocking around my house.
Search function for looking for programs is great.

    Cons
The interface nearly has too many options, but I think that will just be a matter of getting used to it.
The channel menu loads much quicker but scrolls a bit more haphazardly. Page-up and page-down would be nice (though that might be there and we just haven't spotted it yet.
Space-bar issue in the search box. I'll live with it though - being smart with search terms helps.

Regarding an above message, I also had a 1090 message (I think) initially. I thought the connection of the new coax cable didn't feel good so it came up perfect when I went back to my old cable. The wall box is old, so I'd say that was the problem.

Anyone tried streaming from the laptop to the tv? My horizon box is connected with the network fine as I can browse the movies on my laptop but when I try to play them I get either "can't connect to hard drive" or "the file is no longer available".

    Any idea?

Are you using Twonky? The guide gives a link to a UPC page that didn't exist when I tried it, so I downloaded it myself. It installed and worked fine with a 30 day trial. Having read something here, I phoned UPC and after being connected to one or two people they gave me a serial number which made it more permanent.

I downloaded the Windows version from here and phoned UPC who gave me a serial number for it when I explained that the link in the guide didn't work and I downloaded it from the Twonky site.

Getting the run around at the moment with the install date. Was meant to be last week, cancelled due to supply problems, fair enough, was meant to be today, no call. Following up with email now.

    Hi Guys,

I went with the default install and the horizon box is my modem / wireless router.

Would anyone know how i can use my old router (TP-LINK 1043ND) as a switch to gain the 3 extra ports. Is it simply a matter of taking a connection from my horizon box to the router, should i plug the network cable into the WAN or one of the 4 ports.

I need the extra ports for blu-ray, receiver etc.

    Cheers,

Would seem to be your TV, or do you have a receiver?

Think I have the same problem. Watching something, and the audio cuts for maybe .5 sec, then comes back. Could happen 2 times in a minute, could be fine for 2-3 minutes.
Tried different hdmi cable, tried removeing av receiver from equation and hooked it straight up to TV. Tried disabling ac3 output.

Was on to UPC about it, they seemed to think it was just me, and asked me to reboot box ;(

    Tv not using receiver
both scart and hdmi is causing audio drop outs
sorted for now on different hdmi input I also changed video output to not automatic this looks as if it was the problem don't have it as automatic use RGB OR YCbCr 4:2:2
not my normal tv testing on
as my main one is a Panasonic plasma which I will have back next week hopefully wont be any problems on the Panasonic when I get it back
