Had a pint of Wind Jammer on cask in Salt House last night, tis lovely.

I tried this on cask at the WJ Kavanaghs real ale launch night a couple of summers ago. A great beer - I had never tried anything like it!

Birthday today so bringing out the big guns.
Torn between a To Ol, Westvleteren 12 or a Trappistes Rochefort 10.

Fyne Ales Sanda Blonde IPA kinda reminded me of Helvick Gold but lighter.

Having a bottle of Kindred Spirit. Nice beer but its extremely thin for the style.

Is it labelled a porter or a stout? I can't remember.

to my mind, a porter can be as thin as a lager in mouthfeel, and a stout needs to be a bit more syrupy.

    Its labelled Stout.
That said I find leann folain to have the same texture.

Yeah, it's labelled stout. In fairness though, it did seem less thin once it warmed a little, and the bottle does say best served at 8 degrees (ha! I'm copping what they did there!).

I was a good effort, and the whiskey comes through nicely but I would've preferred if it had a little more body.

Tonight I had a longhammer IPA by red hook. Taste and aroma wise nothin to write home about but a great mouthfeel.

Followed it up with a mikkeller nelson sauvignon, sweet baby Jesus that was good.

Two by Oakham Ales tonight. Bishops Farewell and Scarlet Macaw. Cracking beers. The BF is very similar in style and taste to St. Austells Proper Job or Tribute. The SM is a copper tinged ale that tastes like a less in your face Punk IPA.

Looking forward to trying the other 3 I have from their range.

Had a bottle of International Arms Race(Flying Dog/Brewdog collaboration). Quite enjoyed it. Wasnt blow away, but at €2.99 it's good. I liked it more than the Mikeler Brewdog one, I'd say.

Which one did you have, the brew dog or the flying dog one?

They didn't make one beer together, they each made a separate beer.

Dungarvan black rock stout, o'haras pale ale washed down with a westmalle dubbel. Nice.

Oh, ok. Looks like the Flying Dog one.

Now I'll have to try the other to see who won.

    Trust me on this one.

    Flying Dog won.

The FD brew is, er, weird, but worth trying, wouldn't drink more than a glass of it though.

The brewdog brew is bloody rancid.

I was over in London visiting a friend and I had Doom Bar, a very nice ale. It was in the UCL student bar so must pretty popular, I must say I really enjoyed it.

I'd imagine so. Some of Brewdog's experiments don't seem to work out well at all.

Actually, I'm surprised to see BrewDog / Mikkeller I Hardcore You do so well on Ratebeer at 97. I might try it again sometime, but I did not taste a well balanced beer with the bottle I had.

Carrig Rowers Red Ale had this on draught last night. Not a bad beer but I thought it was quite sweet.
    Slight hop kick too.

The Flying Dog International Arms Race is atrocious.

Theres a new one from Widmer available in good off-licences here, Citra Blonde. Looking forward to trying it tonight.

The brewdog version is undrinkable. It's actually the most off putting beer I've ever drank.

I didn't think the Flying Dog one was atrocious. Just nothing that sparked my interest. Thought it would be spicier and a bit more bitter. Not the worst.

Having a Shepherds Neame Double Stout. Still one of my favourite stouts, even if it's not Irish ;)

Lovely stout, no idea what the "double" is there for though, much the same as the Hook Norton "Double" stout (also lovely).

I haven't tried the Hook Norton one, but their Twelve Days Ale is a favourite of mine, so I'll keep my eye out for it.
