Has anyone got a Nook from Argos UK?

My Nook has just arrived in Belfast. Placed the order with Argos UK on 14/5. Got it for £29.

I started with Littlewoods on 5/5 but cancelled. Then placed an order with Flubit on 7/5 and that was cancelled.

Even though Argos said they had stock available for delivery using PM postcode, the first 3 attempts failed - even though a PayPal transaction was created. 4th attempt worked.

I am delighted as I got this as a birthday present for my Godson/Nephew. (Thanks OP.)

With Argos keep checking the website - you might be lucky like me.

Got a text from home to say both my Nook's have arrived. But Apparently they pushed them through the letterbox so they would have fallen onto a hard tile floor.

Hope that doesn't mean that after all this they are damaged. :(

They are well packaged in foam in the box so don't worry :)

Hurrah, it's here! Mine was hanging out of the letterbox by a corner, otherwise it'd have hit a tiled floor too. Was expecting to have to sign for it

just a heads up for anyone looking to use this as its meant to be used!

got an email from Barnes and Noble after trying to subscribe to some magazines using my irish card:
Only customers using a Great Britain credit card with a matching Great Britain billing address are able to purchase NOOK Books and NOOK Apps on the Barnes & Noble website out of the country at this time. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Under €50 generally doesn't need to be signed for. Hence they get a lot of people claiming never to have received it and have no choice but to refund them.

Available on Ebay UK for £39 (€42ish) delivered to Parcel Motel if anyone is looking and willing to pay the extra €10 altogether.

    EBAY UK

Also available on Ebay Ireland for €80........... :pac: Good luck. Kindle is around that price, isn't that why Fire Sale is on? B&N couldn't sell it for that..

Got my nook yesterday, is there any way to buy books for it in Ireland or does it have to be rooted??? It's for a 10year old, I just want to put some kids books on it for him :(

ePub format is compatible with the Nook. If you read back in this thread (a page or two back) there are links to sites where you can get these and a suggestion as to software you can use to add books to the Nook/convert formats if necessary. You don't need to root it.

Has anyone else noticed quite a lot of ghosting on the Nook? Definitely seems to be a lot more than on my old kindle keyboard and the screen seems a bit fuzzier too.

Not really sure I'm too enamoured with this ereader versus the Kindle. Navigation seems a bit clunky too. :(

Yeh, noticed that but mainly on start up. Only happens on the odd page and its very very light at that.
On a separate issue how do I delete a book from my library? I want to get rid of some I downloaded, can't seem to do it. Even went into ES File Explorer, deleted it there but it's still in library.

This is my 1st ereader and I think it's great so far. I wouldn't have imagined so before, but it's actually more comfortable than reading a book.

Yeh I think its a great little machine

Was just wondering, would rooting it be akin to jail breaking?

Also what is this ghosting people have referred to - first time ereader user so may not be up to scratch on the lingo :D

I'm actually hesitant to dwell on it too much here because it's the kind of thing that you may not notice unless you are looking for it and I don't really want to point out something that some people may not have noticed.

But, basically, it is when you see the faint outline of a previous page on the page that you are reading. It can happen with these e-ink devices and I have seen it happen on my old Kindle occasionally but it seems to happen a lot more frequently on my Nook. And it's wrecking my head! :o

The nook refreshed every 6 pages instead of every other page, the benefit is much longer battery life, the downside is barely noticeable ghosting.

If you root it you can change the refresh rate.

Nice. I was going to root just to have a browser/mail client for travelling, but that'll do nicely instead.

I noticed more ghosting in the sun the other day compared to reading indoors. Apart from that it was fine, I wouldn't call it fuzzy. It is the same screen as most of the recent Kindles and also the Kobo.

Ghosting is just a part of E Ink technology, some people will complain about ghosting and others will complain about too many full page refreshes. They can't really win. They set the Nook at full refresh every 6 pages which is fine for me.
