Anyone else experiencing some programs not displaying in widescreen, for example I am watching the Simpsons now on rte 2 but it displays a black box on each side like its 4:3 or something but as soon as the ads come on its back to 16:9

There are Stretch and Zoom settings in the Settings menu somewhere, prob in Audio / Video (sorry can't remember), try both and see which you prefer. I have mine on Stretch. The Horizon box is currently displaying the video in it's intended format.

Got my Horizon box yesterday. Loving it so far.
Having problems with Wireless in the attic room though, didn't have a problem on the old setup.

Weird thing today, the PC in the living room is connected to the Horizon box via Ethernet and getting speeds of 158Mb. The network name is UPCxxxxxxx.
Today connected my work laptop via Ethernet, but the network name is "Network6" on that and it's only getting speeds of 9Mb. Always used to connect work laptop via Ethernet on the old setup and the UPC SSID was always correct.

Tried to set up some future recordings, I'll have to see how that goes because when I go into the "My Horizon Planner" they're showing on the wrong days (Had them all set up for Thursday night on E4 and now I'm showing them set for Tue/Wed/Thur).

No freezes so far and Caller ID is working.

Twonky can be a bit temperamental for me. Sometimes the Horizon box sees my iPhone, and if I turn the iPhone off, when turning it back on and going into Twonky, the Horizon box doesn't see it.

Damn. Modem was disabled today :pac:
Was setup using the horizon box pretty quickly. Just a quick subnet change and I was up and running perfectly.
Working great so far >_> (please dont jinx it. Please dont jinx it)

    What?

As in the pre-Horizon setup, when my work laptop was connected via Ethernet to the Cisco modem, the SSID was the same as on the bottom of the modem.

Mine had no wrapping or remote !!!
The boxes really need tab/tamper seals as well as the shrink wrap. Saw how the boxes should look in the DPD depot when I had them hunting for the remote, to no avail.

Hence no telly as Cisco box was disabled once DPD synced.

Tried my samsung remotes for my tv in vain hope, now no net
    Now hotspotting off my phone.

On delivery the plastic around the box was all ripped open.
Did anyone else's box arrive in this condition?

Anyone know if it's possible to plug a USB stick in and use the media browser to play files off it?

Ah thanks for the info. It's a shame. I've 1tb of video on a hard drive that I would've liked to be able to play through it.

Kind of. There was a big slash on a few sides in the plastic but the plastic wrapping is very thin.

After broadband being disabled on friday night (no internet all weekend, tv was still working), made 4 calls on saturday, only to be assured each time that it'd be fixed within an hour or two. The customer support team didn't want to know. Nope. Was told I'd know when all was transferred when tv channels went on the HD box.

Monday morning call to UPC to be once again assured that it'll be working by that afternoon. Monday after work, still no broadband but still had tv on hd box. Plugged in Horizon box and low and behold setup went like a breeze. Setup took 15mins.

A few things. Setting up favourites, the images for the channel names can be jumbled. Sky 1 is TG4 etc. Only a few like this. Needs a better now and next. The menu is not transparent when choosing it to be. Happy to have the old router and modem gone. Nice and tidy.

Incidently, was rang by UPC later monday night and offered a disount on my previous package, until he realized we had Horizon and then he promptly said nothing he can do and hung up.

Anyone else having issues with On Demand content having two episode numbers? Also found that some episodes were missing from a series, but exist elsewhere on the box when found using keyword search. Dr. Who is an example.

    Horizon box installed.
Broadband still at 30mb not 50mb.

Has the ability to access the box from a PC been enabled yet?
As in can I connect from my PC and watch live/recorded tv off the Horizon box?
If so how do I access this? Going to the IP address of the box just brings up the settings.

Annoying that it skips over SD channels that I don't subscribe to but doesn't skip HD channels.

Anyone having hassle maintaing WiFi connection? For some reason it keeps dropping from my lappy but its solid as a rock on other devices connected at the same time. Lappy works fine on Ethernet.

    Thanks.

upc.ie/horizon page doesn't seem to exist, and it's not seeing my dlna server, other than that it seems to be working fine.
Oh, the DHCP client page has wrong info (e.g. my PC is showing as disconnected via Ethernet, when its connected via wireless)

Before I ordered the Horizon package I spoke to a Horizon team member who told me that everyone on the trial had to use the integrated modem in the Horizon box. I wasn’t happy with this as my existing TV box and modem are not close to each other in the house.

When I put in the order I accidently deleted the e-mail asking me for the card number of the HD box I was returning. I rang sales and spoke to a very nice sales person. She went through everything including cost etc and asked me was I happy. I explained that my current setup was not suited to having one consolidated box as the modem and phone connections were about 50 feet from the TV and would require an engineer to wire cat5/6 cabling if I had to use The Horizon Modem.

She understood my issue and said straight away that she would send out an unconsolidated box so that I could keep and use my existing modem and just use the Horizon box for tv. She also increased my broadband speed to 100mb while I was on the phone. ( I’m going to check the speed again tonight as I was only getting circa 80mb yesterday evening)

I am now awaiting the arrival of the box on Thursday and it will be interesting to see if my old modem remains active and if it works as ordered.
Despite what the Horizon team member told me initially the UPC website does sate that you can separate you tv and internet/phone services.

Reading this thread it appears that quite a few Boardies have received consolidated boxes and have had their old modems deactivated. I hope I’m not in the same boat on Thursday!

There's no need for a new box, it definitely depends on the person you get on the other phone. Rang up first, and I was told it simply couldn't be done, but I knew this wasn't the case after reading through this thread prior to ringing. Before installing I tried again, this time the Self-Install 1800 number. He said it could be done, but he wouldn't advise it. Set-up the box as usual, lost the signal on our modem, rang up the giving him the MAC Address of our modem and about 10 minutes later we got the signal back. Internet and Phone now disabled on the Horizon box, successfully coming through the old modem and all the Horizon Apps still seem to work. Happy Days :D

This has never been advertised as a feature in Holland or Switzerland wher e its been live for some time. You can view some live tv on the horizon.tv website but the only thing it shares with the box is a name and a MYUPC account.

Exact same problem here, keep loosing wifi on desk top but have never lost it on phone ipod or other devices. Also gave up trying to keep the xbox connected and have it connected with ethernet cable for the moment.

Can I ask those having problems did you set up your ssid the same as your old routers? So the connected devices just connect automatically?

I would test the theory of creating a new password or changing the name and password, or even forgetting the old ssid on your devices and re-set up.

Isn't that not via the Horizon.tv website though (which is available now to almost all UPC customers I though) as opposed to "directly from the box"

I can browse all the recordings on the horizon box, just cant get them to play as yet, possibly encrypted. Can see the files and tree structure.

For anybody who has the new HTC One, sense tv is now live in Ireland meaning we can hook the phone up to the box and have an interactive tv guide and remote control through the IR blaster. So you can find something you want to watch on the phone ui, press the button and the channel changes on the box. Quite impressive and nice layout for finding shows coming up etc. Handy if the remote control is on the other side of the room too! :-)

That's through www.horizon.tv, it has nothing to do with the actual horizon box itself.

you may have gotten lucky. heres a list of tvs that are having the problem with horizon....have a look at how many philips models seem to have a problem

    http://www.supportforum.philips.com/en/archive/index.php/t-8514.html

thing is my model isnt on that list so you can add the 42pfl7606h/12 to the list

What did the tech say to you when he couldn't fix the issue?
ive updated the software on the tv and no change, swapped hdmi cable and source input too.
are they planning on addressing this issue or is it a lost cause, seems to be an ongoing issue in Holland, got a kick out of reading the google translations of the page.
reminds me of a time I tried to use free translator to write a French essay for college and failed epically!

ill ring them in the morning and if no fix the box is going back!

    Hi all,

We can assure you that we are passing all relevant feedback on this thread to our Horizon Team who are very keen to hear all your feedback.

If anyone has individual issues they would like us to check please PM UPC: Reps with your account details, and we will follow up with you.

We would also reiterate that that the service you are currently using is a beta version, not the final mass market product which will be released.

    Thanks.

Hi Eamonn Will it be possible to connect Horizon Box to my own wireless Belkin N+ cable router and use the wireless from the belkin router to connect PC'S and iPhone,PS3 etc as I can do this at the moment with my upc scientific atlanta modem connected to Belkin router as when I got upc broadband originally I told them I don't want there wirelees router as I want to use my own in separate computer room this also covered phone connection from scientific atlanta modem
I know upc scientific atlanta modem cant handle 50mb and above
I have signed up to Horizon 50MB Package
TV is from tv point at the moment with digital+
Broadband/Phone is from Separate upc point in computer room
I use scientific atlanta modem to a Buffalo Router (Wireless Disabled) then to Belkin N + Wireless Router and a Dlink Wired Network Switch
I want to know if i going to be able to use my own wireless Router as I have before and other Router at later stage
What range does the UPC Horizon box have for Wireless Signal and lease time of horizon box as I have My Belkin and Buffalo set to Forever so I don't get any connection drop outs
Note DPD due to deliver on Friday my Horizon Box

Yep, got this too - very confusing to figure out which episode is which. Also the episode lengths seem to be a bit off, I was watching something that was supposed to be '2 hours' long, but it was only about an hour and a half.

Anyone have the new Horizon box along with the Cisco wireless router setup?

I have retained the original Wireless router and the coax is split into both. However for some reason the Cisco isnt providing the bandwidth into my own router as before. My understanding is the horizon box on its own doesnt support bridging.
