I got the new equipment yesterday and I'm very impressed.
The interface is slick and very usable. The new smartphone features are very handy.
It's a massive step up from the old UPC gear and I'd even put it ahead of sky.

Would anyone be nice enough to post up a quick video of it in action?

Self install this morning keeping my old cisco router working instead. Took about 20 minutes in total. Still trying to get used to the interface but working well overall. Now to find it on the logitech harmony software

Having the horizon box delivered next week.

Quick q: does the box come with a HDMI cable or how is it connected to TV? Have a spare cable, but wondering as a matter of interest!

Yeah there is a HDMI cable included. Can also be connected with Scart, but not sure who would want that.

Snow via HDMI doesn't sound right.

Yeh, it was odd. Like high def snow ;) Old hd box is still working ok but have no bb still. when I rang to order they said I had to return old hd box & Cisco modem & netgear router, yet when horizon box arrived, courier said no, hold onto it.a call later to upc and they said hold onto old equipment in case I decide not to stick with horizon.

I am getting my box Monday. €83/month for 100mb and Anytime World. Doesn't seem that they have carried over my €10 loyal customer discount though. Might ring again Monday to ask them why.

I have to ring apparently as well to ensure the box is not doing broadband and my modem is... Seems odd, I guess they're just going to walk me through something on the menu.

did anyone managed to setup port forwarding on the new box? I got my IP set and it's outside DHCP range, but forwarding still doesn't work...

also all youtube videos in builtin youtube apps display video unavailable when I try to play it.

    thanks for help.

Including an example of a working case :

Since getting the horizon box my ipad drops wifi every time it goes into sleep mode which is annoying as I don't get a push notifications until I unwake my ipad and it automatically reconnects to the horizon box, never had this problem with my old router

Anyone else experiencing this and any solutions, would it have something to do with the horizon box being set to a different security wep,wpa etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 SlavD

Thanks Bob and Derek - my port forwarding works now.

one thing to note - the new router blocks the connections from inside the network on public IP, so to test the port forwarding you have to use remote host.

hope it helps someone with debugging....

Self-installed the box this morning, no problems at all. The UI still needs a lot of work - for some of the most-used basic operations, it now takes multiple clicks instead of one.
I'm having difficulties mapping the remote to my Harmony universal remote - I want to add a couple that are not in the Logitech map for the box. But the harmony doesn't pick up any IR signal at all ... obviously there's an IR emitter in there for the TV, but are commands for the Samsung box via RF?

Do not like the browse function for channels. It just has now and next (like a generic fta satellite box), the old boxes you could scroll right through to midnight. Also you have to scroll to see the next programme.

The in screen video is nice, but far more functional to see now-next instantly and then be able to scroll to the remaining evenings programs as before. Can't believe the ui designer team omitted this, very basic stuff.

Read the thread. It seems with the new remote that some commands are infra red while most of the buttons are via some sort of radio possibly bluetooth. Some of the buttons on the non keyboard side are RF. Any RF button cannot be simulated by the universal remote as it cannot send or learn RF commands. You can confirm which buttons are RF by looking at the emitter on the remote using a camera phone. A camera in a phone can see infra red, while your eye cannot.

The new remote has an RF connection to the horizon unit as well as IR for tv control, see here for further details:
"The new remote control is included among other keys for direct access to menu items, a full keyboard and a wireless connection to the Horizon unit (without required visual contact with the operator)"

Thanks, that what I was afraid of. I did read through most of the thread last night, but must have missed where this was cleared up.

I see from some info on the UPC Swiss site that they are planning a new multi-room box for later in the year, This will obviously work in conjunction with the Horizon box to view content from it ... Interesting idea ..

I see that the Ipod / ipad remote to control the horizon box has also been launched in the swiss market :

Use google chrome to translate automatically ..

    https://itunes.apple.com/ch/app/horizon-tv-remote/id532085851?mt=8

    http://community.upc-cablecom.ch/posts/5a9c9b5a1f?page=16

In the second half of 2013

    - Simplified TV Guide navigation (eg Select future right days)
    - Separate favorites list
    - New options when deleting recordings
    - Extension of the home network functionality
    - Optimization of the box stability when playing home network content
    - Easier access to radio stations
    - Android App
    - Complementary box for other TVs in the home

Everything is working perfectly for me now.

    My HD stations are working.
    M xBox is working.
The box no longer disconnects from the TV.
Everything is playing from my network.

The only issue I have now is that I cant pause or fast forward anything coming from my network.

Complementary Box? Does that mean no more multi-room charges?

    Hey All,
Apologies if this was already answered but haven't noticed it yet...
My current set up has the cable box in the living room downstairs but the modem up in a third floor bedroom where one of my housemates needs to be connected to the modem via Ethernet cable as he needs a reliable connection for work.
Getting the Horizon trial box soon but a tad worried about what I've heard re: everything having to go through this box.
Anyone know if the existing modem will still work when plugged into the cable line, so we could keep our setup?

    Cheers XD

Does anyone know if the batteries go in the end of the remote were the Horizon logo is? I'm afraid ill end up pulling it apart if I try.

Might sound trivial but does anyone find the on screen font size very small and hard to read or is it just old age creeping up on me.

Yes, me too. It needs to be a little bigger definitely and I'll be mentioning it in my feedback.

I imagine complementary box but attached to a monthly subscription just like getting new phone

I don't expect that it will be subscription free .. this might be a problem with the translation from german ..
I think it means a box that would work in conjunction with the Horizon box allowing the recorded content on that box to be viewed in other rooms

It's great to see at least some people have the box's installed and up and going,I started with my first call to upc on weds 6 calls later and I'm still waiting on a callback about my installation getting rightly fed up with all passing the buck that's going.

Another bug found today. If you are watching a show from the planner (as it's being recorded to fast forward through the ads), if you forward to catch up with live you can't. You fast forward to the point of live and it backs out to the last TV channel you were watching last. The media box keeps you watching the show, but stops at the furthest point. A tad annoying.
