hmm maybe i'll bite the bullet and go bill-pay, first time in my life. Who offers the best plan?

edit: i'll mostly be using it for the internet. I rarely make calls or send sms, haven't even bought credit in over a year.

You might as well buy a Nexus 7 or something!

Yes they do, they have no bloat ware or branding either

I've just rang emobile, it's €399 for me on bill pay, probably because im in the middle of a contract. I think I'll still with my trusty s3.

3 seem to be the best deal at the moment, or am I wrong? 99 euro for the phone, 40 euro a month bill pay with unlimited data? Finding it hard to get the O2 prices as the phone is out of stock online.

I wouldn't take it off 3 for free with a free unlimited contract. They are a horrible company.

Just wondering, is the s4 worth the 150 or more euro than the s3?

Do not go near Three, I've posted it up here already on a few threads about how bad they are. I signed up to a 24 month plan with a free S2 almost two years ago, it was all fine and rosy for the first 12 months but they started taking way too many people on their all you can eat data packages and now their system can't handle it and the contention ratio is shocking. After 6 in the evening I'm getting .3mbps in the same house where I was getting 4mbps two years ago. Then when you ring for technical assistance you get someone on top of a train in Delhi, if you get no satisfaction from then and want to cancel you get transferred to a cocky arrogant and down right rude Damien Dempsey impersonator in their Dublin call centre. Can't wait till July when my contract is up so I can go ANYWHERE else.

Horse's for courses and all that.

I've been with three for four years now, they got my bills down from €300 pm from O2 to about 90-100 now.

I can use my phone to call UK mobile numbers and landlines at no extra cost, I can use my phone and internet in any country in the world that also has three, again at no extra cost.

I can tether the laptop to my phone when out and about at work, no extra cost.

Customer care can be a pain, but for most technical issues I can resolve myself using Google. Failing that, the reps on boards are easily contacted.

After seeing multiple posts, all negative towards three from this poster, I can't help feeling he has an axe to grind.

For me it's looking like a toss up between Meteor & Vodafone.

The meteor one can be got for 299, minus 150 trade in with car phone warehouse. 30.50 per month (18 month contract). 200 minutes, 200 texts, 1 gb data per month. Total cost over 2 years €881.99.
Vodafone 199, minus 150 trade in. 35 per month (24 month contract) 100 min, 100 text, 500 mb per month. Total cost over 2 years 889
Three phone 529, sell phone for 150, 24.41 per month (30 day contract) , 299 units and all you can eat data, 988 over two years.

Three coverage is spotty in my house. Good reception with Meteor. Think I may be moving back to meteor...

Exactly I'd rather pay €9 a month extra for the same deal to meteor to actually have some reception and never have to deal with three again.

CPW look like the best to deal with at the moment, seriously thinking of leaving three if I can get a better deal!

As you say horses for courses, great that you're saving money but I can guarantee you're in the minority, everyone has different needs, for me I have no interest in ringing the UK, roaming doesn't bother me as a break from my phone and everyone on the other end of it is my idea of a holiday, and if you read the small print on your plan I think you'll find that they don't allow tethering and if they discover you're tethering they can cut back your speeds.

I've ordered one from three, I'm out of contract with them and the handset was free and the monthly contract drops from 49 to 40.66 a month. very happy with that deal

35 euro for 100 mins and 100 texts and 500 mb of data from vodafone is a disgrace.

Would love to know where your getting your pricing from as the cheapest plan on Three where you get the handset for free is the €60.99 pm plan and they don't have a €49 pm plan?

can understand why would anyone be getting a smart phone with only 500mb of data. Hard to be in a wifi zone all of the time.

I guess that's their way of pushing you to bigger price plans. I pay €65 a month with them, but I get my value for money out of it.

My girlfriend is on their base plan, like the one you mention above. I updated all of her apps one day (because she's useless at doing things like that), thinking she was connected to the wifi at home....didn't even check. That was almost 200MB of her 500MB gone just like that!

I've made sure she has 'update only on wifi' ticked, so the same mistake can't be made again, especially now that most apps have 'update automatically' selected by default.

Pardon my ignorance but what would be examples of "bloatware"

Vodafone put multiple apps on your phone, they nobody wants or needs. Can't remember what they are, as I removed them straight away :D

Edit: Am not referring to the S4, don't think it comes with any bloat. My One X and One both had stuff like that on them though.

Guys just a quick heads up with how meteor (and probably all carriers) sell high demand phones.

I went into meteor on the north side on Saturday to get one of these bad boys and first asked if they have any in stock. The guy said yes they have a few left.

He then proceeded to show me the unlimited deal for 50 Euro a month, and while it is nice i'm not willing to commit to a two year plan.

I said i wanted the 12 Month plan at 35 Euro PM, he still insisted on the more expensive plan but i wouldn't budge. He takes my passport and walks to get the phone only surprise surprise they have none left, he said they must have been sold since the last time he checked.

I left and went home to explain this to my father (Who works for meteor) He said that when any new, must have phone comes in, each shop gets a limited number, those phones are then split between all the employees , so each employee has a chance to meet/increase their quota.

The problem is that the employees hold on to the phones and only sell them to a 'high valued' customer (They get more points for their quota). So the likes of me who wants a 12 month or even a 18 month contract is outta luck for the next few weeks until demand levels off.

I went back an hour later with my father and surprise, they suddenly had more in stock.

TBH if i were in their shoes i'd probably do the same, but if you want the phone on a short contract , tell them you want to get the phone on an expensive plan then once you see the phone , change your mind and go for the smaller plan. That way they cant make up an excuse. If they try to get out of selling it to you , then call them out on it , they are not allowed to hold on to phones for certain customers.

Reminds me of a story my friend told me this weekend. He went into one of the stores, think it was three but I'm not sure about a week ago. He asked what the best android phone was, the guy told him it was the galaxy s3.

My friend was all set to go ahead and buy the s3 when he noticed a poster for the upcoming s4! He asked the sales man about the s4, the guys told him that phones won't be out for ages. My friend then asked why you have a poster for it! The guy tried to fob him off so he could get a sale then and there but my friend was having none of it and left.

Three are known for it, Like My3 and 3Planet apps blah blah, just give me a phone with nothing on it , if i want your apps , i'll download them...

True, I've never worked on commission and i never want too. It'll make you focus on sales rather then giving the customer proper value. I someone tried to sell me an s3 saying it was the best on the market. I'd give them the boot

I picked up the S4 on Saturday. Does anyone know about the Wallet capabilities of the phone? E.g. can I tap it off an NFC enabled till to pay?

Ordered this on PAYG earlier and hoping for day delivery from VF tomorrow so i can play with it..

Just my preference, but delighted to be rid of bill phones and 2 year contracts.. can see myself just upgrading year to year with good trade in value from now on. Also, carriers are delighted to throw all sorts of packages at you on PAYG for 25-30 a month so that will be the height of my bill(s) for the forseeable future..

Looking forward to playing with the new phone now!! Hurry up VF

Tesco Mobile advised they are selling only 3g version, that is why I'm wondering is there a 3g only version or is the s4 lte enabled by default?

If mine if 3g only, it will be getting sent straight back :-)
