74 strokes in Carton House on Sunday morning followed by 75 strokes in Lucan in the afternoon. Played ok but was badly let down by six missed putts inside 4 feet over the two rounds.

Good going on both courses. Monty or O'Meara?

Monty. Played with a +3 handicapper who strolled around in 2 under. Could easily been five or six but for a few very short missed putts. Was a pleasure to watch this guy play

Good going and alot of golf in one day, any particular reason for playing two different venues in the one day? What did you find was the significant difference between your own already high standard of golf and that of the +3 player? All down to short game with chipping and putting or was he more accurate with his tee/approach shots? I presume since you're both the far side of scratch you were of similar distance off the tee and weren't struggling to reach long par 4's in regulation?

88 strokes, 32 points in ok conditions on Sunday. Was a bit blustery and a couple of showers.

As has been mentioned above, greens in GC were hollow-tined recently, so were not in great shape (seems a bizarre time to be doing it to me, just over a week before the first medal of the year  ) and still non qualifying conditions out there, which probably suits me as I've been just missing buffers recently!

38 putts, can somewhat blame the greens, but I think its also partly to do with arriving late & not getting a bit of time in on the practice green prior to start.

A couple of sloppy shots, but generally speaking tee to green was happy enough with my game. Don't feel like I'm playing great golf (still trying to bed in a couple of slight swing tweaks from lessons), but still managing to score 30+ points most days out at the moment so I'm hoping that bodes well for when things click.

Feel like I'm very close to turning a corner & putting in a couple of very solid scores....gotta stay positive :D

I would say they had put it off till now due to the crap weather in March, if the weather stays milder the greens should recover pretty quickly. I don't mind it too much and it has to be done. Like yourself it wasn't all the greens fault for my 37 putts, I wasn't getting the ball rolling well at all. I need to get to the putting green for a couple of hours.

Thanks. Am a member of both clubs and there was a medal on in both on the same day. This guy hits it an absolute mile and has a short game to rival any. He is a recent quarter finalist in the West so is bang in form.

Yours would have been a great score on the O'Meara but on the Monty...that's fantastic. Well done.

Unbelievable stuff from your playing partner.

    thanks :)

was most happiest with how i finished - was stone dead through the back of 17 and managed to get up & down and birdied 18 which was playing tough - 3wood, 6 iron to a very tucked pin.

38 points off 12 in Dublin Mountain's open. Played well, only 81 strokes with 28 putts. Never played the course before wasnt expecting much from the place with some of the rough reviews in another thread but i thought it was a decent enough track. Bunkers were out of play and it was a bit wet in places, but the greens were in good nick.

Have the day off tmoro so playing an open in donabate, hopefully i havent used up all my good shots.

Turns out i won my category. My first prize in an open competition...chuffed to bits!

That's some going and a great score, congratulations on the prestigious win. Your game must be very sharp as the Castle was playing tough with the narrow fairways and tough greens as evident by the rather high CSS of 73. Congrats on the cut also, nearly down to your 2013 target already.
Don't know how you managed to get up and down from the back of 17 as the pin was front left with the green severely sloping from back to front. Great birdie on 18 to clinch the win also, tough fairway to hit.

    thanks dr.
i found the greens to be perfect, rolling true & at a lovely speed. they did have some 'interesting' pin positions (like 6,12,15,18) which i guess pushed the css.
17 was a nasty spot - completely shortsided myself and just managed to pull off a flop onto the fringe & gravity did the rest :)

85 off 18 today for 43 points, my first time ever breaking 90. Closest had been 93 so eight shots off, delighted. Had 5 three putts too which was insane, my putting is awful these days but I'm still over the moon after today.

Funny thing is I wasn't even conscious of my score at any stage never even thought about it.

86 gross for 41 points (66 nett) off 20 in Benamor GC (Eastern Algarve) :-)
I had forgotten how nice it is to play golf in a t-shirt.
Hired clubs from golfclubstohire.com in Faro and got a brand new set of TM with R1 driver, RBZ stage 2 woods and Rocketbladz irons. All the hype is true! The fairway woods/rescue are stunning. So easy to hit and forgiving. Amazeballs.
More golf tomorrow in sunshine. .. Yippee!

    one of those days...

3 scratches on the front 9, it was the 8th hole before I had a 2 pointer and I turned with 16 points

13 points on the back 9, but let 4 more easy points slip by incl. 3 missed putts inside 3 foot. All would have slid in on another day and all of a sudden...

I spent some time in the sand during the week and all was well. 3 times a bunker shot resulted in another bunker shot today. Very unusual for me.

    6 GIR
    3 / 13 FIR
    40 putts...

    really struggling with my tempo.

35 points around corballis was enough for victory with the society. Played well, had 8 pars and 2 birdies. Was a strong enough breeze out there but i managed to find a lot of fairways and my putter was hot.

Fruitful week after collecting in dublin mountain's open last sunday!

100 strokes off 8 in first medal of the year. Completely embarrassing golf and the behaviour after some of the holes/shots left a lot to be desired also. I have to apologize to my clubs and bag too, they took a bit of abuse.
This dip in form has lasted a month now and no sign of it getting any better at all. Has anyone else on here ever forgot how to play the game? My mental game is in shreds and, with a matchplay ahead of me tomorrow, I need an immediate and swift kick in the ass if I am to have any chance.
I might just get drunk and see what happens.

    83 around Portarlington.

Happy enough, 2 Birdies. Back from injury (Highly recommend dry needles). But will lay off for a few weeks now.
    Too many doubles.

Short game improved a little bit. But my 100 yard wedges are poor, fat poor strikes. Too steep on them.

I was at this point 6 times and hit one good shot.

So will practice this next,. Or talk to a pro.

Feel very close to a good score - but dont we all sometimes.

90 strokes in a medal today (hcp 15), took a 9 at the second:rolleyes:, but played really well until I got to the 16 when the weather took a turn for the worst, played the last 4 holes in +7.
Horrible conditions, but great to be back playing on Sundays.

tough at the office in the Golf Digest open in a windy and wet Carton House - Montgomerie.

Diced and lost against the infamous bunkers.

I've always struggled with tempo. I'm trying to shorten my backswing (at least on the range) but tbh it's allover the place at the mo. When its good the results are good. 6/14 fairways with the 3 wood and very good distance, regularly outdriving my more capable playing partners. 1 GIR which is symptomatic of poor striking with the short irons (probably tempo issue again) and the short game was awful. More than once it took 5 to get down from 30 yards out in a good lie.

    24 points

Nett 82 off 14 today in Moate. Had a 'hamlet' moment on 16th when taking 4 shots out of a bunker to record a 10. Absolutely ridiculous after I had been inside the 100 metres mark after 2 on a par 5. Really really stupid 3rd shot did the damage.
