Weird i was only reading that battery info a few mins ago!! Regarding the root and unlock bootloader what about S-On? Apparently if you unlock bootloader its triggers the phone into not updating and uninstalls a few stock apps.

Uk and Ireland seem to get these updates late so once there out you should be able to download it from XDA and flash away.

Im not 100% sure on the issues with rooting right now but im sure there is a way to keep the stock apps.

Also anyone know why we have 5 rows in the app tray but only 4 in the desktop panels area. Seems like a really obviously dumb move particularly considering the resolution, screen size and the fact we can only have 5 panels, or 4 with Blinkfeed. Cheers guys.

Thought you could have as many panels as you want, just by hitting add panel?

Try installing an alternative launcher, such as Apex. Allows tons of customisation .

Downside (maybe) is that you lose blinkfeed

Has anyone rooted and reenabled the hold back for menu option? I was going to but i'm afraid of cutting myself off from any updates that are coming. I love the One but i hate the black bar that comes up on some apps for the menu button - hopefully it'll be fixed in next update.

yeah, i'm rooted. having long press for back is good, although sometimes doesn't work perfectly.

if you root, you won't cut yourself from future updates. you can return your phone to stock and then receive your OTA. to be honest, rooting is the best way to receive updates ahead of time anyway. i'm have been running 1.29.xxx.12 firmware for a while now, and i'm pretty sure most people are still stuck on 1.28 firmware.

the positives of rooting far outweigh the negatives.

    While I haven't used either of the apps below, they seem to have the ability to modify/control the vibration intensity and LED so might be of use to you;

Light Flow Lite - LED Control
    Vibrate Tools

I agree with you on the number of icons but I believe this is an Android thing. I know when I rooted my S2 I had the ability to change the number of rows and columsn and it makes a big difference, though whether you can or will be able to do this with stock Android remains to be seen.

Thanks for the reply. Really helpful stuff. I've installed them but not having much luck as yet. Early days playing around though so will fiddle around a bit and report back.

Cheers. You can have upto 5 panels which is less than the 7 I had with my older S2. I'm a bit of a Blinkfeed fan tbh, its great for the train or waiting on the bus for a bit of light general knowledge browsing so I'd like to keep it.

I'll probably wait for the inevitable custom Roms which will of course solve everything from vibration and speaker intensity to war and famine.:)

I believe TrickDroid have already solved adding extra panes, and are very close to releasing a rom with built in on-the-fly tweaks.

Things are starting to happen :)

Recently have issues with in-call volume on my One X.it's too loud & won't go any lower, despite me pressing the side volume button (it doesn't react when in call).
any fix for this? Has only been an issue in last few days, had the phone since April last year. Tried hard restarting but didn't fix it...

Sorry but I think you may be in the wrong place. This thread is for the HTC One, the 2013 edition rather than the X, V or S etc. Best of luck.

It isn't, the standalone One thread was merged in here.

Looks like the smartphone court wars keep going, looks like Nokia got an ban against the HTC One. In fairness though it looks like they more or less yoinked one of Nokias parts. Could be killer timing for HTC, the current stock of One could be gone by the time the S4 gets into full swing.

Ok didn't know it was a free for all for all the models.

Bear in mind they have a ban, at this stage, against HTC being supplied with this component for devices for sale in the Netherlands. Its not global but I doubt HTC will want to ruin the good faith with Nokia. This is more of a tiff rather than an Apple/Samsung vicious face-off. HTC had no knowledge and will likely come to an arrangement with Nokia of the use of the chip up until the agreement with STM expires (or longer now that STM have breached the agreement to placate Nokia) and HTC will file for the costs of the agreement with Nokia against STM who will pay up to avoid being blacklisted as a supplier.

Someone getting sacked for poor drafting or not reading the contracts but the consumer should still get their One's without too much hassle.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but the amazing devs at XDA have managed to make the HTC logo function as a menu button, and the phone can now also be woken by the home button.

    Very impressive indeed.

Please provide linky. Would love to get rid of the waste of space bar that shows up at the bottom. Cheers.

PS: The XDA guys outclass everyone everytime.

    Here

Of course, you need to be rooted, and if you were rooted you would have got rid of that menu bar on the screen a long time ago, by switching to long press back for menu.

Can the menu hold system.app be trusted? I looked at the thread about it earlier and several people lost their settings completely because of it?

Just a quick one folks. Does anyone have viber on their ONE? For some reason half the "stickers" wont work on viber since i upgraded phones. its only a small thing but annoying at the same time - its like they are constantly loading?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling viber but the problem is still there

Yeah, same problem. Also have issues with sending pics, don't always work. Only use Viber sporadically so not a huge deal, still annoying though.

Went into Carphone Warehouse on Henry St earlier and they don't have any in stock. Meteor.ie seems to have em back in though. I'd prefer to get it with Carphone Warehouse because they have an offer of a free €400 travel voucher for anyone who switches to Meteor or Vodafone. Any word on when they'll have them in stock? I forgot to ask

I called emobile to see if they have stock to replace my 2nd faulty One. None in stock and he couldn't say when they were back in (he wasn't being lazy of flippant its just a genuine unknown due to HTC's manufacturing time needed to make each unit). He did say their usual stock intake dates are on Wednesdays and Mondays so will try back tomorrow.

On another note does anyone have a problem with their One unintentionally using text to speech for on screen content whenever they enable any app in Accessibilty. TalkBack is turned off. I can't use any apps requiring additional accessibility or everything on screen becomes public knowledge, and usually at volume due to the awesome speakers.

In a HTC One fanboy-esque moment checkout The Verge video review of the S4. Mostly good but ultimately he said he'd buy a One.

    Quote:
"Slimy slippery plastic with silver edges".
"Ultimately I just don't enjoy using this phone as much as I do the HTC One or the iPhone 5. It feels cheap and chintzy and just unimpressive. Everyone I handed the device too had the same 1st impression and it was never good" Ouch!!!

I think we made the right choice with the HTC One, teething troubles or not.

Hoping to sell my iPhone5 at a decent price and then get the One, looks like a weapon of a phone.

Anyone know of a Pre-Pay price for the One on Meteor....Vodafone have it up for 579 and O2 for 559, lets hope its closer to the latter if they are even going to sell it on Pre-Pay.

If you get one with sharp edges like my last 2 I've had they really are weapons.

Can't see a price on meteors website but you can pick them up brand new on emobile/meteor for €500 on adverts. Just pick a seller with good rep and meet in person + get the receipt.

I think Id prefer to get it in a shop, especially with the few niggly faults people are finding.... I'm hoping because I've waited a few weeks I will get a fresher batch with no design flaws.

The edges cant have been that bad??

I hear ya. Most are contract phones on adverts and sure you could just ask to see it in the flesh. I personally wouldn't buy a product that expensive sight unseen again.

I'm still trying to land a developer edition from the USA through a friend and if so I'll be selling mine. I think HTC will have gotten the flaws worked out by the time you buy yours.

As for the edges they're hardly going to cut an artery but on mine they do irritate when holding the phone and because its a 4.7" and I have medium sized hands there is a good bit of shuffling to navigate the tall screen while still keeping my finger below the phone for support the rubbing on aluminium is unpleasant. Its the nature of the material hence why I'm not prepared just let it go as a minor issue. I'm sure my next One will be perfect.
