I think this quote from Blinked will help you! It's definitely one of the reasons I'm seriously considering this phone as good headphone sound is extremely important for me.

That's exactly what I was looking for, thanks! It seemed to be a brilliant piece of kit anyway and now if it has that level of sound quality then I'm sold. It looks like the days of terrible, muddled and muffled audio from my phone may finally be over!

HTC’s ONE City Experiential Tour pulls into Dublin tomorrow. The tour will feature a host of experiential elements to promote the new HTC One which is now available on most networks in Ireland.

Activities on the day include photography master-classes demonstrating the Ultra Pixel technology, there will also be Sound & Picture demos where the superiority of HTC’s sound and screen will be clearly demonstrated against the competition. HTC will also edit, print and frame pictures for visitors to the road show.

There will also be a chance to win tickets to the HTC sponsored UEFA Champions League Final by demonstrating your football “showboating” skills. Its all happening at the Pavillion Swords tomorrow, Saturday 20th of April

Cheers, if you click on a youtube link on a webpage, it prompts to 'Complete Action Using' and then lists relevant apps which should include Youtube. But mine just shows the three browsers that I have, Youtube isn't listed. Its the same with a Google App from the Play store, if its linked in a webpage it should prompt you the same, listing Google Play amongst the apps, but again, on mine its only showing the Browsers amongst the app list to complete the action.
Interestingly, in Firefox, if I browse to www.youtube.com then click on a video it will prompt to complete action using and it will include Youtube, but in Chrome it will just open it in the Browser. I have double checked this on the Nexus and it prompts everywhere.
PS. No, I have selected no defaults, and checked settings to confirm no defaults have been chosen!

That is interesting. I don't have the same problem, will get YouTube popping up as an option. If I choose to send something from Root Explorer, I get a list of about 35 apps to use!

A quick Google search says that your problem might be due to an injunction with Apple, and it affects stock browser and chrome. Should be solved by using 3rd party browsers such as Firefox/Boat/Dolphin or a custom Rom.

    Hi Smithy,

I've tried to replicate your issue. I've Chrome, Chrome Beta, Firefox. the stock browser and YouTube installed. So I went and found a YouTube link to click in Chrome and I got the below screen which doesn't include YouTube as you described.

Although not immediately obvious to me, you can scroll this list. For me this revealed the illusive YouTube link as shown below

Let me know if I'm saying the right thing here.

I was gonna mention scrolling the list, but as he said he only had 3 browsers to choose from and nothing else, the box always shows 4 and should have YouTube

Has anybody been able to order a HTC One from Meteor? I've been checking their site and calling them for the last 3 weeks and its constantly out of stock (and no ETA of course). Dying to get my hands on one (pun intended).

That's a bit condescending there mate.
I did research it and compared specs with the iPhone and thought it would be superior. Unfortunately it wasn't.
It promised a lot but failed miserably to deliver.
You're talking as if I like wasting my time returning stuff and complaining for no good reason - and quite frankly, that is a ridiculous assertion.
People need to be informed about substandard products - I wish I had been.
If the second phone they gave worked - I would have been happy - but it didn't and that's pathetic for the price.
I'd rather have paid more and had it do what it was meant to do.

    Alright,

Seems you had very bad luck - 2 non-working phones. That does say something about the QA control though. (lack of)

Does anyone find the volume just too loud even when it is at the lowest setting? Even with Beats turned off it's too loud.

If I don't want to wake the missus in the morning, only option is to put in headphones. Bit of a pain.

Anyone know of an app that can tweak this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 123 ✭✭Jesus Christ

Yup, defeinitely too loud on the lowest setting. I've also noticed some pops from the speakers during quiet time, even when everything is muted. I'm hoping these issues will be corrected with the first update.

+1 on the lowest setting being too loud on the speakers, headphone is fine though.

I'm getting that popping when muted too, and occasionally with the sound up.

The volume is a bit too much alright. I'll say one thing, it gets me out of bed in the morning, if the terrifyingly loud alarm somehow doesn't do it, the dog going insane in response will.

Does anyone know if its possible to change some of the notifications on the One. Just gonna put 'em in a list

    1) Can you set different vibrations for email, sms, IM. On my iphone it vibrates once for email (screen stays off), vibrates twice for SMS (screen turns on). When its in my pocket I can identify by vibration if its sms or mail incoming so I know whether it needs immediate attention or not.
    2) Anyway to alter vibration intensity. Its making me jump everytime its lying on my glass desk and I get an email.
    3) Can we control the notification LED eg make it stay on green for a missed call, blink green for sms etc.
    4) Anyway to group notifications in the statusbar with numbers of inbox mails, sms etc as its always full to the brim as well as make them smaller in the dropdown.

Also anyone know why we have 5 rows in the app tray but only 4 in the desktop panels area. Seems like a really obviously dumb move particularly considering the resolution, screen size and the fact we can only have 5 panels, or 4 with Blinkfeed. Cheers guys.

If buying online use the code PRIUP20 and you will get 20% discount :)

You may have to already be an o2 customer but it's still a significant saving, €111.80.

450 quid for a brand new top of the range smartphone.

Knock on effect from the Nexus?

Possibly. But as far as I know you can use the code to buy any phone. My sister pre ordered the S4, tried the code and got the discount.

    While I haven't used either of the apps below, they seem to have the ability to modify/control the vibration intensity and LED so might be of use to you;

Light Flow Lite - LED Control
    Vibrate Tools

I agree with you on the number of icons but I believe this is an Android thing. I know when I rooted my S2 I had the ability to change the number of rows and columsn and it makes a big difference, though whether you can or will be able to do this with stock Android remains to be seen.

Has anyone rooted and reenabled the hold back for menu option? I was going to but i'm afraid of cutting myself off from any updates that are coming. I love the One but i hate the black bar that comes up on some apps for the menu button - hopefully it'll be fixed in next update.

Most likely you'll get updates quicker if you root and unlock your bootloader.

    Found this one on XDA
This is pretty well established knowledge right now. I'll list everything pertinent about lithium ion batteries and charging smartphones:

    1. Charging is what reduces the life of a lithium ion battery. Batteries are usually rated between 700-1000 charge cycles while keeping 90% of their capacity.
    2. Charging 0-100% counts as one cycle. Charging 80-100% 5 times counts as one cycle.
    3. Leaving your phone on the charger after it is charged has the potential to reduce battery life, although this is less of a problem with newer devices as they often disconnect the charging circuit until the battery drops below ~95%. Generally only an issue if you leave it on the charger for 24+ hours.
    4. Lithium ion batteries do not require any conditioning.
    5. Most lithium ion devices arrive with ~40-50% battery life remaining, because this is the optimal charge level to store a lithium battery for long periods (such as sitting on a store shelf for months).
    6. Slower charging maintains the battery's overall lifetime capacity better than fast charging. This is likely why the HTC One does not have Qualcomm's Quick Charge enabled. It's debateable whether you'd notice the effects over the typical lifetime of a smartphone, however (2 years).
    7. Not exactly related to lithium but just in general: smartphones (and tablets, etc) have charging circuits that only draw a certain amount of amps regardless of the number of amps the charger provides. Using a 3.1 amp (tablet-level) charger is not going to significantly increase the speed at which your phone charges. Most phones only use between 0.8 - 1.2 amps. Anything over that is overkill.
    8. Storing a lithium ion battery at 0% is really bad for its lifetime capacity. Running it to 0% generally isn't recommended all the time, but a few instances won't hurt it.
    9. Recharging from 0-100 doesn't make your battery run longer. It can, however, reset Android's battery level stats so that it can more accurately state the battery level.
    10. Charging from ~95% to 100% takes a long time because it must do a trickle charge. Maxing out the battery like this can reduce overall lifetime capacity, but generally not enough to matter. You'll see this impact more often in larger applications of lithium batteries (like cars).

Weird i was only reading that battery info a few mins ago!! Regarding the root and unlock bootloader what about S-On? Apparently if you unlock bootloader its triggers the phone into not updating and uninstalls a few stock apps.
