How much did you pay for them? I'm looking at a 7950 for 235 pounds delivered now. :)

Hey guys, a friend of mine asked me to have a look at his computer; he's not particularly tech-literate. I haven't seen his computer yet, but he describes his problem as such:

That when he turns his computer on the fans spin up, stop spinning, spin up, stop spinning, and then the comp turns on. So basically, the comp fans turn off/on several times before the computer properly boots.

Like I said, I haven't personally witnessed this yet, but assuming this description is accurate, what should I look out for? Power supply I was thinking? The computer is a custom built rig that's 5 + years old at this stage.

Check the CPU fan too, if its not detected the MOBO will halt for safety. A few attempts could be giving it enough momentum to spin up properly.

Oh, I see. Thanks. That may well be the problem! I can grab a working fan from a stock cooler I have and check it out. Sound!

I paid 240 for the 2 7850 2Gb's. I could have gotten the 7950 for about the same but 7850 CF is much faster, and when I change cards down the line, I can sell one and put the other into my 2nd machine, which is pretty much what I always do!

    :O Where did you find a 7850 2GB for €120?? :O

That's some serious price, I assume it's not from a regular retailer but if it is could I please have a link :) Pretty please

    man this is strange

I got my new ssd today. Bioshock infinite doesnt like it one bit. I use steam mover to move it from the hard drive to the ssd and just wont play for me properly at all. What happens is I click on the shortcut on the desktop and it opens but minimises, constant loop.

I then transfer it back to the hd and I have to perform a " verify integrity of game cache" and that gets it going on the hard drive other wise I would have the same trouble as I did on the ssd. I try this on the ssd and it doesnt work

Delete the game, and when you download it again, create a directory on the SSD instead. It could just be a problem with Steam Mover.

man that was going to be my last resort. Damn 3mb broadband

No point downloading it again tbh, not worth it just for the ssd

Yeah steam mover doesn't play well with some games for some reason.Rather than having to download the game again just copy your original files to somewhere else on your ssd, delete the game from your steam library. Then start downloading it again, completely quit out of steam and transfer your original files into your steam games folder and start steam again. This works for me when things go wrong.Keep a backup of your original files in case steam decides to delete them.

Looks like I have to re download it anyway since its having the exact trouble I was having on the ssd

Ill have to be weary on steam mover, never had trouble with it before

That's what I do a lot. Torrents are usually faster than the steam servers so I buy the game, and torrent the files and just copy them over.

Steam has never failed to max my connection speed but I only have 8mb :(

Really? What kind of torrent speeds do you get? I rarely, if ever see mine go above 2MB/s (although I typically get speeds of 1+MB/s), whereas I've gotten download speeds of 5MB/s+ off Steam (more typically 2-4).

You see I don't be hitting over a few hundred kilobytes in either steam or the torrents, for some games steam works fine, but others I just find the torrents to be faster and I get more options with the torrent client such as it turning the computer off when its finished downloading.

Strange, I've never had a problem maxing out my connection (60Mb) with either steam or torrents.

For any kind of large files yeah. I think my server is set as Luxembourg rather than Ireland though.

Brand? Two Corsair Voyagers went bust on me inside a week. Got a Corsair Slider and it's been working great though.

Got a QPAD MK-85 keyboard with the new box the other day. Keyboard works great while in the OS, but it doesn't function at all during the POST or in the BIOS. I plugged in an old Dell keyboard (to the same port) and it works perfect.

Motherboard is a Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3 on the F10c BIOS version.
    I've the following enabled:
    USB2.0 controller
    Legacy USB Support
    XHCI Hand-off
    EHCI Hand-off

And I've even tried the Port 60/64 emulation to no avail!

Anyone had this problem and successfully resolved it?

Try a USB to PS/2 adapter.

Has anyone returned a defective motherboard to HWVS? What's the procedure? I returned my motherboard last week through UPS returns, I received the same one back today with a note saying

    "Dear *** ***,

enclosed we are returning yor memory module.
We ask you to return the whole kit, because the manufacturer is not able to handle returns of only one memory module.
We will then immediately send you a new kit.
    Yours sincerely..."

I assume it's a mistake. I don't think it's asking for my entire order to be returned (I purchased the CPU, motherboard and RAM all together) as only the motherboard is defective. It seems like they think I gave them one memory stick, whereas my set came with 2?? I dunno. I sent an email suggesting that there's confusion somewhere.

    Any input?

Sounds like a mix-up. Returning RAM in pairs is standard procedure (which is unfortunate if you don't have spares), but they don't want your entire order. RMA numbers crossed, I'd guess.

That's exactly what I assumed. I knew there was no way someone had confused RAM for a motherboard. Pity, another 10 days without a computer, it's already been almost 4 weeks :/ I think I'm going to set up my old system.

Gotta love a Phenom II with a 7950 and 8gigs of RAM haha!!!

Just a quick question, my parts form hardwareversand should be here Tuesday and the only keyboard I have in the house at the moment is a cheap wireless one will this function well enough to set up windows? Also this has probably been asked to death but all I've found online are conflicting opinions I haven't got an anti static wristband, can I ground my self by touching the metal part of the case or the pipes of a radiator?
