Hunthe I know a small minority get group 1 winners but for a horse who was standing at 7 or 8k wouldn't his return still be considered quite poor. At a cheaper fee than him I'd be interested in Arakan, am I right in thinking he covered the biggest book in the UK and Ireland last year? Pity Peintre Celebre is quite expensive at 10k

Sorry which one are you refering to ? A good example is to take a sample of the high profile Coolmore stallions over the years. They all covered big big books of quality mares at fancy prices. See how few actually got a group 1 winner given every opportunity. If you compare these fellows with the likes of the sires I mentioned in the last post and thir results you would have to say they can do a job . It shows at the Sales because they always sell. Arakan is a good shout and one I thought of after (about the same price as the others) but commercially, if he suits, captain rio is better, he has a big crop to hit the track this year and decent crops for the next two which will give him a decent chance of keeping his name in the news and therefore his progeny will sell. Yes Peintre celebre is a very good sire and under rated but only under rated in this country I think. He is more expensive though.

Had a quick look at Key of Luck, he loved nijinsky in his mares.

Hi folks, been offered a share in a 5 year old mare out of a Quick Move stallion. Was told there was 6 black type winners in the family. It's a very small investment so i am tempted. Any advice from you guys on what little info i have right now on the family? Thanks in advance.

Never even heard of Quick Move had to google him. Raced once and was beaten, seems to have one horse sold at the sales for 300 euro.

This is what the racing post says, though he doesn't show up when you enter his name into the stallion search

8th foal, full-brother to 1,000 Guineas winner Wince, half-brother to very smart stayer/jumper Ulundi and smart French 10f filly Fleeting Glimpse (dam of high-class 2yo Half Glance and St Leger 3rd Tycoon); dam 10f 3yo winner, from an excellent family

    What's the mare's name?

Very vague. Quick move ? Has the mare raced ? have any of her siblings ?

What did they not like Sting. He seems to be producing very athletic looking stock and is very popular at the sales

I totally missed that Redoute's Choice has moved to Europe. Really really good stallion, Shareta is visiting him. 70k pretty sure that puts him miles ahead as France's most expensive unless I'm mistaken

City Honours is one of the most under-rated stallions in the country. I know you have to be patient and give them plenty of time but it is well worth it in the end. He is also very affordable to take a chance on.

I see first 2yo race will be coming shortly. What are peoples fancy for champ first season sire. Obviously STS gonna be seriously interesting, imho I'd consider him a flop if he doesn't get at least 5 classic prospects considering the mares he's gotten, basically the who's who of the stud book. Bushrangers sold well in the ring and being a rattling good 2yo he should be fighting for top honours. Dandy Man I think will be another that will get some speedy types. A stallion I think could be value next year would be Champs Elysses. I cant see him getting many 2yos and i think his fee will go down to next to nothing next yr and he'd be worth going to on pedigree alone, although probably not the best if your looking to sell. Thoughts?

dandy man has had a good start, hard to know if he will sustain it...good reports on his stock though

    http://www.agakhanstuds.com/stallion/sea_the_stars_brochure.html

Brochure for Sea The Stars' 2 year olds. Haven't had a chance to look at it myself so not sure what it's like.

Just joined the website and read this piece. Loved very second of it!

Some stallions look like like great prospects. Would love the opportunity to try it some day. If I was in NH I recon Gold Well is a good opportunity, given his background.

Looking forward to Henry the Navigator this year. Hope the weather stays good, as he may have some beauties!!

Welcome aboard. Fancied Gold Well a lot as a stallion last year but at 5k he doesn't make as much appeal I don't think when you have Robin Des Champs at the same price.

What do people make of Danehill Dancer at 40k? Best value in the country at the minute I think, think he is going to have a good year this year looking at some of his 2 year olds

Or I'd be rushing to use Peintre Celebre, how many stallions have sired a dozen different Gr 1 winners and stand at 10k??

Good call, that's not counting the 3 in Japan. Starting to go well as a broodmare sire too.

Intense Focus could be a useful first season sire. Has had two winners already, Focus on Venice first time out at the weekend. Has another runner today in the maiden at Newmarket; Tubeanie.

Didn't even know about those. Do you think he's been maybe poorly campaigned by Coolmore? The fact he's standing at Grange, find it hard to fathom why he's standing at the same fee as Footstepsinthesand

Any idea when STS's first crop start racing in UK/Ireland?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Probably the earliest ones when the 6 furlongs maidens come around and I'm sure there are some who will want seven already. An owner and trainer won't want to be rushing them anyway with the price they cost

They don't seem to fancy promoting the line (Nureyev). It's all about Danehill and Sadlers. They are trying to find (with not much success to date) a replacement for Kingmambo . Thing is rest of the World loves Nureyev and Peintres results are hard to argue with.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Strange they'd be so dismissive of it, isn't it a 3/4s brother Nureyev is to Sadler's. What American pedigrees are good enough to replace Kingmambo, Henrythenavigator looks the most obvious but Kingmambo hasn't proved to be the best sire of sires but 2 group 1 winners in his first crop is hard to argue with. What other really good stallion sons did Mr Prospector have, Fusaichi Pegasus hasn't exactly set the world alright

I agree re Danehill Dancer and Peintre Celebre being good value. I also think Dalakhani down to 25k this year is good value if u had the right mare, his fillies are outsold his colts last year probably because offering the darshaan cross for sadlers wells sons. I also really really like Medicean at 10k sterling, i liked him even more last year at 8k as he had his 30k crop running for him. I think he shows how overpriced first season sires are if your looking to breed a good racehorse and not solely looking for a quick buck.
