I regularly watch American TV and their ads are usually horrible drivel (no different than ours then, I guess)

Was watching ABC news on the bombing which was full of the usual doom and gloom sinister music, CSI graphics, heavy use of the word "TERROR in Boston!!", repeated remarks of telling people to stay indoors and away from crowds, etc. General dread to the overall thing.

Then every 5 minutes there were adverts of happy-go lucky people selling mayonnaise, talking animals selling holiday breaks, and an overly cheesy cheery guy talking about cost price sofas.

Then it was back to the doom.

It was quite jarring with the polar opposite tonal shifts every 5 minutes. :pac:

What gets me the most is that the perpetrator is still free.
    Hope they catch him quick.

Love Boston, it's a great friendly city and was always a home from home for us Irish. A couple of my friends had a crazy night last night, treating victims in Massachusetts General Hospital. My thoughts and prayers to those who died and those who were injured.

my guess is it's a male, white, home-grown, gun tooting, loony-fringe American. lives alone, or with his mom, possibly ex military.

    quite similar to McVeigh.
    then again ....

    Condolences to all affected.

Bloomberg are interviewing Richard Falkenrath, Former White House Homeland Security Adviser

BLMBRG: Any sense of whether this was an international group or a domestic group?

RF: Look, most of the sources that are beginning to talk out from law enforcement communities are leaning towards domestic implications, and the fact that an ATF Special Agent appeared with the FBI at the news conference at 9:30 suggests that they are thinking about a domestic origin.

It could still change, eh, but the tilt of speculation is towards domestic, not international at this point.

BLMBRG: Any reason for that specifically that you can look at and say...?

RF: Well for me it was very interesting the ATF Special Agent come right after the FBI. The ATF doesn't usually feature that prominently in major cases like this and their jurisdiction has to do with the US sale and transfer of explosives and the investigation of crimes committed by things that are either stolen or misused. So that tilts slightly towards a domestic route but time will tell.

Yes it is. Martin Richard aged 8 years old and was waiting near the finish line for his father who was running in the marathon. His mother and sister apparently seriously injured also.

Id consider myself fairly hardened and immune to shocking stuff but that pic is so poignant and has really shook me. Just so senseless.

Bloomberg reporting that the police interviewed a 20 year old Saudi man who was injured in the blast and searched his apartment. They're treating him as a witness, not a suspect.

Presumably that's what Fox were reporting yesterday.

Its so ironic. Last night I posted about how Boston has strong ties with Ireland, and how the Irish Dancing World Championships were held there, in Boston, just over 2 weeks ago.

Irish Dancing Magazine International just confirmed with a Boston dancing school that the little boy that died was the brother of an Irish dancer who competed in Boston two weeks ago. His sister, the dancer, has lost a leg, and their mother is in a critical condition awaiting surgery. Their dad was running the race in memory of the Sandy Hook children. Their other child, a little boy, was unharmed. This family had very strong ties to Ireland, regularly visiting for competitions.

So much hurt for one family. Link here to the magazine's FB if anyone is interested.

I'm trying to put this as sensitively as possibly, so I hope it comes out right. I kind of hope it was some random white lunatic who did it. I'm remembering the vigilante attacks on innocent Muslims and Sikhs in the wake of 9/11 and I'm fearful for the reprecussions if someone from the Middle East did this. Such a sad situation.

I can't understand people joking about such a horrible event. Really thought Sky News went overboard with it though, showing the explosion over and over again and the aftermath even the quite unpleasant parts.

Feckin hell, that's just horrific. That poor family. :(

I imagine the father will feel a lot of guilt (however illogical) that it was for him that his family were in that particular place at that particular time. Same with all of the runners who had family and friends waiting for them at the finish line. It would be a very hard thing to live with.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

They did the same with the Japanese earthquakes and reactor explosions endless looping horror scenes and exploding power plants!
