32 points of 22 last Sunday in our first society outing of the year. 1st/2nd/3rd were 37 / 35 / 34 points

Happy enough considering its only my 2nd round since last Oct.

I'm joining a club this week which is more or less on my doorstep and will try and get a good bit of practice in this summer after work during the longer evenings.

Tale of 2 halves today in Mallow GC.
Hit 11 points on the front 9 amidst a downpour, think we were one of two groups on course.Came home in 17 points which was brilliant imo considering what I had been doing on the front 9.
Played with a fellow Boardsie he pipped me for the back 9 with a great par on the 17th. Enjoyed the focus a bit of matchplay brings.

30pts in first open Thursday of the season at Moate. Off back tees and clean & place fairway only in cool damp conditions so wasnt too unhappy apart from the fact that I had 3 holes where I didnt score. Left 5 putts on the lip of the hole as well which didnt help matters. Just one of those days - could have been worse, but also could have been better.

One good thing about posting here is at least you can be analytical and subjective about the round no matter how bad or good the score was.
We've all had those where a certain lady luck would've made a 4 or 5 point difference-at least when I put it in words it's an almost true reflection of how things really went.

Just in from playing my 3rd card at Grange Castle. 99, 93 and an 89 tonight.

Out in 42.... (Had to pull up on the back 9 :) )

37 points of self given 18HC... Will have GUI in a week or so!
Think I might have to get used to no shot on a hole or two after tonight's card.

    1 birdie
    4 pars
    9 bogeys
    3 doubles
    1 treble

I would have been pulling like a teenage boy only that I was out with a fellow boardsie :) He took a bit of convincing as I raced a par putt past the hole on 10.

    Shocked but delighted.

You might think that that is innocent enough, but it amounts to cheating whatever way you look at it.
If thats how you intend on conducting yourself, you may better off finding a different pastime, the game is already flooded with newcomers with those kind of attitudes.

    Miss any blatant joke lately???
Did you also miss the bit (without smiley face) were I said I was delighted.

For someone so quick to jump on something, you're a bit slow if you missed that one.

I've no interest in playing to anything but the lowest possible handicap I can and there are plenty on here that could attest to that.

I don't know wether to say thanks or F Off... thanks I guess :)

Can't go pulling up for any 23 or 26 pointers now on the boards outings I guess (that's a joke for anyone that struggles to get it)

75 in my old hunting ground Ashbourne...my first game with my bushnell laser and I love it, make clubbing so much better.

    6 bogeys
    2 birdies
    10 pars

    10 Fairways hit
    7 GIR
    25 putts

Drive the ball really well and long, I seem to have added yards on all clubs through the lessons and training which had me missing quite a few greens but I was happy with the short game.

Some silly shots but I was really happy with how things are starting to come together as it feels like a whole new swing so its taking time to bed in..

Highlight was a drive and Gap wedge to 3ft on the 8th to a back pin.

34pts in a society outing at Roscrea GC. Delighted with it really as it was my first time playing it and the only hole I played badly was the 18th. Some tricky greens and I like the undulating fairways.

    +1 I was thinking more like 12.

I would say about a 20 handicap due to the progression in scoring.

Had an amazing day yesterday, can't really explain why ?! other than : golf, it's a funny old game.
    I played 5 rounds of golf last year, I haven't played in 6 months, and yesterday I had 41pts (including 3 birdies) !! <off 14>

Venue: the Old Head, weather : windy & sunny, price: not too bad as it was subsidized.

I practiced my putting on the putting green but just stepped up to the 1st tee box and off I went, 1st hole, birdie (yeehaaa).

It was back to my old form then until I hit the 12th, the infamous 12th,

    D8D3B44DDCD2473484C12880F7289F84-0000318644-0003218920-00640L-51B316F0FBBB4D9D9EA09A0B78F5BD37.jpg

thank goodness it's a par 5, but after I hit my tee shot off to the right of the 'marker/guide', I then hit a 3 wood to about 90 yards, and then overhit my PW to the back of the green, the flag was on the front. I stepped (with the putter) up & let it rip, and the ball tore off at a hundred miles an hour but luckily hit the flag & 'plop' into the hole, cue me jumping for joy.

I then got back in the groove and after nearly driving the 15th, I left my eagle putt just short & then had my 3rd birdie of the day. After a few pars/bogies, I was 2 over for the back 9, mightily pleased with that as the wind was unpredictable.

Unfortunately it was a team event, 2 scores to count, and we were just outside the prizes!!

The old head is just open again after the winter and while it's a little damp/bare in places, and the greens are dry & bumpy, I can honestly say it was a joy to play.

The ultimate insult. Logging my round on Golfshot it told me I hadn't completed my round when I hit save. Unfortunately I had...

    29 points (off 20).
4 greens, 4 fairways, 4 scratches, 4 net birdies and 34 putts despite picking up before I even reached 2 of the greens.

It all started well 10 points after 5 with a lipped out putt, lipped out chip and a daft 3 putt (aren't they all).

2 points from the final 4 holes of the front 9 - two tee shots to water and a three putt.

Pace of play was pissing me off (2 more names I won't play with again, what is it with aul lads with years of golf who can't do the basics of pace of play correctly?) and with the wind rising I was just mainly interested in finishing.

Positives - 5 of my non fairway drives were first cut and good.
New pitching technique works (but needs practice)

Negatives - 3 OB / Water off the tee
    swing didn't feel connected
putting is obviously a long way off

Start of the year I said I'd play more golf with people I didn't know as friends tend to not play a lot of comps.

Anyway monthly medal and I got paired with a 3 handicap! I had 94 belts that included a 9 and a missed putt from a foot!! The guy off 3 hacked his way up the first and then went on to shoot a 73!

    Warning long post!!

Played New Forest today with a friend over from Australia and my bro in law. We could have picked an easier spot to play with the gales that was blowing and having not played since the society outing in Esker Hills.
While paying for the round I was having a look around the pro shop and they had a good few demo clubs so I was looking at a Taylormade R11s driver and was thinking the white head would put me off. The guy there said i could take it out for the round if i was interested so off we went. It was set up way different to my R9 and took a few holes to get it to a setting to which i was happy with (non counting casual round) and to get used to the white. My god when i got it working did it work - I was driving like a demon!! No comparison to the R9 for distance and accuracy. Was leaving myself wedges to most of the par 4's. The confidence a good long drive to a good position gives you is a huge boost.

Anyway, after a shaky start I went through 15 holes 14 over. My whole game felt the strongest it ever felt. Driving was straight and long (measured one at 280 but had the wind with me!) Short iron play was strong and putting was good. Greens were very very fast.
Am a happy golfer here tonight!!

Forgot to add, I had a f'n 3 & one 4 putt in that mix today!

Lads please keep this thread purely for "how I scored" types posts.
All handicap and "I've handed in 3 cards" types posts can go in any number of other more suitable threads.
Otherwise the place ends up a confused mess...

    Thanks!

Played in the worst weather I have ever played in today.
    91 strokes.
I hit a 3 Wood and then a full wedge to a 180M par 3. Ridiculous wind that was carrying driving rain.
Ball was wobbling all over the place on the greens and blew off the tee twice!

Dont have a clue what my stats were as it was just miserable and cold :(
First qualifying round of the year, +0.1 even though CSS was +3!

Should have played yesterday instead :(

Played Nenagh in a society outing yesterday. My first day out as captain and proceeded to produce my worst golf of the year! 26 points off 18 including a ridiculous 5 scratches! Some of the par 3's are 190 yards long and most were into the wind requiring a driver to reach them!

Played a casual round in Ballykisteen this morning with staker and freemount09. 30 points off 18. Conditions were tough with a howling breeeze. Got heavy rain for a few holes also.

Shot 92 gross which was a 77 net today in 50mph winds. Was madness. Made a good few pars and a chip in birdie. I hit the longest drive of my life ith the wind behind me. About 320 yards. Ha ha

Played Ballymoney (Nr Gorey) on Friday afternoon... lovely weather!
    8649150646_9eab57237f_m.jpg
    38 points with 3 x 3 putts on the front 9 .
Got the speed sorted for the back 9 and had 3 x 1 putts :D

Played Druids Heath today in a gale!!!!
28 points with 4 scratches..... It was ridiculous... but a laugh!
    I actually enjoyed it.
    Crazy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,824 ✭✭✭levitronix

    A whopping 87 today
Was looking good when I drove the 5 green, but then 3 putts and few more 3 putts followed. Best part of the day was hitting 3 iron onto a 582 par 5 for an eagle put
7 GIR , 5 FIR first day off new HC and 0.1 back :)

Cheers Ballyk for showing us the way around, even if we didn't follow your way all the time !!:pac:

I ended up with 25 points off 15. I think I smashed a personal record of balls hit into water hazards !! 5 if not 6 balls into the drink !! :(

The difficult conditions, plus prioritising the banter of the casual round are my excuses for the poor score !! :pac:

Summer rules in howling wind and serious lack of interest after about 9 holes led to a .1 back 24pts for me in Moate yesterday. No part of my game was working well. One to forget quickly and move on.

31 in Tuam off 18 on Sat. morning. Weather was fine. Tees way back.
Driving and chipping poor. A couple of mental errors to boot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,944 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Ho-lee crap that was serious weather to play golf in yesterday. Probably as wild a day as I've ever played in my place (grange castle). Quite easily a 3 club wind, which on an index 1, 440 yd par 4 1st hole is certainly a baptism of fire!

Had 32 points off 12 which was chuffed with in the end.

No scratches, so scrambling was pretty solid. Only 11 points on the front, 21 on the back. Was gross -1 for last 6 holes, so the work on keeping head together when scoring poorly & focussing is bearing some fruition.

Despite getting beaten up by the weather was a very satisfying days work
