There's only been one incident like that locally here and it was the lack of a swivel hitch that was blamed for bringing the tractor over. Thinking was that the swivel allows the tanker to go without necesscarily bringing tractor.

Dealer reckoned that the swivel hitches were causing rollovers.
Have had a good few near ones with silage trailers coming off hitches and into the cab.
And loads sticking in dump trailers and lifting the tractor, good trailer brakes help control things until you get back on the ground.
Loading a digger on a narrow lane one day and it skidded on small stones on the lowloader floor, one track end up on a ditch and the other on the lowloader luckily .

What you've listed off there is ample evidence of a mis-spent youth. Like being good at snooker/pool.

Saw a new massey in a dealers yard that was a right off, he was saying that the swivel hitches are allowing the tankers to turn over bringing the tractor with them.

Nearly every lgp tank round here has been rolled at some stage.
Neighbours hispec tanks hitch had to be replaced last year and it only spreads his own slurry from 100 cows , tank was 3-4 years old
Was it replaced because of wear are it broke

Bit of a long shot lads but were any of ye at the bull sale in ennis today? There was a pirate bull lot no.15 and id like to know what he made if ye were, Just missed him going in by a few minutes :(

Was there later on so missed him. From what I saw LM bulls were making €1,700-2,500 and CH's were making an extra €500. That's based on a small sample though as I was only there for 30mins.

Do you think the mart would have a full list of prices tomorrow? It would be good to match them up with the catalogue.

I think I actually seen you in the Charolais ring but I wasnt 100% sure it was you so I didnt go over :o Most of the bulls later in the sale went unsold from what I saw, there didnt seem to be the buyers there for them. Id have had a stab at that lad if I was down in time

its a golden rule, to always be at a sale early.

There will be plenty more, I'll just have to drive a bit further the next time bob. Would have been down in time but was trying to sort out water in the winterage this morning before the cows keeled over from dehydration.

I didn't spot you, I was too busy watching a lot of my neighbours in action! You'll often catch me around lunchtime for a few minutes. Good to keep an eye on prices. Keep meaning to get in early one of the Thursdays to see a few calves and runners going through.

Redz - do you think lads took much notice of the eurostars?

Funny thing about this sale was it was all farmers and no dealers so there was a completely different dynamic. The buyer was only looking to buy 1 animal. Coupled with that the animals were sorted by age with the youngest ones going last. Therefore the average buyer at the sale had bought a more mature bull early in the day leaving value to be had at the tail end of the sale. That's my take on it anyway and maybe next year I'll keep it in mind and hopefully pick up a bargain for mopping up post AI ;).

That's usually what happens at the sale in Carrick on Shannon too. But you can't always consider a young bull to be a bargain. They can have reduced fertility, they can be pumped to the last with meal and can lose weight rapidly when let out with cows, and they can be physically weaker. There is a reason why farmers are willing to pay more for older bulls!!

Agree. Most lads are probably looking at sticking the bull straight in with a herd of cows for 12-15 weeks. However if you take it easy on him the first year, picking up 5-10 repeats for 3-6 weeks for example, he should be fine. Other than fertility testing, scrotal width is the best indicator of whether the young buck is firing on all cylinders yet.

Just a general observation yesterday having watched the LM and CH ring for a short while. Despite all the spin that the LM society have concentrated on docility, they are still like chalk and cheese. Some of the CH's could have done with strong coffee whereas some of the LMs needed valium ;).

Bit windy here but contractor rang to say he can come to spread lime - i said come on ahead before the rain comes. 1.25t/acre is what my soil analysis says is needed - i had priced for G-lime as i was thinking of spreading it myself and was quoted £112/tonne for buying 25T but can get the lime from local mill for £13/tonne collected by the contractor. I think its better in my pocket..

Is there any point/advantage to dampening down lime in these conditions? I've done it before at this time of the year in dry breezey conditions and the dust clouds can be epic. Are you losing much? Have a couple of loads to spread today and tomorrow.

the quarry will wet the load before he leaves, but yes will make sure its damp before spreading, thankfully my neighbour knows what lime is and won't have a fit when he sees 9/11 happening next door.:D

It's a sad state of affairs when we are measuring to with in 0.1 of a degree in April. As one of the priests in father Ted said "the world is fu5ked, the world is fu5ked, oh my god the world is fu5ked"

Best forget about temperatures until next week. You will only be wrecking ur head and it will not make any difference to the growth I'm afraid
