And it would probably be my first choice but Meteor are doing a €49.00 a month offer with unlimited calls/texts & 5GB Data and either Galaxy S3, HTC One or Xperia Z for free.

It's very close between the one/s3. Menu button and toggles for s3 along with no Blinkfeed but HTC has the 2GB of ram & metal body.

Nice, that's a good offer. I'll have to look into this menu thing its new on me. Can you turn the Blinkfeed off? I don't want social streaming on my main homepage. I want two widgets and my 8 most used apps.

Got my HTC One this morning in Meteor Blanchardstown.

I am in a bad mood already:(

Firstly I used MyBackUp Pro thinking that this was a handy way to transfer my apps from my HTC One X to my HTC One. The backup part of this seemed to worked fine. However, when I attempted to restore the apps to my new phone (standing beside the wifi router) it kept losing connection if i tried to restore more than 1 or 2 apps at time. Also, I thought the back up would have included app content/history as well but none of this data was available for restore.

Also, the One does not come with HTC Locations installed and you cant get it in the play store. I preferred it because Google Maps has to download the map over the network which uses up data and if you are abroad , say in the US, thats expensive. With Locations you download the map for a one off fee.

From what I've read, you can set blinkfeed to not auto-update and then set a difference homescreen as your main homescreen.

Yeah, it seems that best offer out there as I'm currently on emobile's unlimited everything for €32 a month so it's not much of a jump.

You can save Google maps in advance now

You can indeed, several in fact, up to around 80 megs each. 80 megs will get you nearly all of Dublin or most counties, with plenty of overlap. Dead simple, just make a rectangle and save, and of course it's free over wifi.

HTC's Locations is a horrible app in comparison.

Also look for a small app called - I think, on tablet atm - Map Chooser, which allows you to default clicks to Google Maps.

A big part would be whether you're going to root and run a custom ROM. I think I've had 7 or 8 flagship android phones now, and every single one has been rooted.

Even before I rooted, lack of a menu button didn't really annoy me, and toggles are easily solved with an app.

If I were you, I'd get the One. Even if you decide on the S3, you could sell the One for about €500, pick up a near new S3 for €300-350 and have change in your pocket!

My htc sensation has just bricked, bit wary of htc phones? Is the htc one the best smart phone on the market outside the galaxy s3 or iphone5?

i'd say it's hands-down the best phone on the market right now. whether it will be in a few months is a different story...

Just under their prepay phones, down the bottom. Think you have to buy €20 sim with it though.

That was on three.ie. Pretty sure they don't have the One in that section any more though.

Doesn't have a micro sd slot

It still appears to be a prepay with 3 with external memory? Does it take a standard lycamoblie SIM card? Something re a mini SIM card?Is it 4G enabled?

4G not over here yet, I'd imagine it takes a micro sim, as with the One X there is no removable memory, 32gb or 64gb.... Think only the 32gb out at the mo

It's a micro sim alright, 32GB, no removable memory, battery not removable.

No couldnt get it to work(although didnt spend too much time on it).
When I activated lightflow, the LED indicator stayed a constant green and couldn't disable with whatever settings I tried.

Clove from much of what I've seen and heard a very reputable bunch. Not always the best prices but then nobody always has the best prices on everything. They've lasted where many fly-by-nights have come and gone so that has to say something. Maybe check out some opinions on XDA Developers forums for some experienced opinions from the Android crowd.

I've bought from them, first time buyers require some additional proof of ID, though they are a reputable company and it's nothing to worry about.

Will a 4G phone bought in the UK work in Ireland when 4G technology comes here?

That 49.00 Euro deal will be extended for another few weeks and the S4 will most likely be added to it (from what i hear )

What Custom ROMs (if any) are people using with this?

Have mine rooted but not sure which one to use from here...none of them stand out to me as of yet. They all seem pretty similar from what I can see. I remember back in the days of the Desire there were a lot of different ROMs out there, with differing characteristics.

    Cheers

Had a feel of the One this morning and it's a gorgeous looking phone.
Same quality feel as the iphone 5 and I love the curved back which reminds me of the 3gs which I lament the loss of.
For me HTC phones are miles ahead of Samsung in terms of quality and looks.
Had an S3 and while a powerful phone it's horribly looking and flimsy quality.
I'd be prepared to lose SD slot and battery swapping for a phone like the One.
Although they could have worked an SD slot into the side of it much like a SIM.

Its still very early days, once the phone is more widely available the development activity will pick up. Android revolution HD would be the most popular coming from a One X owner, like you said differences will be few and faw between at this stage.
