I just did a quick comparison between Meteor and e-mobile on HTC One pricing.

I got the e-mobile pricing from a post by a moderator in their forum.

Unless I am missing something why would you choose e-mobile at all? I suppose the moderator post could be wrong but I am out of contract with e-mobile this month and I think I will be porting to Meteor.

    Meteor
Price Monthly Contract Mins Txt Data
    €199.99 €25.41 18 months 200 200 1GB
    €99.99 €40.66 18 months 400 400 2GB
    FREE €49.00 24 months Unl. Unl. 5GB

    e-Mobile
Price Monthly Contract Mins Txt Data
    €349.00 €24.40 18 months 100 100 1GB
    €319.00 €39.64 18 months 300 300 2GB
    €219.00 €49.81 18 months 500 500 2GB
    €119.00 €74.00 18 months Unl. Unl. 15GB

Right lads, I decided I'd go and buy the One afterall but I left without it.

Could someone explain to me how an upgrade works? I'm due one as I had a 2 month contract on my One X so i was hoping I'd get the phone for a little cheaper than 200 with the 25 euro contract.

But the girl in metoer said this was the price for the upgrade and the bill is actually 30 euro in store so i could actually get it cheaper online with Metoer without an upgrade.

Can anyone explain why this is?

its pretty obvious they dont care about returning customers. new customers get better deals, always have. its not limited to meteor either, or even the mobile phone market.

The glass isn't even fused to the LCD. I see a future of dust under the screen

And it looks like the volume rocker is plastic too

I saw someone dissing the verge for being unnecessarily critical of non-apple last week and thought it was a bit harsh, but feck, that author can't even string a sentence of english together. What a totally sh1t article.

It's a forum article, not a staff one. I'd regard The Verge as pretty fair and balanced website.

A lot of the comments on that post are calling it a fake, and have to agree. Was very surprised to see the screen issue, but apparently it's all a hoax. There's even (what I think is) a news video here on the alleged photos, debunking them:

Even going by photos on the web of the HTC One, there is little to no gap between the casing:

If anyone is undecided about the One, and has a few hours to spare, read this comprehensive review by Brian Klug. I'm sure it will take care of any doubts you may have.

Any more on the battery? When I got my One X I found the battery fantastic at the beginning, I was getting a day and a half out of it, sometimes more - and I'm not a light user. However almost a year later and its battery performance has degraded significantly, it won't last past 9pm if I've been using it a lot, which is very annoying. I'm not sure if the S4 would be a better option. Has a removable battery which could be handy

Battery life is good, I would normally get 4-5 hours screen on time over a day. Ultimately it will easily last a day.

It's also very unlikely that your One X battery is degrading significantly in less than a year, and it's more likely caused by rogue apps, wakelocks etc. If you do think there is something wrong with the battery, it is still under warranty anyway.

    Thanks for the link.

I can't believe people go to such lengths.

9PM:eek: Mine starts giving out around 3pm, having been off the charger since 7. I doubt I was getting to 9 even when the phone was new. My wife's X was even worse.

The battery on my One X is still very good, maybe even better with the rom I put in. Easily lasts a full day and would probably last another 6 - 10 hours of a second day if I didn't charge it.

Anyone know when the next wave of stock is due in?

Had the misfortune to order my One from vodafone.ie on March 29th last when it arrived in stock as they claim delivery within a couple of working days. They never dispatched my order although they debited my account. Sent them a couple of emails enquiring about the delay but got no reply. There is also no way of cancelling online orders form them.

Looks like I'll just have to wait till the new stock arrives and hope they will be bothered to dispatch it this time.

In the UK, currently at least the 12th. Some sites are saying later in the month. I hope the camera issue is real and not a ploy by HTC, they're pushing the boundaries of my patience. There are limits to the tradeoff of excellence v desirability.

I picked one up in Wilton, Cork this afternoon. Think they had a few more left.

It's a well built phone and a lot more impressive that my old GNex. The screen is beautiful. I need to try a 1080 hd video to see how that looks.

I'm not sure about the cover flow feature. I've learned to compartmentalise my different sources of info so I'm not used to a big list of FB statuses, tweets and news.

The best feature so far are the speakers. The GNex was pretty woeful in terms of max volume so this is a welcome change.

There's about 2 dozen phone shops in Wilton, which one?

We need someone to test that. I don't think it would be.

I got mine in Meteor on Patrick. St.

I can't test as I don't have another micro SIM to try. It's Vodafone branded (startup, shutdown & apps) so I'd say it is.

Zoe + highlights = proud parents dream, been creating videos of my son non stop since last night, it's an awesome feature

My One X was branded, but wasn't network locked.

On top of that, you can log in to My Vodafone and request the Network Access Code online....they say you have to have finished your contract, but it gave me the code for my One X when I was only 6 months into an 18 month contract. I never actually used the code though, as it worked with a different SIM when I tested it.

I agree, I've got some cool vids of the kids on Easter Sunday etc. Upload to youtube, share with the grandparents. They love it.

For the sake of a few days extra wait, i'd avoid getting a branded phone off Vodafone. Unless you unlock and root the phone, you'll be stuck getting updates months after everyone else.

If you're getting it on prepay I'd say get it from somewhere like Clove/Handtec or somewhere similar, they don't seem to be doing much subsidizing (3 are charging €599 can get it from Clove for a little over €600) so I'd much rather have it with no branding for the sake of a few quid.

For those that have it, how noticeable is the absence of the menu button? Does that black onscreen bar that replaces it in apps that haven't been updated to deal with no menu button make things clunky?

Dithering between this and an S3.
