Looks like a good job. Is that one of those Chinese head units? How do you find it?
It is, I like it because it looks very close to the real deal at a fraction of the cost.
Plug and play, DVD, Bluetooth, GPS, reversing camera plug in, digital tv tuner, micro SD, iPod, usb, picture in picture....
I'm very happy with it apart from a slightly cluttered main menu,
It also seems to have better sound quality/distribution than the regular headunit.

The seller is easyrising on ebay.

I was looking at these before getting an RNS510 but some bad reviews put me off. Good to know yours is working fine as it seems to be a lottery with the Chinese units. Certainly get a lot of bang for your buck!

All I need now is that bloody triangle socket..... Impossible to find reasonable

Could you ether weld on a standard head and take off that way, or get one of those multi spined sockets, gator grip or something I think they are called.

Delighted with it. Well worth doing great sound quality considering the cheap lead. Now I can listen to music on my iPhone in the car:)

I find that too. Just seems to be a bad design. Pain specially when you have a load of stuff in it.

I've tried all the sockets and spanners in that general size and we sure have a lot to go through  not a hope.... The collar makes an arse of it otherwise I'd get a vice grips on it. I may invest in the triangle socket when finances permit :)

Diesel filtration themed update. Bpmull: Take note :D

My car had gone very sluggish. So sluggish that at full boot, fuel would cut around 3.5k rpm. An odd sensation, accelerating by lifting off....

I change my fuel filter very often (5k max) because at £2 a shot, it's not worth skimping.

Before this mornings trip to Portadown, I changed my filter. I knew something was radically wrong this time
    Image449.jpg

I tend to fill up at the same 1 or 2 stations....
    Image450.jpg

What worries me is this crap
    Image451.jpg

And why my filter housing was caked in it :eek::eek:
    Image452.jpg

Seriously.... Wtf is that? It looks like cats sh*te

    Tomorrows update:

Dgt does an engine swap to his spare 406 engine, and frantically tears apart and rebuilds that engine inspecting for "cat shíte" :D

No idea what that is, doesn't look good though.... first port of call would be inspecting the fuel tank IMO.

DGT did someone put something in you tank for a "joke" Maybe

Just find it hard to believe that that much sh*te could come out of fuel that the car ran on at all!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,985 ✭✭✭✭dgt

Fear not, I'll whip the sender out of the tank and see what it looks like.... The last time was fairly bad in the other car....

    Thankfully I have spares!!!

An engine teardown is overdue isn't it :pac:

    Nah, something even stranger....

I woke up this morning noon and had a sudden change of heart. Now I'm restoring something petril

My main focus for today is the interior. I have the carbon effect centre console and black/orange dials to go in :D just needs a really good clean :)
    Image453.jpg

I cleaned out the excess dirt and scrubbed the seats
    Image454.jpg

And outside, I gave it a quick clean :)
    Image455.jpg

Note to the eagle eyed, front bumper has been taken off, need some wing mounts as the ones on the car are rotten :( hopefully wit some extra bits and bobs I'll have it right as rain in no time :D

I'm horrid fickle at times... :o

So you have a 156 and a 166 lying around!?

I'm not sure about the black dials. I think the white ones look pretty good!

Ah, I have the option of putting in the black dials, I likes them better :D

Changed out one of the shocks on the Mazda recently
    [IMG][/img]20130110102144.jpg

Had to move the car few metres before the new shock was fitted so subbed the shock with a piece of Timber!!!!!!
    [IMG][/img]20130110114330.jpg

Then the time for the civic to get new anti roll bar bushes and drop links

Did a minor service on the civic today, such a straightforward car to work on :)

Changed my oil, twas bloody cold doing so but a bit overdue. The colour of it was a very dark brown. Next is washing time if I can get off me whole to do so.

Last summer the starter on the Wife's Focus started sticking so took it out and gave it a good coating of WD-40. I didn't think it would work but it was perfect until yesterday when it started sticking again. I'd bought a new one in the mean time but cannot for the life of me remember where I've put it so whipped out the one in the car and gave it more WD-40. Working fine now! Had it out, oiled and in in about half an hour. Gives me a bit of time to find the new one!

Got the coolant and brake fluid changed in the Escort. Bleeding was via the two man system, and thankfully there's only one bleed nipple on the rear axle.

Unfortunately, while I was crawling under the back if the car, I found that the diff is leaking (probably the seal) and an exhaust rubber is cracked. Having checked the service history, the diff seals are original Ford, and the exhaust rubbers were last changed over 25 years ago so they were probably due a change.....

I also got the coolant changed in the Almera (easy enough once the plastic undertray stuff was removed so I could put a bucket under the rad). Now tomorrow is a brake fluid change in that also. Next on the list is a gearbox oil change....

I reckon I'm on a coolant and brake fluid fad at the moment....

Fitted new led's in the rear last week but didn't have time to take photos then, so I've a few snaps now.

One strip each side, wired through the existing ceiling light so they can be On, On with door open or off. The very low current needed means they work just fine, and the extra light at night is fantastic! Will probably integrate a couple of more strips into the second version of the storage build when I eventually get round to it.

Each strip is about a foot long, and has close to 40 led's on it.

Since it was dry this afternoon I finally got my thumb out and removed the rear seats in advance of putting it in for DOE - loads of space in the back now, and an abundance of securing points :D

    seats_gone.jpg

And to finish it off, just so I could walk away having actually added something rather than removing stuff, I finally fitted the late-night ebay whim purchase of my voltmeter (a whopping $2.45 with free postage ;) )

With just ignition on (engine had been running immediately prior to this so there was probably some surface charge resulting in the higher reading) ...

    ign_on.jpg

And with the engine warming up (looks like our alternator is pretty healthy  )

Seats but no belts - so never any passengers. Was the easiest way to transport them from the mates storage without having them flying around the rear. 8 nuts so less than 3 mins to fit/remove. ;)

Hoping to change it to crew-cab in time though as it fits within the EC requirements to be allowed (like the newer Discovery 5 seater commercial) :)

Can you do that on older jeeps?

You can if you can meet whatever requirements are asked for from the tax office.

Its a bit confusing, but there's 2 different measurements to which it can be applied - determined by whether or not there's a bulkhead fitted. Its a percentage of the wheelbase so can be applied to the likes of a LWB Cruiser, Pajero or Patrol. Couldn't be applied to a SWB or a shorter LWB - for example I'm not sure if a Mk2 Pajero would fit within the requirements.
