While that's probably the best solution, it's not a sure thing. I followed those instructions to the letter twice and had two orders cancelled. Others have also, so it's hit and miss. If you want some advice, you should maybe give it a go once and then consider using http://www.flubit.com if it doesn't work for you, like I have among others in this thread. Read back over the last few pages and you'll see that some orders have already been dispatched from Flubit.

Plus, Flubit are well-aware of our little "scheme" and they instruct RoI customers to use Parcel Motel. They even provide the URL to them.

We took some test shots using both phones today, must upload a sample of both.

It probably is a cover more than protection but it doesn't look to take anything away from the Lcd so it's doing no harm.. Waiting on better protection due to arrive in a few days.

Cool beans. Would love to see the shots when you have time.

    And one more set.

    (first sammy then nexus)

    Hope this helps.

I think the Sammy definitely has the edge, which is especially clear in the first shot. Not a big deal unless you really want a phone for its camera. It's not important to me, anyways. I'd sooner buy a slick DSLR if I wanted perfect pictures.

Thanks for the shots. It's not a terrible camera but it is a bit behind the best of them.

    Welcome.

Yep I would agree with you, sammy does better cams but (for me at least) it's not a big deal, also with Sammy's oversaturated amoled screens pics taken on the Nexus sent to the Sammy almost look just as good as ones takin on sammys cam its self... but right now (for me at least) the hardest thing to get use to is a LCD screen once more coming from an amoled.

I don't know what it'll be like for me since the I9000 has a Super AMOLED but it's only a 480x800 4.0" display, so about 230ppi. Bittersweet? Hopefully more sweet than bitter. I was put off by the LCD thing as I've always seen that as a step backwards. But to be proven wrong would be a good thing. Once we get used to the different saturation levels I'm sure it'll be fine. That said, I use a Sammy PC monitor (S24A350H) more than anything and it's LCD and LED backlit. I'm sitting right up close to that so it might be an easy adjustment for me.

Still looking mega forward to getting the phone as it's still one of the top phones out there at a price point that makes buying anything else a bad joke. The funny part of the joke is that you could sell your Sammy S III, if it's still in decent condition throughout, and get your Nexus 4 costs back. I'm not saying you should, but you most-certainly could and you'd be laughing. :)

Quick note, i see if your rooted you can get an app to set your own custom colour levels and fix the badly calibrated LG screen. So at least its only a software prob and the LCD in the Nexus itself is fine.

Absolutely, most issues are software-related. I'll definitely root, there's bound to be a stock kernel with only one thing modified - root access (like the CF-Root kernels on the Samsung Galaxies).

Ah you'll waiting into next week before you see any movement. Check your orders on the Flubit site (click the order and look at the "Order Status" tab) to see what stage it's at now.

Just ordered with Flubit myself, 4% off.

Seems too good to be true but it has got good online reviews/articles.

Nah it's damn legit. You can see on their Facebook that they allow anyone to comment and people have thanked them for a job well-done on getting them whatever item they ordered at a reduced price.

I'm heading to the States this week and was wondering if I'll be able to buy an unlocked Nexus 4 in any retailers there?

I would try ordering from the play store while there but not sure if they'd accept an Irish card for the order and also the delivery window would be a little tight.

Has anyone bought one in the States?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Rob2D

I think T Mobile were the only ones who got it in the states.

Yeah that's not great. I had a quick look around earlier in the evening to see if there is any software/modifications that can help but there's nothing really that I came across except a modification to increase the video quality and got all excited, only to find that it merely increases the bitrate from ~10Mbps to ~20Mbps, which is fine, but it doesn't help the camera itself.

On another subject, are people getting the phones with the new design tweaks? [1] [2]

People have been commenting (second link) that they have the newly tweaked phones from as early as the first week in March but some have ordered it later and got the older model. Hopefully all the older ones will be sold by now.

Mine is the old one for sure. if its only those tiny nubs that's new then I'm fine with it as its going to be living in a case almost full time anyway.

They also made the camera circle smaller without changing the lens so that it would be less prone to lens flare.

Just a note about the apples cam, I've read about the tons of possessing that's going on after you take the pic, so you never get a raw image as it should be as such, that could be at play here (also top end sammy and HTC do the same)

Can someone please post the Nexus 4 ordering url, going to try flubit

    Cheers

Sure thing. You can search on Google for the products and go to the URL. While it then says that devices are not available in "your country," the URL is still correct.

    8GB:
    https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_8GB?id=nexus_4_8gb&hl=en

    16GB:
    https://play.google.com/store/devices/details/Nexus_4_16GB?id=nexus_4_16gb&hl=en

Yep I agree with you, if you look at the pics I posted yesterday you see the same thing going on with colour saturation and sharp focus but it doesn't take anything away from my enjoying it as its a Google nexus device first and a camera second.

I download the app to have full control of colour saturation on the LCD (root needed) but so far I have not used it... I am getting more use to the saturation as it is on an LCD and want to see if I can get to the point of thinking AMOLED just look wrong (As I use to do)

lol also works for the US URL too, I gave them the USA Google to the N4 to see what would happen and they gave me the UK price back.

But won't the URLs deliver you UK content if you're coming from a UK IP? Either that or Flubit know what they're doing, I bet they got a fair few orders for the Nexus devices even before us Boardies came along. I always have my language set to English (US) in everything. I prefer the majority of US spelling and grammar to the British but some US spellings are just silly, like "tire" instead of "tyre" and "aluminum" instead of "aluminium," to name two examples.

No matter what VPN I use now, if I'm signed into my Google Account using my primary account (the one I previously ordered from), I can't access the devices anymore. I'd need to be signed out or into a different account. Ever since getting it back to the Irish Play Store, this has been the case.

I have unblock us on my router so when I wanted a link I got the US ones with the price in dollars, suppose its just a dynamic link that changes depending where your coming from as Flubit had no probs using it.
