Anyone believe that they can be used to contact the dead?

Personally I think it's better not to mess with things we don't know anything about.

I suppose it depends on if one believes in ghosts or not.

I used one to chat to a buddy of mine in Australia, all the cool kids are doing it that way now

Nope, I'd say if they're gone, they're gone - but that's just me, as you mentioned, I don't believe in ghosts so I s'pose I wouldn't believe in ouija boards either

I don't know about you but I'd love a hungry hungry hippos themed ouija board!

If a spirit world really does exist, I'm sure the spirits in it have better things to do than communicate with twatish goth teenagers through the medium of a wooden board bought in Toys 'R Us.

I wouldn't touch them. If you are religious the church is completely against them calling them evil etc and i heard a priest on the radio warning they can attract evil spirits and the like. Whatever your beliefs you don't achieve anything from them so I'd best leave it alone ha. The above posters link is not found 404

Skype are not happy about this Ouija Board expansion policy.

Not a subject for any debate, it's absolute nonsense. Throw it in the pile with psychics, faith healers, ghosts or any other illogical nonsense.

The only, useless, purpose is to fill the void of the unknown. Luckily there's no room for manoeuvre with facts.

A piece of cardboard with a few letters printed on it isn't dangerous, your mind on the other hand is.

I did the Ouija Board a few times as a teenager. Never thought much about it. Nothing happened. But I do recall that the three times I did it, my favourite budgie (I had 20 at the time, breeding flock) died after, each time. Still never thought much about it, but at 14 I did opt out of partaking, because I was a bit suspicious, and I had a pony then, and wasn't taking chances.

I only recall this because two weeks ago a friend told me that she was big into Ouija Boards as a teen, and her pets kept dying. Coincidence still, but freaky too. When I was 12 a friend at a summer camp told me she had asked the ouija board when her pony would die, it said three years, and it died very suddenly three weeks later.

I'm still, despite my best efforts to be rational, a bit superstitious.

Since electricity cast the dark shadows from homes and streets, the stories and belief in ghosts, demons, clover hoofed dancers, banshees, and witches has been in sharp decline.
Now almost everyone has a camera-phone, and yet, not a single shred of credible evidence has been recorded.

I always wished ghosts existed, because it would be exciting and cool.
But unfortunately, it appears that they don't.

I have video evidence of a centaur recorded on my phone, not posting it up here though

I'm curious to know have you ever tried it to have such a clear cut 100pc definitive opinion on it?

I heard once a friend of a friend used one was late one night on a full moon near a cemetary an they asked the spirit to give a sign an the glass started moving and Hitler's skeleton jumped out and started running around screaming at them well they all ran and wen they called the guards da next morning the house had burned down accept for a little patch of floorboard in the shape of a swastika.
Dont think we should mess with things we dont no anything about which is why i havent read anything about the ideomotor effect because i dont no anything bout it.

My previous comment may seem sceptical and closed minded. What I meant to say, in the interest of balance, was that my cousins dog's brothers owners aunt done it before and it was totally weird. They see'd a ghost and everything.

No I have never tried it. Probably for the same reasons I have not tried thousands of other ancient parlour games or old customs due to them being nothing more than for entertainment purposes. Also my belief that anyone who invests more than slight amusement in them being a total moron.

If I told you I had a magic piece of paper that could be used to talk to spirits, would you believe me?

It's a load of nonsense. I'd say in almost all cases, it's just a case of people driving themselves mad.

Seriously, why is that so many people who seem to be quite rational are so quick to jump on the "we shouldn't mess with things we don't understand" bandwagon (and where would humanity be if we never messed with things we don't understand?) when it comes to ouija boards?
They're such obvious nonsense that have been debunked time and time again, yet people still get the willies about them. It's a children's toy, and there's no evidence to suggest it has any powers!
You might as well be superstitious about Banshee Bones, for the gods' sake.

They're bloody toys made for kids ages ago. There's nothing occultish about them in the slightest

To be fair I understand why some people buy into it. Who doesn't know someone thats been stricken with grief after losing someone they love. The thought of someone offering a line of communication to those we've lost, usually having unfinished business in the case of tragedies, can appeal more than logic and common sense.
After a suicide in my family a lot of my family members flocked to psychics, when before they never would have considered it, in order to get answers to all those unanswered questions. This was due to grief and the yearning for more information.

It's just up to those of us with a level head, logic and common sense on our side to know better.

    Not for a moment.

I for one am abundantly happy that some of our species dedicate their whole lives working on the frontiers of what we know nothing about. And every year this results in our species knowing more than we did the year before.

Were we to live by your mentality our species would still think things like viruses and epilepsy were caused by demonic possession.
I suppose it depends on if one believes in ghosts or not.

Dont. Never have. Never seen any reason to.

They do nothing, absolutely nothing. They are and always have been toys whose rights currently belong to the same company who make Transformers and Battleship. (Previously Parker Brothers, who made Monopoly & Cluedo)

It's all in the mind and a fine money maker for Hasbro.

Yeah fair enough,I wouldn't classify it as an old parlour game tho. I have mixed emotions on this subject and respect both arguments however I don't agree with thinking one side are morons or daft etc. No real proof can be gained I suppose it's just what you believe
