Bills should take their chances in the second to get Barkley, Manuel or Wilson.
I reckon EJ is the Russell Wilson of this draft.

Don't see Teo'o dropping out of the first. He's improved on his 40 time now and mostly scouts would of been interested in the improvements he's made now that we are a bit further on from catfish. Ultimately barring he'll be judged on his tape. His stock alone will have dropped on his display against Alabama but he's first round worthy and I think after being overrated for quite some time I think he's going 20-32.

From what I've read Barkley had a average pro-day. He didn't dispel any doubts about his poor arm strength.

The perfect scenario for the Jags is to trade down to the Bills at 8 and take Dion Jordan.

I think most scouts and GM's would have known that his arm strength was fairly poor anyway. Generally he's an intelligent guy and is accurate. It's really hard to say who will take him. He'll need a lot of work and the right tools around him to have any success in the NFL. I still think that he'll be the longest in the league out of the QB's of this draft.

    Watched it on NFL Network.

I thought his footwork, balance etc was impressive but everyone knew that already. Very accurate on short throws but struggled to get the necessary velocity on deeper throws and with the wind in play some of them actually looked quite sloppy. Didn't learn anything we didn't already know to be honest, he won't move up or down draft boards based on today.

On a side note Robert Woods was excellent.

Poor arm strength? He doesn't have elite arm strength is what was said but its not poor by any stretch.

He had a very solid day according to most.

Depends on how you define 'poor' and by what standards. I agree that he doesn't actually have poor arm strength. But it's not an attribute of his and thus is a negative aspect of his game when your drawing an overall evaluation.

What do you mean? Poor is worse than average is worse than good is worse than great. Its that simple and he certainly is not in the poor category or anywhere near it for that matter. He has average to good arm strength just not great.

Your explaining it much better than me. I'm overstating words here. I agree with you.

Jamie Dukes brought up something on NFL.com that I thought I saw but took no notice.

Manti Te'o's body at the combine and then at his pro day. At the combine he looked a bit flabby and had no arm definition. At his pro day he looked pretty ripped.

Anyone else take any notice of this or was it just my imagination

I don't see how Geno Smith isn't picked in the top 10! He may not be in the top 10, or 20 or even 30 players in the draft (depending on your opinion) but QB's are the most important players on any team! I'd be dumbstruck if one of the Jags, Bills or Cardinals doesn't take him!

But how important is a not good QB?
The question is, is there a better QB in FA?

Not just FA but by trading.

When you look at the backups and in some cases the third stringers I feel there are some that would be the no.1 QB on the board this year. The likes of Ryan Mallett, Kirk Cousins, Stephen McGee, Brock Osweiler and Kellen Moore would be up there I think. Then you have others like TJ Yates who showed he can play in the NFL, Tim Tebow who has a playoff win even if he is not a great passer, Graham Harrell who I personally think is good enough to start for some team and there are plenty who have started and are currently backups who would probably be safer bets than anybody in this draft class and might cost less than a first rounder to get in a trade. Even Jimmy Clausen might be worth a shot over some of the top graded QBs in this class.

Well I say that but I do believe that Barkley is a surefire success in the NFL.

Has anyone managed to find the Grudens QB camp with T'eo online yet?

Jags aparently taking a good look at Barkley. http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2013/3/28/4155732/nfl-draft-2013-jaguars-usc-pro-day-matt-barkley

I'd be happy enough with him as a 2nd rounder, if we could trade down from #2 and address the pass rush with our pick then that would be ideal.

Regarding rating Barkley, teams will judge him as he fits their system, obviously he'd be a poor QB for a Vertical Offense but for a Spread scheme he's a perfect fit.

Anyone else notice Manti bulked up very quickly since the draft.

Yea I posted that yesterday. Massive difference in his physique in a couple of weeks

The sooner testing comes in the better.

Guy bulking up does not = Substance abuse you know.

Not saying he's not, but its not an impossible amount of bulk for constant workouts since the combine.

Look at the Tebow documentary on the working out he did between the Sugar Bowl game and Draft day. And he's a QB.

LB would be more focused on strength training, especially Te'o after being ridiculed for his lack of strength vs Alabama.

I'd be surprised if he had't bulked up. I'd imagine he was working on his feet for the field drills pre combine, and now on his strength and conditioning.

He wasn't exactly small at the combine either :P

Honestly it just looks like his stomach is a lot more toned and not hanging out like it was during the combine photo shoots. Certainly doesn't look "jacked up" compared to what he was at the combine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,292 ✭✭✭Justin10

At his pro day his chest is massive, the combine was a month ago.
For a athlete who would be as close to a professional to have them gains is huge

Also never said he was on steroids but the sooner it comes in the better because it gets rid of doubt of is it hard work or short cuts.

Athletes and science just get smarter about cheating. That spectre will never go away, no matter how much testing is realistically done.

Still not an excuse not to have it. Look at cycling I have no suspicion about Bradley Wiggins .

But them gains for Manti in a short period is crazy.

No one said it was an excuse for not having it.

I think people are far too quick to add question marks to people these days anyways. You'd be surprised at the physical shape of some known cheats, and I don't just mean in endurance sports.

Look at cycling again - some of the most effective drugs don't help increase muscle mass but improve endurance. For a player in the NFL that has to go at 100% for anything up to 60 or more snaps over the course of two or three hours that's at least as much of a real-time benefit as having an inch extra on your chest.

Ye I totally agree, but for Manti to to cut the weight and put on the extra muscle mass is extremely difficult in such a short period.

Surprised there seems to be no sign of T'eo's Gruden QB Camp online yet. Would have thought it would be easy to find.

Just watched some highlights of Deandre Hopkins - http://youtu.be/oTJjRlGOCjk

Have to say I'm impressed with him! He's big and strong and his acceleration after the catch and his change of direction are very good! Kind of reminds me of Anquain Boldin!

Only 2 issues I'd have are he seems (at least in those highlights) to have a number if passes come off his hands and also it's a bit difficult to see how much attention Sammy Watkins was getting accross from him! I'd say Watkins probably got most of the attention!
