I think it's the green eyed irish monster blatantrereg, people here are jealous because...

    1. A public representative made a public representation (inappropriately).
    2. A woman tried to better her families situation (beyond her means, a lá Sean Quinn mentality - what have we learned?).
    3. A woman works for a charity organisation but gets paid (not enough for a mortgage though).
    4. A politician gets his name in the headlines for doing something (inappropriate publicity stunt).
    5. A musician actually might have an income more than theirs (not really though seeing I have a mortgage and he doesn't).

Funny the way most if the people here are siding with what olivia o leary called a ' protestant institution' .... Still tugging the old forelock to our colonial forefathers I see

    See my bold above.

Who is a protestant? Olivia O'Leary? Colonists? What? This is going a bit Jim Corr now.

Enda Kenny has more civic duty in his wee finger than some of his critics here.

Before you hurl a tirade of vitriolic abuse at the man ask yourself this

    'What would you have done?'

Not demanded that she be given a mortgage without knowing her financial situation!

i would have explained some real world economics to her, i would ask her how does she intend to pay each month, also would she have have enough to live on, plus a little for the emergencys which happen in real life, i would then ask her how could a failed bank expect to accomadate her since requests like hers caused the bubble and in turn the collapse of the economy, enough.

She asked him how to get a mortgage.
He showed her that the correct procedure is to ask a bank for one.
    What's the problem?

I was trying to be humourous tbh. Reinterpretting the situation as like someone giving a lost person directions.

When did Olivia O'Leary say that about BoI? Given that she converted to the Church of Ireland [because of RC scandals and disallowing women priests], I doubt you're representing her comments in context, if they are accurate at all. I'm a protestant myself. You might be surprised how utterly people don't give a sh!t.

"Tugging the lock towards our colonial forefathers" LOL. What planet are you on?

My own colonial forefathers would have only ever voted Fine Gael incidentally, not that that should have any relevance whatsoever.

That's common sense, but it's not good politics.

People don't being like being told what they don't want to hear, a quick skim of these threads tells you this.

A woman approached Kenny looking for help. Enda helped her. Big ****ing deal.

How much do 'self employed musicians' earn these days?

Hang on..our leader is demanding that the bank lend a quarter of a million euro to a self employed musician and a volunteer...

    No

    Somewhere between busker and Bono.

The problem here is that he was out canvassing, therefore it was Enda the politician (on the clock) walking down the street not the Enda sitting in the stands ( off the click) up in Castlebar on a sunday afternoon watching the footie.
It's wholely inappropriate behaviour from an elected official, operating in an official capacity, to walk in to any business and tell them how to do their job.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Does not compute... why would anyone be jealous of any of these made up 'reasons' you mentioned?

Jealousy is the usually the retort of someone incapable of constructing a proper argument as they're views don't hold much water.

If she wants a home then she should set her sights a little lower than a 250,000 euro property.

Jesus women you cant have everything!

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and taking that as a spelling mistake.

Now we know the tactics used in Europe, "can we get our debt payments reduced, please? No? OK then, thanks"

If they don't earn enough to tax, you can be sure they don't earn enough to pay the average mortgage in Meath. If he pays tax, there will be accounts. AFAIK if you have a few years accounts showing the required income, the banks equate this to payslips for a salaried/waged PRSI person? The harsh reality may be that they just can't afford the mortgage.

Can someone explain to me why Edna Kenny is not at work?

We pay him more than the Americans pay Obama, yet he's sauntering around the streets in the middle of the day trying to get one of his own elected while interfering with other people's work.

Surely he should be trying to get some of the 400,000 people back to work instead.

So Enda decides to try bully a bank into giving a sizeable mortgage to a family whose only income is from a self-employed musician (ie. no job security) for about 200k (house costs 250k)?
Is it not idiotic lending like this that got us into this mess?
And all just to try garner a few extra votes in an almost meaningless by-election.

yes and we're the ones allowing all of this ya know!!:mad:

Reminds me a bit of when Charles Haughey and Garrett Fitzgerald abused their positions to get huge overdrafts written off.
Reeks of strongman rule and damages our democracy.
The only difference is that Enda is doing it for someone else, but since he's really doing it for the political gain of himself and his party that's not much of a difference at all.

    Bit twee...

But a lose-lose situation either way, because someone would poke holes in it. Must've been ****ing gas for the people in the bank however. If only for the humour value, I support this.

We pay him more so he doesn't have to suppliment his income with assistance from Bechtel, MPIAA and Lockheed ****ing Martin.

I still don't know what his job actually involves, tbh. Everytime I open a newspaper, I seem to see a new picture of him at some photocall or other.

If we knew beforehand that the Taoiseach was going to be working as some kind of professional model, we should have voted for the Green Party. At least then we'd have a nice collection of Eamon Ryan photos.

Edna Kenny is one third mayor Quimbey , one third yokel and one third Alan partridge.

Mr potato head has more cop on than that Kenny plank.

I could be wrong but I though this is how it works
    Step 1: Have a job
    Step 2: Save up money
Step 3: Go to bank and they look at income and job security to see if you can afford to repay them.
Step 4: Get a mortgage you can afford

If you have to live with your husband and daughter in 1 room I get the feeling you don't complete these steps, otherwise you would rent a 2 bedroom house/apartment and then wouldn't "need" to buy a house.
