Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Some nice bargains in Lidl this morning.

Stainless steel weed fabric staples for 2 euro.

Spring loaded plant ties for 2 euro.

Stainless steel bulb planter for 3 euro.

I went in yesterday for the bulb planter, but came out with a fork as well. Was impressed with the handle length compared to normal ones, which tend to be a bit small for me.

Had a look at the forks and spades while buying my bits and bobs.

The fork would make for a good potato fork allright....:)

In case anyone is interested I bought the Lidl petrol leaf blower on Saturday €150 and have been out in the garden using it this afternoon. I've used Stihl and Husky backpack and hand held leaf blowers commercially in the past and this one holds up well against them. Negatives are the "wand" joints are a bit stiff compared to the very much more flexible expensive brand names and there is a small issue with the spark plug cap which nearly had me return the item until I spotted what was wrong. I had to line up the connector in the cap with a pair of long nose pliers before it fitted over the plug.

I'll be using it in a large garden where I edge off the grass and don't pick it up and just blow the grass back in under the shrubs also when strimming I'll use it to clean up strimmed debris off the shorter cut areas. Lots of other uses but will probably never get used for blowing leaves the wind shifts them all up the valley very quickly.

I'd say it was a bargain but only if its an item you are going to use regularly. Will post back if it gives any trouble, now where did I put the receipt?

Edit> Comparing it with some others I can find online it looks similar if not identical to a Ryobi blower and this Draper one http://www.worldofpower.co.uk/draper-pb30-30cc-backpack-petrol-blower.html

These Aldi Basket Plant Plug Packs are fantastic value in my opinion. I'd hold off planting them outside until the end of next week though as the forecast is for severe cold and snow from Sunday onwards which would likely kill these off pronto.

24 quid for a ahiplap fence panel is about as good as it gets.

Thats what most of the builders providers are currently charging.:)

    Excellent. Thanks for the link.
A load of us on the road got double picket fencing a few years ago and got a good deal because we bought them in bulk.
However, I only did one side at the time. Might ask the new neighbour if she wants to go 50/50 and get some to replace the dividing fence between us. The original one is still just about standing and is in awful condition.

Readers might bear in mind what is what. There's a big difference between a Shiplap panel and a Lapped panel. The latter is basic and commonly available < € 20.00/panel, so €20/panel is no bargain.

    Similarly a 4.8m x 150mm Shiplap/weathersheeting boarding is a narrower size of the usual size (170mm x 5.4m) and at € 8.50/length is no bargain either.

More like spot the con and not a bargain.

Do you ever stop whinging and complaining??

Thats all you ever do on this forum.

You dont post any bargains though for some strange reason......

So either post a bargain or 2 or else go off and complain elsewhere.

What's the point in posting about 'bargains' if you cannot tell the difference between a shiplap panel and a lapped panel?

Paddy, I may not be Sonnenblumen's biggest fan, but he is entitled to his opinion on something like this if done so in the proper manner. You both have history, fair enough, but you have no right to tell Sonnenblumen to stop posting in this thread.

Well maybe he could actually back up his post above regarding PT fence panels and shiplap cladding comment of "20 euro and 8 euro 50 cents being a con and not a bargain".....funny that I dont see any prices/links from him on this thread.....wonder why???

So instead of constantly posting these types of posts...maybe he should go and post an actual gardening bargain or 2 (with links/pics) on this "gardening bargain alerts thread"..........for a change.

    Thanks.

Aldi have some great selections of bedding plants and hanging baskets - http://aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_26491.htm. People were wheeling out trolley loads of the stuff this morning in the Bray branch. Missed the begonias but am sure they will be back. Spent most of the day planting them, in the sun, great stuff!

Not all rhodo's are invasive... azalea's are now classified as rhododendrons as well, and they are tiny and well behaved. But yeah, those massive ones that spread like crazy are bad news alright.

Only Rhododendron ponticum, and lesser so, Rhododendron luteum are invasive in Ireland or Britain.
