Hey, just wondering if anyone put in for the currently advertised transferee recruitment process to psni? Cheers

There is one person who successfully transferred into the PSNI. His name on here is Itwasme. There was around 80 transferees who went through a cut down version of the 20 weeks, and are now all in their stations.

I'm not really a fan of this stealth recruiting. I think it's unfair to the people of Northern Ireland who know their communities, and have a genuine desire to serve. 80 transferees is 80 jobs. Granted it's cheaper to get readymade cops that you just unpack, leave them to thaw out for 5 weeks and they're ready to hit the streets (give or take a few days here and there).

Just thinking... if people out there REALLY want into the PSNI, then join another force in GB, do your probation in that force, and then transfer in! By the looks of things, you'd be in quicker than if you sat around waiting for a Recruitment Campaign, because Matt Baggott (I think) said that the next Recruitment for Student Officers will be when Desertcreat is built and ready for business. They haven't even broken ground there yet because there's still a shortfall of millions of pounds to get it built.

Do you think that recruitment for new students may occur after the latest recruitment for transferees ends?
We are hoping the freeze has started to thaw!!

A lot depends on the amount of transfers- As mentioned by someone else they have extended the application time, for one reason or another. If they got another 80-100 and retained some of the officers due to retire they could possibly not bother recruiting until desertcreat although I seriously hope not .... I wonder how they expect to maintain 30 ish % RC representation if they keep on transferring people as around 72 officers is 1%

A recruitment campaign will start in 2013.

I agree with shield about the transferee programme. It has its place but it should be part of full recruitment process. If they pass the recruitment phase then put them in the transfer package while everyone else does the full course. It has really annoyed(I'd love to use a different word here) me to see nearly half of the transferees resign and return to their previous forces. That's a ridiculous number considering it hasn't even being two years.

People seem to think that this job is easy and it'll be similar to working in GB. Trust me and the other guys who say it, it's not and it won't get easier. I came to this force with a lot of service already done, I found it tough to adjust and I feckin lived here! I know one person personally who went through the training and was delighted to get the warrant card. Then he arrived home with his weapon after completing that bit of training and reality kicked in for his family and I suppose for him as well.

He put his wife and kids first and had to walk away. It gutted him but sometimes not everyone likes 'the greener grass'. It's just a thought but being a peeler up here is like nowhere else. It's not just you who joins the police when you put on the uniform. Not trying a be all doom and gloom here, but sometimes a reality check is good to focus the mind

A few years ago my family was all supportive of me joining the police, even though I must have drove them mad talking about it. Now however, they clearly state they would be happy if I never got in. I sort of understand, I have friends in the PSNI and it is worrying when you listen to the news about incidents involving officers, it must be hundreds of times worse for their relatives. But then I hear how happy they are at their job and I want a piece of that.

It's has nothing to do with any of my friends or relatives if I apply or accept a post. It may be hard on the relatives but its my life and I choose what I want to do for a career not them.

Very valid point re family - A child or children could changes a persons point of view, ive said it before that there are easier ways to earn more money, However if its your dream as it is mine then I will join and not look back. I have neither wife nor children.

I have a wife and tbh that's my many worry that she could be caught up in anything.

But she knows how much I want this and is fully behind me.

Once you have the support of your wife and kids then everything else is easier to deal with. As you said Gee, the main worry will be your immediate family. But I've noticed that as long as the worry is in the back of my mind I don't take chances re security. Some people do and good luck to them but I can't let anyone get hurt or worse because I was lazy.

I wrote the original post because of some people sugar coating the situation, the reality hits home and then suddenly their walking away from their 'dream job' after 12 months.

Just keep your family in the loop about what's happening and then you'll always have a support network there for the s..te days.

Almost 3,000 police officers volunteer for G8 security duty

The Police Service of Northern Ireland says nearly 3,000 officers from forces in Britain have volunteered to be part of the huge security operation for the G8 summit in County Fermanagh in June.

That is in spite of police unions in the rest of the UK advising their members not to volunteer until safety and insurance issues are resolved.

The security operation will be the largest the PSNI has ever mounted.

World leaders gather for two days at Lough Erne golf resort in Fermanagh.

I find it strange that Northern Ireland was chosen as a venue, bearing in mind the amount of pressure and the working conditions that the PSNI is under just now. ”

    Brian Docherty
    Scottish Police Federation
It will be the first time the annual summit has been held in the United Kingdom since it was at Gleneagles in Scotland in 2005.

    'Threat'
More than 5,000 officers will be on duty around key sites.

They include the Lough Erne golf resort and Belfast International Airport, where US president Barack Obama, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and others are expected to land before being taken to Fermanagh by helicopter.

The number of officers needed is more than the PSNI can provide so more than 3,000 officers will be from other police forces in Britain, brought in under what is called an agreement for mutual aid.

Police unions in Britain have advised their members not to volunteer for duty until a range of issues are resolved.

Brian Docherty, chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, said: "I find it strange that Northern Ireland was chosen as a venue, bearing in mind the amount of pressure and the working conditions that the PSNI is under just now.

    Oversubscribed
"Officers are under threat every day. It is a whole different form of policing from that we know back in (the rest of the) UK.

"To enter G8 into that particular mix, I find it unbelievable. I find it strange that they would do that."

But the BBC understands that an initial request for nearly 3,000 additional officers has been oversubscribed, with some forces having to run selection processes.

Rumours are going around on the twittersphere that PSNI in Derry/Londonderry have intercepted a van which had its roof cut out so it could launch four mortars from within.

I hope its all not true but it made me sick to my stomach to hear about it, i haven't felt like that since Ronan's murder. If its true im so glad it was intercepted in time.

Local North-west paper reporting three mortars in a van with a hole cut in the roof and police came under attack with bricks and petrol bombs as they ushered people away from the vehicle!

Very worrying, many police officers were killed by these types of weapons, the most prominent one was nine police officers killed in Newry by just one mortar striking their station.

Crazy! Those that are involved in these attempts are dragging us back in time! These attempts make me really angry, and even more determined!

I must say I am very impressed with the work the PSNI are doing at the minute. Recent events really could have been terrible but the PSNI seem to be kicking ass as far as getting these things of the streets. Really well done to whoever is gathering intelligence and those making the arrests!

I would love to know how long the people arrested will be going down for- does anyone know?

One of those officers was related to a boardie.

Anyway, last nights operation is nothing new. There are about 3 or 4 alrerts everyday and devices being found on a weekly basis.

In terms of things last night, I would say there is more than just the PSNI involved in thwarting these attempts.

Sorry to hear that. Hope the boardie was lucky and got started in the PSNI.

The PSNI hopefully have enough intelligence on these guys to thwart all their attempts.

Hampshire police reject £19000 starting pay for new recruits. Hopefully the PSNI will do the same.

To be honest, I wouldn't reject a £19,000 salary. Suppose it all depends what you are used to/expect.

@gigity_gigity lol they'll probably get a 3 month suspended sentence and 10 hrs community service

It would be a bit of a cut for me tbh.

I think it would be very unfair to expect someone to deal with the things a psni officer and their family has to deal with for a very basic wage.

Thats a down side for those who are paid higher. I was working out my salary and it turns out I'm getting paid more than that at the moment also. But I am coping quite well on my wage rate so could probably cope with the drop if that was pushed through.

So, recruitment is a possibility between this April and next April.

Whilst I would love for recruitment to start closer to this April I wont lose any sleep if it is closer to next April! As long as it starts!!!!!!!
