How do I stop consoles from yellowing? I've a SNES that looks lovely at the minute but I fear it'll go the way of a PS1 I bought the other day which is basically yellow! I've heard about a UV resistant coating but how the hell does that work?

The yellowing is a result of the chemical makeup of the plastic itself - it doesn't have much to do with UV.

If it hasn't yellowed by now it probably won't. Best to just keep it out of direct sunlight anyway.

There's a pretty decent sale on XBL at the moment, due to expire some time today: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056887806

Might be of interest to some of ye with your 360s gathering dust! Picked up KoFXIII, MGS: Peace Walker HD and Max Payne 3 for a fiver each.

Seen that yeah, some fantastic value. I have a real compulsion to always buy physical media though, I generally never buy digitally if the game is available physically. Its the collectors curse :(

At the prices some of these games are going at, I'd buy them digitally and see it as more of a rent-for-as-long-as-you-like type deal. Then delete them when I can pick up a hard copy.

Yeah some digital prices are so crazy low I long ago learned to at least lighten my alliance to physical copies. Some of the bargains scored through Steam or increasingly PSN have made the decision extremely easy. KoFXIII is the only game on the XBL sale the collector in me would consider a potentially valuable physical investment anyway (and the HD MGS is an upgrade from my UMD PSP copy)!

The price is definitely a positive, Steam can be unreal value at times {sales}. But speaking of consoles only, what happens when XBL is unplugged for the 360 & then your hdd dies a while later? Buying digitally means you don't actually own the game {non intellectually of course}, wheras having a physical copy not only looks the dogs collection wise...but it can kept indefinitely.

Where the difference is small, say under a tenner, I'd much rather spend the few extra quid on a physical copy. The sales though really throw a spanner in the works

Just throwing this out there, i have a website that up until christmas was basically news\reviews site, but due to lack of time from myself and others on it, its fallen by the wayside. so ive decided to change it up and use it as a blog type thing for retro and arcade repairs etc.. whatever basically.

I wont post the link, because of boards rules, but we where popular enough, got loads of games and consoles sent out during the last few years from the game developers, anyways, if anyone would be interested in using the site to post any retro\arcade related things, be it, news, retro reviews, repair logs or anything at ll in the area give me a shout.

I take it's not the one in your sig? Boards rules prevents you from linking to your own blogs/sites? Sure other folk do that without issue it seems.

I forgot it was in the sig haha, I wasnt sure if i could post it, was just being cautious i guess.

was in the relocated 3D Games (now on the quays around the corner from Lower Liffey Street), and their "opening sale" prices were ok but nothing special, but what surprised me was the condition of the game cases.

the clear plastic of the cases was damaged or warped, and alot of them looked like the cover art had gotten wet. they obviously were'nt stored very well since they closed the Grafton Street shop.

I've never set foot in RAGE or anything of its ilk. After years or selling games and consoles I'm now in the process of buying all my old stuff back due to my emotional attachment to my gaming childhood. It's not surprising though my dad owned a SNES and thought me how to play Super Mario World! I've been hooked ever since. I'd never sell anything gaming related anymore because I've recently in the past 1-2 years been buying back my old PS1 and SNES collection.

Is eBay cheaper than the RAGE?

Considerably. Then again, most things are. RAGE's pricing is up there with Gamexchange/Book Mart now.

It can be yeah but I haven't been raging in ages. Prices on ebay are getting ridiculous though better off just given me what you have accumulated recently for a nominal fee of course. In my direction bybtge by.
You should just go US snes its cheaper and faster so you can play more in same time frame, its like time travel.

The thing about eBay is that you can also get bargains, not to mention the other places about where good deals can be had, Amazon is often very good, Jamma+ have a sale /trading forum where I have gotten good stuff, then there's Adverts, Donedeal and Gumtree. So, outside of Rage, CEX, Bookmart and eBay there are some good sources, and that's not including Charity shops and car boots /Sunday markets.

I flogged off all my stuff at one stage too. I was in my teens, and I thought to my "why would I need video games? I can score chicks now!", and stupidly sold my games off for little or nothing. Turns out, I couldn't score chicks either, so it really wasn't a great plan! I've been building the collection back up ever since. I have shed-loads more games now than I had back then, but there are still a few from that era (the likes of Twisted Metal, and Crime Killer) that keep eluding me.

Videogames were about the only thing I didn't sell when I made the transition to girls and booze being cool.

I can remember my mam actively trying to get me to sell my Megadrive to fund a Playstation. So glad I didn't, would still be regretting it to this day.

I've been quite lucky since I started collecting again though (or started collecting properly), and I've gathered most of y old favourites, and a whole lot of new ones too. I am still kicking myself over selling them, but I know I'll come across new copies of them again some day, so it's all good.

    As did I!

My mega drive collection was reduced to one console and a copy of bram stokers dracula.

makes me proud to see what it has grown into today!

Ah yeah, they're easy enough to replace...just I'm really nostalgic when it comes to original items. Something special about having my original Megadrive still under the tv ;)

I know :( I didn't see games the way I do now back then though...I'd no real interest in having a collection...I just wanted the latest & greatest console with no real regard for what came before it. I'm the opposite now :o

I was never cool so have still yet to make that transition.

For me, it was the most amazing technological leap I've ever witnessed first had in gaming. Literally blew my mind at the time. I was ape **** about the thing. So I can understand someone wanting to sell 16 bit stuff to fund their step into exciting new 3D worlds. I sold a shed load of stuff to fund my one. (To think, it was only £129!)
