I bought an absolutely mint, and I mean mint, 90k miles Avensis 1.8 petrol automatic today, it's an 01, could pass for a 09 on condition. Utterly, totally, the best used car I have ever driven. Not a scratch, mark or scuff anywhere. Not one rattle and the auto-box is smooth as silk. I am now wondering why I ever left Toyota, ever bought a manual and ever paid big money for a car. Cost? €1250.00 and I would not swap it for a 131 anything. Very, very happy camper at the mo.:):):)

Congrats. There's something great about an old well minded car.

And better still, it is the 1.8 16 valve VVti with that gas "power" button on the transmission which equals many, many more smiles per gallon. Like Vtec without the image problem! Press the button and giggle like a sixteen year old.:) I'm a very happy motorist tonight. :D

Don't get too carried away, it just means it changes up later!

I've had manuals. The auto is better. Very, very smooth box. Flawless changes in fairness.

Vanishing Point is currently on Film 4. Dodge Challenger is the star performer. Another hour to go. Well worth the watch.

Anyone a member on fortyacresofyellow? I'm kinda interested in a car for sale on there, a 99 is200 but there's no contact details in the add, don't even know where in the country it is. Don't want to go signing up to the site, I wouldn't log in enough to make it worthwhile. Hoping sumone might be able to help, thanks.

Why not? Does it cost anything to sign up now?

No, doesn't cost anything but I've no valid email address at the moment and you need one to sign up, so I'd have to go setting up another email account and I've only 3G reception and I'm always losing reception, so I just thought itd be easier to see if anyone knew the seller or the car.

Got the car service and Terracleaned. Car feels amazing!

    pic made me Lol:D

You reckon its worth the money then?

Cant wait to get mine done, i'm expecting a smog cloud (its daysul) ;)

Did your car sound wierd while it was running on the 'stuff'

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,720 ✭✭✭Hal1

It does idle a bit differnet while its running. Sounds like it's misfiring a bit, but it really does the whole system a world of good. My car is so quiet and just seems better to drive since I got it done (1.6 focus petrol). Nearly a month since I've had mine done now. Some cars will notice it more than others I'd say, mainly bigger engined barges or smokey daysul yolks. :)

That pic is fkn funny btw :D.

Damnit, I'm tempted to try this terracleaning lark now. Anyone done it on an older car? What was the maintenance schedule like beforehand any "italian tuneups" etc? what was the difference in MPG and running? Will it break my engine :P?

Went in to ford this morning 78.10 euro Plus vat for the intercooler pipe. And after going to a few places it seems its only ford dealers sell the part motor factors don't sell a spurious one. So looks like ill have to order that on Monday they don't stock them. It's not even the cost its the fact that its ultimately a short piece of rubber pipe and its going to cost a 100 odd euro. I bought a oil filter while I was in there so I will service it some stage next weekend.

Going to look at this micra today for the missus. http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/4650382

Looks nice and clean. Is 120k miles high for these engines?

Looking at this with lower mileage too. What do you's reckon?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Jimdagym

So I was driving home from the shop with the shop with mrs Dagym today and as we passed the graveyard she commented that the hearse pulling out was a skoda. She said she didnt know skoda's made hearses. Without thinking I asked her is she sure they didnt just bring the coffin in the boot of an octavia.

Of course, I had completely forgotten that I wasnt on boards, and that she wouldnt get the reference, but even still, there was some dirty looks of disgust out of her at me!!! :pac:
