As mentioned in the bargain alerts thread, picked up a few Castle Rock Harvest Ales, very tasty indeed.

Have to say thanks to this thread and its posters, since coming across it I ve really enjoyed trying craft beers and havent been near any of those mainstream ones in a long time

I'm looking to try a Rauchbier, can anyone recommend one to me, and where I'd get it.

    I live in Finglas.

The Missus got me some 5am Saint, bottle of Tokyo and abstrakt 06 for our anniversary. Don't know which one to drink first!

Was extremely disappointed by 2, never got 1.

1 is superb. I also thought 2 wasn't great at all.

I have a bottle of Soriachi Ace in the shed waiting for me. Has anyone tried it

Winter Hook #28 by Red Hook. Beautiful!

In the same vein as 5AM Saint but not quite as sweet.

Carry out off licence in Ashtown also has Schlenkerla (the one linked to on Drinkstore website). It's probably the smokiest smoke beer of all! Good place to start!

Picked up 4 bottles of Leffe as it's €6.50 for 4 bottles in supervalu and I hadn't had it in a long time.

It's such an "meh" beer. Only "good" thing about it is that it hides it's alcohol content well...

Don't think I'll be buying more after these 4 are gone...

Payday weekend, I'll pop up there tomorrow for a mooch around. Cheers!

It's nice on tap, less so from a bottle.

If you are referring to Brooklyn's Sorachi Ace, yeah I tried it ages ago, wasn't too impressed. One of the nicest smelling things ever, but the taste let it down. Wasn't worth the extra cost.

Brewdog's recent Hoppy Christmas used sorachi ace in it(amongst others).

Got this in work, pretty similar to other Saisons I've had but its orangey rather then lemony. Its ok, not the kind of beer I'd order but nice.

Got myself a bottle of White Gypsy American Pale Ale yesterday and shared it with friends. We all agreed that while quite nice it certainly wouldn´t be our favourite. For me O´Haras IPA is better. They both have the citrus whack but I find O´Haras more complex. White Gypsy has around 2% more ABV and I think that might have masked some of the crispness I expected. Definitely worth trying though.

Finished off my stash of Red Hook beers this evening with their ESB and Long Hammer IPA. Really impressed with all their beers. The IPA reminds me of Jarl.

Béal bán and carrig dubh from west Kerry brewery.

The béal bán was nice, the carrig dubh was exceptional.

I had a Brekle's Brown Ale by Anchor Brewing over the weekend. It's different from most other American brown ales I've tried, probably due to the use of citra hops which give it a tangy bitterness. An interesting beer, but it didn't quite work in my opinion. I'll be sticking with their Liberty Ale and Anchor Porter from now on.

The White Gypsy APA is a lot more citric/grapefruity than O'Hara's IPA, as well as stronger, so I wouldn't directly compare them. But I like them both, a lot!

Over the weekend had the Mikkeler Beer Hop Breakfast - I'm not a big fan of coffee-flavoured beer, and wasn't entirely looking forward to this, but it was fantastic! Tastes like... a rich smooth chocolate/espresso-y stout, but dry-hopped American IPA-style! Wierd idea, but they pulled it off. Nose is almost grass-like (not the kind you walk on), and the fresh hops fight it out with the roasted stoutiness, but in a good way!

I must have got a dud bottle because I didn't find this at all.

Red Dog "Premium Beer" pretty bland American beer sold as a top USA beer in this Korean bar.
Better than Budweiser but not much better.

Yep, that's basically what I said. There's a big difference in the ABV, which is obviously something of a game changer. I did enjoy it but for €8 in Deveneys I don't think it's worth it.

I'd also agree with you about the grapefruit flavour being stronger in the White Gypsy ale than in O'Hara's offering. I had both on Saturday night and found that O'Haras had a much fresher, rounded flavour.

    A Schneider Weisse Tap 1.

Bloody delicious as expected, but it has a strange mouthfeel. Anyone else find this?

Got to try McGrath's Stout and Red Ale at the weekend. The stout was bitter and yeasty. It tasted foul. The red fell apart in my mouth, taste wise. The weak ale fell away leaving a cheap alcohol taste.

    O'Hara's need not worry.

Had a McGrath's Stout my gf brought me there a about a week ago, it was a little too fizzy but once that passed I found it smelled like dark rum and tasted bitter, like burnt dark chocolate. I enjoyed it though. A mouthful for a 4.3% beer. I only tried the red before they rebranded and remember thinking it a little thin.

Had an Anchor Porter last night, lovely stuff. Highly recommended.

Cafri - Oriental Brewery Co., Ltd - another bland beer I'm afraid but did remind me if Carlton Cold beer in Australia for some reason.

Picked up a bottle of Dungarvin Coffee and Oatmeal Stout. I'm looking forward to trying it as it seems to be well thought of here.

I grabbed a four-pack of Leffe on a whim while in the supermarket. I thought I'd tried it before but evidently not. The taste is overwhelmingly of clove. It's drinkable but I certainly wouldn't buy it again.
