    And.....!! whats your point.

My point is, while the 24/7 brigade get their fill of OT there are other PS employees on low pay who have to work other jobs and still don't come close to the 24/7 lofty heights...

    Grow up ffs would you..

If your that caught up on overtime, give up your job and train as a guard or firefighter. Then you can have overtime and allowances coming out your ears.

My Cerebral Palsey prevents me from doing so...:)

Now you do know there is a difference between putting your life on the line, dealing with death and injury in an A&E and sitting behind a desk 6.45 hours a day don't you. Tell you what go see if there is a space on the government side of the table...............

Well then why do you so begrudge someone who works 24-7 overtime. It's starting to sound bitter.

I am a grade 5 in the PS and would never, ever begrudge 24-7 staff their allowances or overtime. I admire these nurses etc that trained for years to become what they are. And I find it distasteful that other PS workers are now turning on these people............FFS if PS workers cannot at least support each other without bitching about allowances that some get we really are fcuked.

Personally I think the government should get the hell out of the pension business and do similar to, say Sweden, where government employees have private pension arrangements similar to their private sector counterparts. If this was to happen then naturally your pensions contributions would be refunded, or at least transferred to a pensions company. The pension levy was a pay cut (as we are constantly remined) and therefore would probably be retained.

I have posted this many times on this forum. I believe PS pensions should be abolished and you are left to arrange your own pension.

PS can then rely on the OAP from the state plus whatever pot/fund they wish to build up in the meantime.

    100%
People seem to ignore the fact that the state pension is means tested for PS workers, This works out at approx 80e from the state instead of 236e, saving the state 144-154e on average. This is on top of the fact PS workers contribute hugely to their pension.

These figures are based on 40k salary..........

Your salary is not being effected, just your OT rates. OT that you have on tap.

Privilege positions that you hold will rmeain intact and your ignorance of the plight of people who don't have the opportunities to earn you have is selfishness in the extreme...

I can tell you that 90% of PS workers would take that up.

I recently spoke to a broker who looked at my contributions and was amazed.

Sweet Jesus, read 3 or 4 post above. I am a grade 5 not a 24-7 worker. But this does not surprise me as you seem to have a bitter agenda that clouds you're judgement.

What are you on about. We pay a pittance in Super Annuation and get a massive lump sum and nice pension until we shuffle off. Its the main reason I joined the Civil Service...

Simplistic retort that dodges my point. We have great pension package. Why lie..?

So your salary is sh1te but your pension and lump sum are huge.

    Interesting.

Not a bit. The fact remains for the the 24/7 cohort, their salaries will remain untouched...

Have you worked out what you pay against what you will get back, I assume no.
You say you are a low paid CO but let's assume your on the max salary of a CO at 35k.

On retirement you will get 50k, and PS pension is only 5k per year after 40 years of contributions.

As above, how can your salary be so crap but pension be great?

Unless you have actually spoken to 90% of PS workers about their pensions, I think you should probably stick with talking about your own opinion. ;)

Where else will I get a year and a half salary as a lump sum and half my weekly wage for a few euro a week in contributions..?

All private sector pension funds provide for this as its the max threshold for revenue purposes, providing you pay enough in that is.

How much do you pay into your pension per week?

    Ok, so update :

You earn 28k per year as per your previous posts on this thread.
That means you will earn 14k pension on retirement, funny thing is that joe next door to you that never paid into a pension in their life will get 12.5k. Now your PS pension is only worth 1,5k. In fairness, add in your lump sum of 42k and your contributions will have met this target in a standard savings scheme over 40 years plus some!

    Further update : http://m.pensionsboard.ie/

To get your pension fund you would only have to save about €75 per month!
That covers your weekly pension payment.
Lump sum of 42k would require about €80 payment per month, so that's a total of €155 per month!

Please post up you PS pension payments for clarity, if you don't want to then that's fair enough. Thanks.

I have taken whats called a straw poll of 100 staff. and 90% have said they would take this option. So I'll use that if that's alright with you.

I think I will wait until I see something factual, if thats alright with you. Though I accept that there are at least 90 public sector employees who would prefer private pension arrangements.

I'll check out my online payslip in the morning and get back to you on the details... However for the few bob I pay in for what I get in return is superb value.

In fact I'm buying nine years of notional service at a tiny cost of €12 a week...

So you spoke to 100 people about their pension options, which in my experience takes a bit of time, to give an accurate assessment of their options, explaining all the in and outs of what is a complex financial product...

I gotta ask...should you not have been working?

That's strange, the cost for me to buy ones years notional service was 13k and from looking at examples on www.askaboutmoney.com the 13k I was quoted was cheap! A lot of people being charged 16k per year etc

Are you sure it's only €12 per week and how long do you have to pay this for?
I was not aware that you could buy NSP's on long term payment plans.
