I would, except that it'd be yet another Strava leader board that I would fail to dominate as my missus would probably jump straight to the top of it. I'm not sure I could handle the sleepy disappointment.

I think the missus being top of the leaderboard is best case scenario. Be awful if you were at work and received an "uh-oh!" email.

You can tell her yourself, she's standing right behind you. What's that, is that a bat she is holding? If you have your bike helmet with you, this might be a good time to put it on.

Much respect for the Russians and their dashboard camera's! Amazing footage of that meteorite this morning. Not exactly capturing what they were intended for (dangerous driving and insurance claims) but some crazy stuff has been caught on video over there recently.

They use them for exactly what we see I think. Evidence in traffic accidents.

Procycling: You have said in the past, and your old coach Antoine Vayer says now, that there’s a physiological ceiling of 410 watts on the last climb of a mountain stage, but could things not have evolved?

20mins ago coming over harolds cross bridge towards terenure end a taxi starts edging over into the cycle lane with me in there so I gently tap the side as he had most of my lane taken over, he pulls down the window and shouts abuse at me but Ive my headphones on enjoying music(I dont normally do this), I just shouted back "sorry I cant hear you". anyway he goes straight on but drives at 35km/h in front of me, not sure what he was up to. I caught him again at kenilworth crossroads and gave him a sarcastic thumbs up.

what the hell was going thru his mind, do some of these guys actually believe the literally own all of the road?

I always expect the unexpected and noticed when he started to pull across so didnt feel in too much danger, all I was doing was just letting him know that its the cycle lane, he had plenty of room on the other side

I had a guy yesterday (another taxi driver as it happens) in a left turning lane just casually try to drive his car into my lane, while I was cycling (on the left of the right-turning lane) alongside his front wing. He was doing a very common thing along that stretch (Earlsfort Terrace, approaching Adelaide Road) of using the left-turning lane as a means of undertaking cars and buses in the right-turning lane. He didn't bother himself with using an indicator either, just put the head down and tried to barge on through as if I wasn't there and didn't matter.

So the answer to your question is yes, some of these people really do believe that the road is theirs and theirs alone, and to them everything else on the road is just a hindrance and an obstacle to be pushed aside. They are very screwed up.

Are any cyclists here familiar with Swords/Boroimhe cycle lanes? Are the unacceptable in any way? I know Rivervalleys are a mess, rubble, broken glass, random yaris :( etc. But boroimhes seem ok-just over the last while we've been sat in queues lately behind cyclists in the middle of the road, was wondering?

I never use a cycle lane I don't already know and trust, and doesn't have the proper signage. First time I'll check the design from afar - does it end suddenly? Does it run alongside a pedestrian walkway, from which it is separated by only a white line? Is it completely pointless? If I'm satisfied with those aspects, I'll use it next time and check out the surface. Otherwise I'll take full advantage of the fact that I'm no longer obliged to use any cycle lane and stick to the road... which may not be any better surfaced.

Sat in queues? Was the bike parked? As far as I can recall it's a continuous white line through boroimhe anyway.

I know coming from Boroimhe down Forest Road one just ends with no dished kerb, meaning you've to dismount or learn to bunny hop into traffic. As for Boroimhe itself, looking at Google maps, there's at least 5 nice junctions where you lose priority to a side road. I've never cycled through there (only driven a few times), but based on street view, I wouldn't use the paths.

When cycling into work I used the cycle at Boroimhe once in both directions.
They are ,in short, crap and dangerous. As said above there are several jucntions that you have to cut across and on the cycle lane coming from River Valley to airside it cuts across a bus stop and then leads back onto the road. Feel a hell of a lot safer on the road.

Thanks for clearing it up, just wanted to get a cyclists perspective as to whether they're ok or not. Good points. It's actually just one very slow cyclist ya can't get past at the same time every day, cycles a bit too far into the middle, did slow things down. I'm not going to mow past the chap or anything:)

    I can't believe I just had a helmet debate...in a ski shop.

WTF is wrong with the world? Ten years ago it was only racers and freestylers who wore them. Has the sport become more dangerous or have people become insufferably risk averse?

    Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.

I understand that spine protection is starting to be pushed now for skiing, and helmets even for cross-country skiing.

(Just what a friend told me. I know nothing about skiing.)

Sure if you fall, don't you just land on snow?

Anyone know what was going on around Enfield today? Told about 200 riders, lead and following cars, with moto marshalls.

The only thing that hurt me in cross country skiing was my wrists. I fell a lot.

My wife refuses to go skiing. Another woman crashed into her while skiing over a decade ago. This woman (other one, not my wife) was wearing a helmet. Her head collided with my wifes head resulting in severe concussions for my missus.

    Kids helmets are dangerous.

Worst fall I had snowboarding was toe-edge faceplant as I hit a patch of ice.

Smashed my nose, bright flash of light, thought I had broken it.

    Helmet wouldn't have helped.

Worst overall damage was to my knees. If you decide to go, get knee pads!

as dirk mentioned ice is the issue, pro sking is mostly done on ice conditions as snow isnt always their when they need it so water pumped on the hill giving icey conditions not nice to fall on.

I've had a few things sitting in my wishlist on CRC for ages now, but every few times I go in to view them the prices seem to have changed. They go up by about a fiver then down again. Is this some weird cookies trick or simply currency changes? Or none of the above.

Trees, gondola posts and other people are the problem. Last time I went skiing I wore a helmet, never had done so any other time previously. Maybe it's the combination of stories I've read of people who have died from head injuries from skiing accidents and the fact that I now have a kid that makes me less of a risk taker ?
